Welcome to Aldrect! Here you'll see vast, towering buildings of pure alabaster and marble, and the business of the townsfolk. The religion of the Holy Triumvirate was begun here, and in the center of the city is a grand fountain of the gods. (+2 Defense, +2 Fame)

Return to Aldrect, the Holy City

It had started even before he had bonded with Hark, but it had certainly gotten out of hand afterwards. Gods existing was a shock in and of itself, but then to learn that there was so much turmoil up in their realm... Gods turning against one another, and a strange infection of unknown origin attacking them mercilessly.

Their sanity disintegrated until they became so twisted that trying to rule humans sounded like a logical thing to do.

Such had been the whole reason for Hark's very existence. Faced with this situation, the Gods judged there was nothing they could do besides killing the infected Gods. There was no cure to the disease, and with their logic eradicated, their only solution had been to rid themselves of those corrupted Gods entirely.

But where would their powers go? Someone had to take over for their duties and their worshipers. Another God needed to be born; responsibilities had to be passed on.

Hark was a bottle. He was a vessel for those powers to sit and be protected until they became needed. He was a bottle, but he was also a hunter, a killer. Only upon killing a God could he then absorb their energy, harnessing their powers for himself. The powers weren't his to keep per se, but until his God told him otherwise, his current goal was to earn the powers and preserve them.

And during this festival, they expected such a corrupt God to appear.

Humans attributed so much value to such small, insignificant things and stories. Even if that receptionist had been right and the festival of the golden thread had nothing to do with the Triumvirate, the celebration was enough of an attraction for those Gods. Any kind of worshiping was seen was an opportunity to enslave the crowd for their own benefit.

The plan was to blend into the crowd in order to keep an eye out for such a threat in order to stop it in its tracks.

He watched the people enjoying the festival. How blissfully unaware they were. How they had no idea about the threats that loomed over them. How they got to enjoy themselves without bearing this weight.

It felt like Clovis was always the one bearing the weight of these things. Suddenly, his shoulders felt heavy. He looked away from the window, and he let out a loud sigh.

He pulled the curtains over the window and then headed out the door. They had to get to work.
