These woods are nice for a casual walk or even if you have a more adventurous urge. Bubbling hot springs lie just around the bend, fruits can be found to suit every taste bud, and rumor has it there are talking Tali who can speak Lambastian! (+2 Precision)

If something had been stolen, then it was probably better to find out about it now. And it wasn't like he thought she would attack him, but he didn't want to be snapped at either, so Li decided it was in everyone's best interest if he just let her be.

At a loss for anything else to do, he kept a lookout for movement, but his night vision was woefully insufficient. It stood to reason, too, that the creature or thief or whatever it was had a great deal of skill in hiding.

It might have tailed them during the day too, when night vision didn't matter; in fact, considering how things had gone for them during their time in the range, he was increasingly sure that must have been the case. If the thief didn't want them to find it, they probably never will.

With that in mind, he cleared his throat. "Hello?" he called into the dark. Okay, it was a stupid idea, but it was an idea; and nothing better was occurring to him at the moment.

"We, um, we don't want to hurt you," he said. Mercury's words belied that, but he was hoping they would listen to him. If they were listening. Which they might not have been, but it was still worth a try. "We're not here to hurt your mountains either," he added, on the off chance that this mattered. The thief might have been from outside the range, having followed the two of them in, but maybe it lived here. Were they... just trying to heckle them, keep them away from something? But there were too many unknowns; everything at this point would be mere speculation.

Clearing his throat, he went on, trying not to sound nervous. This place probably wasn't haunted, but all this was pretty spooky, and it made him uneasy to be at the whims and mercy of something unknown. "We're just travelling through, we promise. If you want money, some food... We actually don't have much but we'll share what we have, if you come out and tell us what you want. Mercury just wants her brush back, you know, and there was some equipment..."

"Li, what are you doing?" Mercury, having sorted through their things, finally diverted her attention away from their bags to fix him with a questioning look. Her tone was distinctly disapproving, having heard the tail end of his statements. "Are you trying to negotiate with them? I'm not sharing my food with anyone," she declared, this last spoken loudly, addressed to whomever Li had been speaking to. "And if you have my brush, you can come out and fight me, you no-good piece of scum!"

"Mercury!" said Li, aghast. "Er, she didn't mean it! Hahaha, what a jokester! Isn't that right?" He moved to her side and began elbowing her insistently, but Mercury merely glared at him, making no move to retract her statement.

In fact, she was about to say something else, when something struck her against the back of the head. "Ow!" she said, wheeling around to hiss at her assailant... only to find that there was none. At her feet laid the offending object: her missing brush.
