Moving to his side and leaning against him, she sighed softly, then smiled. "I guess I should be happy with what I have, huh?" She leaned up and kissed his cheek softly, wrapping her arms around his waist, resting her head on his shoulder. "I love you, Valjean. Truly." She rested against him. "You know, I might just start calling you Val. See how many people call you Valerie." She grinned, then looked up towards the sky through the branches, the leaves shading her. "You know, there are small mercies, I can still see the sunlight through the leaves."

Valjean glanced down at her and smiled. He shifted her slightly, just enough to allow him to wrap his are protectively around her shoulder.

The idea of such a nickname amused him. "I don't think very many people will make that mistake," he said with a laugh, 'not with a face like this, anyway."

At least she seemed to be dealing with the idea of no direct sunlight fairly well. If she was willing to take the filtered light in consolation, he hoped she would eventually be content.

Looking up through the emerald leaves, Arwen leaned into him slightly, comforted by his presence. Quietly, she took his free hand in one of her own, and her eyes slowly turned back to Valjean. She then looked down and away from him, almost shyly. "Valjean, I want you to promise me something." She snuggled into his side slightly, sighing softly, smiling peacefully. "Never let me go. No matter how insane I get after the operation, no matter how much I change, please, be the one thing that will bring me back."
