Cosma sighed a bit sadly. If even his own family couldn't really guess what Rexus was going to do, how should Gemas and her influence someone so fickle? She could only hope they managed to talk some sense into him.
Gemas seemed equally upset, though for different reasons. The Kuhna was the highest ranking subordinate of Death and he abused his powers like that? In his position? Gemas couldn't say he was understanding what the woman called Death was thinking or why she had even hired someone like Rexus, but maybe they were all rather strange in that world. This seemed to be especially true since the 'highest ranking subordinate' obviously didn't even have a clue on how souls were judged. And given his soul, this couldn't be that much different from Gemas' world. "You are a fool", he remarked rather coldly. "If your entire family has been condemned and you managed to be the one exception, that would actually make your light brighter instead of tarnishing it."
Cosma got a bit excited when she heard about Rexus' limit. "So you promised yourself to not summon her more than thrice and you already called her two times?" She looked at Gemas. "Gemas, can one more time really do that much damage? If it's really going to be the last time and he is willing to say goodbye for good?"
Gemas looked at his beloved and sighed. "I admit, I had thought he would have summoned her a lot more often already, given how he acted when we approached him at first. Three summonings in total will probably not do all too much permanent damage. As I described, it is continued abuse that makes souls paler."
"So you are okay with him doing it one more time?" Cosma smiled inwardly. This wasn't all that bad!
"I am certainly not alright with him breaking the rules again and-- Cosma, are you trying to distract me?" Gemas suddenly had Cosma nuzzling him.
"Oh come on, you said yourself it's not your world to begin with and one more time won't do that much damage, right? You know you'd feel it if he'd break his word, so let him~" Cosma entwined one of Gemas' tails with one of her own again. "Please, my love?"
"I-- I'm not--" Gemas shook his head and tried to escape from his beloved before she made him do something he would regret later. He concentrated on the visibly shocked Kuhna again. Well, if he was a high-ranking subordinate, there should be little damage in telling him about his alignment, even though he was still alive. He approached Rexus and bowed down to his ear. "Listen", he whispered so the two women wouldn't hear; he wouldn't break the law that much. "Cosma is correct. You are not completely tarnished. Far from being pure, too, though, but that was to be expected after breaking the boundaries of life and death. But if you would die right now, you would not go to hell or whatever place your world has reserved for dark sinners. Don't mess the rest of your life up."
Cosma hadn't heard what Gemas had said, but she had a good idea about what her beloved had revealed to the Kuhna. "Did you tell him about his soul?" she asked when Gemas stepped back.
Gemas sighed. "I told him about his current alignment, yes." He allowed Cosma to lean against him again. "My beloved, I should probably tell you about how all souls are pure, though. I judge by seeing them, yes, but it is more a judging of seeing how much the mortal is in touch with his or her own soul. Your soul is so radiant because you are in touch with it." He looked at Rexus. "Listen, Rexus. In my world, all mortals carry light and darkness in them. The light gives the them their soul and the darkness gives them their heart. And those with a soul not strong enough to resist the darkness the heart wants to pull them into are those who are weak. Mortals know envy and greed. They wish for wealth and luxury, but above all for power. Power over others. This is the legacy of the darkness and this is what moves their hearts. But they also know love and kindness. This is the legacy of the light and this is what moves their souls. There are no evil mortals in my world because souls can not be tainted. There are only weak ones with evil hearts. Your soul is pure, but the power you abuse draws you towards your dark heart. Do not give in. Remember your soul."
Cosma looked at Gemas. "I...did not know that."
Gemas laughed lightly. "This is not what normal mortals know, my dear. This is godly knowledge. In the end, it matters little if your soul would be able to get tainted or if it remains pure, but your heart draws you into darkness. The result would be the same. Yet it is comforting for many mortals to know that they possess a pure soul no matter what." He glanced at Rexus. "No matter how condemned a family. Your soul is pure, your heart is tainted. It is a fair struggle for everyone. Mortals choose their own fate, their own side of the balance. Blood hardly matters in this."
