Lu heard the small splash that came from nearby, and apparently so did the monster. It turned it's head in the direction. Lu could just barely make out the white flames through the mist. She almost gasped but was able to hold it down. She tried to think of a way to warn Silva, but thoughts of blood and death quickly came into her mind. She tried to stand up as quietly as she could. She realised that she couldn't walk with out limping, and that would make noise in the water. Besides, she still couldn't see the shore. She got onto her feet and stared up at the monster. It almost looked blind? If it is then they wouldn't be able to get out of the water without alerting it. She feels so hopeless now. She got an idea. She tried to hold herself up with her bad paw as she picked up a small stone and flung it as far as she could in the opposite direction. She heard a loud plop coming from somewhere in the mist. The monster was distracted for a minute and swam off in the direction of the noise. She took the chance to escape,"Run Silva!" She called out.

She flung another stone, this one bigger, into the mist. Luckily, the mist mad a sort of echo-y effect and the creature wouldn't be able to tell where the noise came from. Her stone mad a louder plop than the other one did and she hoped that it would distract the monster long enough for them to get to safety. She looked around for the shore, but still could not see through the mist. She decided to follow the water as it got shallower towards shore. She stumbled as fast as she could on her bad paw. Hopefully Silva had heard her and was already safe.

Fear rushed through Silva's body as he saw the shadow turn and stare in his direction.  'Bad idea!'  He wanted to turn and run but his body wouldn't allow it.  He was frozen stiff, eyes transfixed -unblinking- on the creature.

The sound of a loud splash made him jump.  Apparently it had gotten the monster's attention as well as it swam off in the direction of the noise.  Confused, Silva scanned the area around him, trying to decide what to do now.

Suddenly, he heard Lu's voice scream "Run!".  Run!?  He panicked and hopped to the right, looking back and forth between the shrouded water and the woods.  He heard another ker-plunk in the water.  He looked out and saw another shadow - this one smaller and struggling towards the shore.

"Lu!"  His eyes widened and he rushed close to where she was with his injured foot touching the ground ever so often for balance.  Ignoring the pain it cause, he plunged knee-deep into the water.

"This way quick!"  He cried, trying to direct her to safety.  He kept looking from the mist to Lu and back again, hoping the monster wouldn't find them.

Lu limped as fast as she could towards Silva and the shore. She could feel the water decrease and when her paws finally reached the stony shore she sat, exhausted, and nursed her injured paw. She also found a small scrape on her pad from a sharp rock that she must have stepped on. She licked the wound until the blood subsided and it stopped bleeding completely. What was that monster, and why is it here? This strange pond in the middle of the forest was so strange. The mist is warm, but the water is cold, and where are the springs? She fell onto her back and closed her eyes. She just wanted the stress and terror to melt away. She ignored the pain in her ankle as best she could, but it eventually took her. The pain and past events made her pass out. The world went black and so did her senses. She felt helpless again. She hates this feeling. The helplessness engulfs her and she surrenders to it. Nothing she can do now, nothing...

He scampered backwards, giving her enough room to haul herself out of the water.  As she tended to her wounds, Silva slouched then collapsed onto the ground himself and inspected his own injuries.  There was some swelling around his foot but nothing seemed serious or broken.  He sighed and looked at Lu.

'What!?'  Silva stared helplessly as Lu slowly began to lose grip on her consciousness.  He didn't want her to go out of it but at the same time he knew they both needed the rest.  And he would have simply allowed her to rest if it had not been for a strange growling that grew louder.  His fur bristled and he stood only to be greeted by a wave of pain and the same mysterious shadow out in the water.  It was slowly gliding towards them.  Had it heard them?  Or more importantly, could it see them?

He put faith in the mist that it would keep them hidden enough to be out of danger.  Oh come on! Give us a break...'  He placed his paw on Lu's shoulder and gently yet firmly shook her.  "Lu! Please get up!  It's back!"  He cried in a desperate attempt to awaken her.  He wasn't strong enough to handle his own body let alone hers as well!  

He did the only thing he could do at this point - face the enemy.  Standing between the unconscious Lu and the water's edge, he prepared for the worse with claws unsheathed and teeth bared.

Lu slightly came back to conciousness from the firm shake on her shoulder. She sat up and gasped as she saw Silva trying to face the monster. As it came out of the water and about to strike she pushed him out of the way. The creature bit the dirt instead of flesh as it was hoping for. It snaked back into the water and disappeared. She sat down as fury washed over her,"You fool, what were you thinking!" But Lu knew what he was thinking. He was trying to protect her. She feels so confused, she just wants to rip her fur out. The mist started to clear up and Lu's head started to get clearer. She could now see that there was a large pond in front of them. The monster inside must feed on wary and lost travelers. It would soon be back for them. The mist was so thick it's a wonder how they were ever able to find this.

Silva yelped as he was pushed aside.  All he saw was the flash of teeth and then mist.  Luckily he hadn't landed on his bad leg.  Once he was able to comprehend what happened he regained his composure and was assaulted by her words.

What else could he have done?  He wasn't just gonna sit by and watch her become fish food.  He stared at her with a hint of fear still in his eyes.  "I know I shouldn't have but..."  He just smiled, knowing he couldn't explain it.  "Thanks."  His eyes shone happily with obvious thankfulness.  

The mist began to grow thinner, giving them a better look at the lake.  The monster had vanished beneath the surface, leaving ripples in it's stead.  The tension and danger in the air settled much to Silva's pleasure.  

"I heard there were strange things here but I never imagined a lake monster..."  He chuckled nervously.  "Of all things to find."  He staggered away from the lake up out of it's reach - should it come back - and propped himself against a tree's base.  He breathed in deeply to try and calm his weary body.

"What a day, what a day."  He whispered to himself.

Lu let out a sigh and smiled also. She wanted to fall asleep right there and then, but she knew she couldn't. She wanted to get as far away from this lake as possible, even if that means goi8ng in the opposite direction of the springs. She decided to go around the lake. She got far enough away from the shore to feel safe, but close enough so that she could still see it. She limped, but not as bad as before. The pain is slowly subsiding from her ankle. Though she is exhausted Lu finds the strength to find a nice calm clearing where she can just curl up and fall asleep, and she did just that. Her fur swaying softly in the breeze she fell asleep into nothingness. She did not dream, or have nightmares. She just lie there, regaining her strength and calming her mind. If someone woke her up now they would feel her wrath.

Drifting into sleep himself, Silva slowly closed his eyes and let his body ease up completely against the tree.  His ears remained alert for any sounds of approaching creatures.  He wasn't at peace enough to fall asleep but his body thought otherwise and soon he had lost to his fatigue.

His leg still jerked at instances of pain.  Using his tails as pillows he stretched his leg over them gently.  Now he could focus on regaining his strength.  Soft purring could be heard and his flames glowed a ghostly light against the tree.

Lu's ear twitched at the sound of a bird. She could smell the mineral water from the springs and could almost tell that they were just behind her through the trees. She felt no need to go relax in the springs, for sleep is the only relaxation she needs right now. Her ankle had swollen and was sore but the sharp jolts of pain had disappeared. A strange place can seem like home easily if you are almost eaten by a lake monster and are completely exhausted. Hopefully that will never happen again. Lu thought about the travellers that had been keeping the creature alive before they arrived, what had happened to them. The creature must have eaten something, right? She is too exhausted to think, but can not fall asleep. She sits upright her eyes still closed. She'd soak her injured paw in the springs, that will help. She opens her eyes enough so that she can see. As she gets closer to the trees she notices some fallen leaves, but they couldn't have fallen, they're still green, and there are a lot of them in one place only. She finds a rock and tests it on the leaves, and nothing seems unnatural, so she walks on.

The moment her back leg touched the leaves she fell and was able to grab a protruding root. She's fully awake now, and scared to death. She looks down and almost feints. Large sharp wooden stakes were placed on the bottom on the hole, and what looks like dried blood in on them. Her grip slightly loosens on the root and she is able to let out a small yelp, but is soon choked by fear.

Just as he was beginning to doze off into a nice deep sleep, an all too familiar sound made him jerk awake.  "Not again!" He groaned and climbed to his feet.  His body, still wanting to relax, nearly gave out as he put weight on it.  

He was still groggy and stumbled forward before getting his blurry eyes to readjust.  He tested his foot.  Good - he could put some weight on it.  He trotted forward to where he had heard the cry.  Almost instantly, he could see the hole where she was.  

He ran up to the edge and poked his head in.  "What the heck!?"  He gasped as he saw the large wooden spears at the bottom of the pit.  He hopped to the side where the root was and leaned in to help.  He felt himself tipping in and quickly leaned back.  His leg wasn't strong enough to support his upper half.  

Searching the ground, he found a severed vine that looked sturdy to use.  Grabbing it with his teeth, he rushed back to the hole and flung the other end towards Lu.  "Try to grab it."  He grunted through clenched teeth.  'And I though I had bad luck!'  He told himself.  'This girl is freaking danger-pron!'

[life is like a peanut]

Donler was getting tired he had been flying for nearly a day now. He saw a forest down below so he decided to land there. He found a small little cave that he fit snuggly in. He got comfortable and slowly went to sleep. ((you guys dont really know me since I only joined today but good night =D))

Lu grabbed onto the vine with her claws, she fell back a little but rapped the vine around her good paw for a firm grip. She scrabbled at the dirt and rocks until she found a foot hold. She used some rocks hutting out from the walls to pull herself out of the hole. She fell onto the ground in the grass. She closed her eyes and started to breathe heavily. Who put this trap here. The person probably doesn't want people near the springs.

She wishes Boyce would come for her now. She doesn't care about the springs anymore, she just wants to be home. She curls up in a little ball as tight as she can. The horrors of the day were finally starting to melt in. The cliff, the monster, and now this hunting trap. She had come here for relaxation and all she got was more stress. She could feel sleep engulfing her and she did not resist. The blackness took her as her breathing slowed down and calmness took her mind

Once Lu had safely made it out, Silva allowed his body to fall with a thick thud.  He, like Lu, was ready to go home.  He scratched his still brown-stained fur with a free paw as it itched and let out a heavy, stress-filled sigh.  To think, all this happened only because he had moved away from the hot springs.  Wow.  Oh well, at least he was able to have some sort of excitement ... even if it did almost cost him his life.

He still wanted to find that hot spring again!  His body yearned for it!  He wasn't about to go home without taking a dip - not after all he had gone through.  However, he wasn't sure how much more his body could take.  Should anything more happen, he would go on without the springs.  

He slowly got up and looked at Lu.  She was out again.  He decided to keep an eye on her while she slept.  She seemed to have a knack for finding danger.  As she slept, Silva took his time filling up the hole with leaves, twigs, and dirt.  He didn't want any other unfortunate souls to meet their demise in such a place and in such a way.

As Lu slept she could feel her mouth dry out. She hadn't eaten or drunk in hours. Her tails stroked the grassy earth in her sleep. The smell of the springs filled her nose and she could almost feel the warm water soak into her fur. She steadily came back to conciousness. She could not sleep unless she quenched her thirst. She slowly sat up and looked ahead through the trees towards the springs. She calmed her self and trotted through the trees until she could see the warm waters.

The trees opened up into a small clearing where a nice, serene poll lay. She could see the warm mist rise off of the water. She dipped her paw in the water to make sure it is actually warm. She felt the water drench her paw and she wanted to flop down and sleep for days. She soaked her injured paw and she felt the soreness melt away. She found a small pool full of cold, clean water. She lapped at the pool to her hearts desire and when her thirst was quenched she went back to the spring and fell asleep with her tails soaking in the water.

"There."  Silva sighed as he pushed the remaining loose dirt into the hole.  It covered the spikes at least and that was good enough.  When he went to look back at Lu he let out a tired "Huh?".  She was gone again!  'This girl needs a tracking device glued to her.'  He thought with a tired laugh.  He caught a glimpse of her tails going behind a tree and sighed.  He followed slowly.  

A smiled spread across his face as a misty spring came into view.  He walked up to the edge and tested the water with his paw.  Warm.  His skin tingled and he walked in up to his chin.  "Finally."  He purred happily.  He quickly scrubbed his underbelly and legs clean of the mud and leaves.  The stress and fear melted into the water and he let his body be lifted by the tiny air bubbles.  

He was soon floating on the surface, carefree and happy.  He looked around the spring.  A small path was barely visible but was familiar.  This was the spring he started at.  And that the path he often used.  They were officially no longer lost.  With that in his mind he let the bubbling waters caress his tired body and sway him gently across the spring.
