These woods are nice for a casual walk or even if you have a more adventurous urge. Bubbling hot springs lie just around the bend, fruits can be found to suit every taste bud, and rumor has it there are talking Tali who can speak Lambastian! (+2 Precision)

Return to Roraldi Forests

Imagine Me and You [Hunt/Self]

"I will admit," a soft voice crooned in the darkness. "I am curious as to why you asked me to come along."

From the gloom of the forest, a pair of travelers emerged, an odd pair to be certain. One was an equine, tall and slender in stature. Her swirling coat and brilliant eyes stood out starkly against the dark of the shrubbery around her. Beside her, nose to the ground, was a darker form, wings clenched tightly against her side. The smaller form was covered in fur, and appeared, for all intents and purposes, to be a feathered dog.

The canine shrugged as well as any canine could, glancing briefly up at her companion. "I dunno," she admitted. "I guess because you know your way around the forest? And you aren't insane? And you don't actually get on my nerves."

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

"Insane?" the horse questioned, looking half amused and half concerned. "I surely do hope you don't associate with the insane on a regular basis. it sounds...exhausting."

The dog gave a bark of a laugh, head now lifted from the ground. "No, seriously, Delphi. This is why I brought you along. You're such a boring Bessie, and it makes things so much more fun."

Delphi jerked her head back slightly, hooves stuttering in surprise. "I beg your pardon, Holly, but I am not boring," she snorted indignantly. "I am perfectly normal."

"A perfectly normal wet blanket," Holly agreed with a bob of her head. "My jokes go right over your head."

Delphi still looked annoyed and vaguely offended. "Well, then I shall try to curb my 'wet blanket' tendencies. If only to make this less pleasant for you."

Holly didn't seem to mind as she trotted along in the dark, occasionally stopping to sniff about here and there. "Fine, do that then, Delphi. but you won't make our trip any more fun by doing it."

"What are we out here for anyway?" The equine demanded, pausing in her steps to take a look around. "Its dark and I can hardly see a thing. And for that matter, there isn't anything out here. Well, nothing we really would want to meet, anyway."

"I'm out here looking for something...Or, well, someone." Holly gave another shrug, her wings fluttering against her back. "I'm not sure if it's actually out here, but I'm gonna give it a shot. I mean, what's the worst that could happen?"

"We could die horribly, or be eaten by something, or fall into a pit, or get stuck in quick-sand or-"

"All right," Holly grouched, looking annoyed as her companion prattled on. "I get it. But it isn't as if Roraldi is all that dangerous. I mean, a lot of my kind live here, so why should I be afraid?

"Why indeed? You are very brave to come so far without an escort."

The quiet voice caused both travelers to pause in their tracks. Holly felt her fur stand on end, and Delphi's knees rattled softly as she gazed about. "What was that?" she demanded, as she swung her wide head around back and forth.

"More like 'who' was that," the voice cajoled, sounding amused. "You aren't very polite. I am certainly not a 'what.'"

"Well whoever you are," Holly barked, fur bristling. "Show yourself!"

"This is more excitement than I anticipated," Delphi admitted, sounding nervous. "I thought you said it was safe out here."

"I said it wasn't 'all that dangerous,'" Holly growled softly, looking around her for the source of the voice. "I never said it was 'safe.'"

"Well, it probably isn't safe," the voice said, sounding chipper. The two travelers stared hard as a pair of glowing yellow eyes materialized on the path before them, following by a smoky, purple body. The creature grinned, looking terrifying as it stared them down.

"Oh my!" the creature exclaimed, it's grin widening. "You look like you've seen a ghost! Tell me I'm not that scary looking."

Holly bristled, her hackles rising and her eyes narrowing. "You aren't," she snapped, taking a step forward. "You just surprised us is all!"

"Surprise, surprise!" the creature cajoled. "My, I didn't mean to do that. I was hoping you would be scared but...ah well. So tell me," it asked as it wound to and fro, moving forward like a hunting cat. "What are you two out here looking for, so deep in the dark, dark woods? And so very, very alone?"

Holly felt an unease around this creature. Like it was just toying with them. She doubted she'd have trouble defending herself (and Delphi would be just fine too) but still...not knowing what was coming next was unnerving. "I'm here looking for something," she replied warily. "And We're not alone. We have each other," she stated matter-of-factly. "So I suppose its a moot point." She peered warily at the creature as it watched them, tail flicking back and forth. "And what about you? What are you doing out here?"

"You're asking me?" the creature queried, sounding surprised. "I live here, of course. What better place to live? This forest is full of shadows and darkness and so many, many secrets." The twitch of her eyes as she spoke made Delphi wonder what the creature was hiding. What it spoke of secrets, did that mean there was something it was protecting? Maybe something it was trying to keep them from reaching? Curious, the equine gave a shake of her head, before speaking.

"Secrets, you say?" Delphi questioned, her voice low and careful. "What sort of secrets are you talking about?"

Now the creature seemed guarded, almost cautious as it regarded them with glimmering golden eyes. "Secrets belong to those who keep them," she replied haughtily, seemingly no longer enjoying toying with their fears. "They aren't secrets if you tell them."

"No, I imagine not," Delphi agreed, nodding slightly.

"If you aren't here to be of any particular use," the tali began pragmatically. "Then I think you should be on your way. Delphi and I need to get back to our search."

"Oh?" the cat creature replied, and there was a sharpening of interest in her eyes. "And what exactly are you looking for?"

Delphi opened her mouth to reply, but Holly shot her a look that had her snapping it shut. "Nothing," the Tali replied. "So be on your way."

"That just makes me even more curious," the creature admitted, a smirk curling over her dark mouth. "But if you insist, I'll gladly 'be on my way.'" There was the sound of faint laughter, before the creature disappeared, all but her curling smirk vanishing into thin air, before even that too dispersed with a wink.

Holly stared at the spot where the creature had been. She didn't quite trust that she was gone.

"Maybe we should go back."

Holly jerked her head up sharply, eyes narrowing on Delphi.
