"Tor...ture....?" The word had escaped from her before she could catch it. Kree no longer owed her a question, but the short tale he had told had raised so many more in her mind... Who was this boy? Why was he tortured? What sort of torture had he been forced to endure? In what manner was the 'saintly one' not so holy? Why did the boy's father think him an abomination? And then of course there was the matter of the flicker in Kree's form... though the imp seemed to pay it no mind. Perhaps it was a natural occurrence... Whatever the case, it was quite easy to see that Kodai's mind bubbled with questions she desperately wanted to ask. However, she kept her mouth shut... for Kree's sake...

Noticing the uneasy mind of the human, Kree tilted his head some, staring back at the human and trying to brush back the piercing memories of so long ago, fiery nightmares that he'd been trying to run from for so long... Having endured it alone for the longest time, Kree was almost surprised at the weakness that still presented itself whenever such thoughts would surface...

"Isss a place of deceit and deaths..." was all that the imp said next, crossing his arms as if to look bored, though it was more for a feeling of safety than anything. His hazy body wavered in the cool night air of the cathedral, blending in against the backdrop as if he were bound to this place...

"...Indeed," nodded Kodai, hugging her legs close to her body and peering at Kree from over her knees. "I've heard that this place wasn't always like that, though... but... it's pretty hard to imagine..." She was beginning to feel sleepy again, but not in a life-threatening way. It had simply been almost a day of being awake for her... and she was tired. "Don't... uh... don't mind me if I... fall asleep," she mumbled, stretching out onto her side. The cathedral floor probably wasn't the best (or most comfortable) place to sleep, but she really didn't have much of a choice. "It's... been a long day..." Kodai sighed, closed her eyes -- and proceeded to immediately fall asleep. Long day indeed...

Kree looked on in mild wonder, at how this human could, despite the odd conversation, fall asleep in the presence of one who'd stolen her in the night from her wanderings in the hospital. Maybe... He should his head, it was impossible, and likely his master wouldn't take kindly to such a thing... And yet, the Lord Xai're had never truly harmed him, despite an occasional mishandling, and the imp knew Xai're was the only one he could trust his own life with... or... was he the only one?

Again, the small creature fought to put some reins on his rampant mind; it usually never went on like this, never on any missions or errands before. Maybe it was the human...

He watched the soft shoulders of the human rise and fall slowly in her sleep, watching the moonlight outline her body in patchwork splashed of cold light, watching the night pass on by... and wondering.

Could he really bring himself to do it? After all... she'd saved his life, could he offer her another chance?

Night passed into day, and the rays of the morning sun began to filter through the broken windows, making the atmosphere of the cathedral slightly less depressing than it had been. Of course, whether through some architectural anomaly or the dark nature of the place, the light didn't manage to penetrate very far... but it did enter far enough to make Kodai aware that it was no longer night. Slowly she awoke, though as soon as she realized that she was in a rather unfamiliar area she sat up with a start. The ache in her back and the sight of Kree reminded her of what had happened, however, and she relaxed a bit, sitting cross-legged before the imp.

"Ah... good morning..." Kodai nodded, still a bit groggy. "Guess I did manage to fall asleep on ya... Didn't cause any problems, did I?"

Sitting in a rounded circle of dense shadow, the imp sat there watching the human, his glowing eyes dimmer because of the few rays of light the managed to penetrate the cracks in the building's walls. Still relatively in the same place he'd been last night, Kree blinked, gazing at the waking human, her voice breaking the silence he'd sat through the entire night.

"Ah... No..." the imp said simply to the human. He'd been in thought all night and had decided something, something important... and something he'd never done on purpose... This slight anxiety of the mind caused his tail to wave slightly on the ground around him...

"Ah, that's good," replied Kodai, returning to a sitting position. Suddenly noticing the anxiety that seemed to surround the little imp like a cloud, she tilted her head lightly at him. "Is everything all right? You seem ...preoccupied." Certainly she wasn't going to say that he looked nervous -- that might insult him, and she didn't want to break any of the feeble trust they had between them at the moment. Maybe something had happened last night and he just didn't want to tell her about it... Ah, well. Only thing to do now was to sit and wait...

The shadows were cool, kept him focused and watchful. The imp suddenly lifted his head and glared at the human from his point in the darkness, eyes still bright despite the morning's intrusion. His tail curled like a poised serpent and his expression showed nothing. But he had come to a decision.

Should his master, the great and demented Lord Xai're, god of Death, get ahold of this human, he would surely torture her to no end, leaving her to beg for death. Surely the dragon would've noticed his precious human missing... And soon after, when the Kai dragon would come and his dark master would obtain his goal, ultimately killing the human in the end anyway and leave the dragon's already tortured soul in despair. While some of that plan sounded appealing, he bore no hatred for this human. In fact, somewhere deep inside, he felt he could possibly get along with her in another time and place, should the chance arise...

For the last time, the imp spoke. "Isss has been thinking on thingsss long into the nightssss...." he rasped, hunching over even more. "Iss has decided..." He couldn't turn back now, not while he still thought he could go through with it. Surely he would pay for this small show of weakness... "Iss deciding, human musssst go... away. Somewheresss away..."

With that the imp stood and strode unwillingly into the light of the morning, blades of light slashing across his blackened essence. He clapped his hands together in determination, blueish light dancing from his palms now, his eyes straining with the effort. There was a light sizzling sound as a portal, the size of a man, began to flow from the imp's hands and form before him.

"Go..."

Well now... this was a completely unexpected turn of events. So this was why he had looked so uneasy... It must have been a difficult decision to make, to go against the wishes of his master like this. And hopefully... it would not be a lethal one... "Ah... Thank you..." Kodai slowly pushed herself up off the floor and stepped tentatively towards the glowing portal. Before going through, however, she paused. "I... I hope that... you'll be... okay... when you return to your lord..." A longer pause. "And... and perhaps... we'll meet again... someday..." With a last glance back at the imp, she disappeared through the portal, one of the makeshift bandages from her hands fluttering down to the dusty floor of the cathedral...
