With the talking done, Tapio sighed with relief. It had nothing really to do with whether he liked Hani or not; he just didn't like talking in general. Hopefully, Careen and Izotz would continue to do all the talking, while he could just stand there, just in case they absolutely needed his input on something. He probably wouldn't have to do any more talking, either way, considering how talkative the female Lavamancer was. He'd noticed her jumping and gasping with overflowing interest when Hani had mentioned coming from another Paragon tribe. It sounded like the two females would get along just fine.

With Hani adding that she would rather join Careen's ranks, the Lavamancer clapped her hands together excitedly, her tail joining on the excitement by twirling and twisting. "I completely agree to that!" the female interjected, looking every little bit excited about a new Paragon joining her ranks. Not only that, it was a seemingly pleasant female, too! She had nothing against the guys, really, but they were often not very talkative or open. It was always so much easier to connect with the females.

With the two having explained their faction and Careen even accepting Hani's decision before the leader could say anything, Izotz nodded. "Well, I do agree, fortunately," he replied as he raised an eyebrow at the brown Lavamancer, although it wasn't to scold her. "Since it seems like Careen has stated an interest in taking my job from me," he teased, far from sounding threatened or even serious about the assumption.

"Well, I just know you agree to everything, so I thought I'd save you the trouble," Careen teased back, replying as if she were speaking to one of her best friends, and not to the one who could basically decide her fate amongst the Hive. "That said, I'm so glad you'll be joining my ranks! I'm excited for you to start!" the Lavamancer added, this time turning to Hani and clasping her hands into her own again. "Speaking of that, did Izotz tell you who you'll be rooming with?" It couldn't be Careen herself, considering she would have known about it. Boo.

At the mention of that question, Izotz blinked. "I don't... think I've mentioned that yet," he admitted, grinning sheepishly. "To answer that question now, I decided to have Hani stay with Teofila while she gets the hang of things." Something Nyala had already mentioned to Hani, unbeknownst to Izotz. Still, it was a good thing to know and for the information to be confirmed by the leader himself.

Of course, that wasn't to say everyone agreed. Tapio, who had obviously been unwilling to speak up until this point, suddenly gasped and stared at Izotz with genuine disbelief. "You... You're putting her with Teofila?" he echoed, his voice now steady and louder, and not just an uncomfortable whisper. "Why? You're going to put this newcomer in danger if you do that!"

Hani herself was seemingly ready for the hand-clasping this time—and met Careen with the same level of enthusiasm as the Keeper commander showed to her. This was going to be so wonderful! Already she liked this dark Lavamancer and the other female’s enthusiasm towards her only doubled her own. It would be hard work, she was sure, but with a boss like this she was sure the jobs wouldn’t seem tasking at all. Like Tapio, Hani had also noted Careen’s joy at hearing about her tribe. “I hope you don’t keep me too busy, otherwise we’ll hardly get the opportunity to talk!” She teased lightly as Izotz moved to answer the question. The chatter between the two flowed so easily and without stuffiness that Hani was used to from home. Part of her began to grow the idea that she might never leave, if they would have her here. It was sure to beat a life wandering and hoping she might reunited with her siblings again.

“Ah, yes, Nyala had mentioned…” Tapio’s sudden interjection cut her off, the Fairy giving the once silent and timid male a wide eyed look as he reacted almost fearfully at Izotz and began questioning her safety. She looked first to Careen curiously, to judge if the other female happened to feel the same way, before turning her attention towards Izotz and releasing Careen’s hands. Hani took a few steps to put herself between the two males just a little better before looking to Tapio. “I’m sure Izotz would not have me placed there if it was unsafe for me.”

The once meek paragon’s strong reaction had dampened Hani’s mood slightly, but she remained determined to keep an open mind. Perhaps this other was just as quiet as he was—maybe more—and the others just didn’t understand her. Perhaps she had some birth defect that made others keep their distance. Or perhaps she was just a Grim—Hani had never met one but her father had used the species to get all the hatchlings to behave themselves for fear a Grim might sneak out of the darkness and gobble them up. Maybe there were like stories here and she was just one of those unlucky species. “I’m coming off an injury, yes, but I don’t believe I’ll be in danger. No one has offered hatefulness towards me yet, I’m sure it will be fine. Right?”

She turned towards Izotz with a small smile, hoping he would clear this whole thing up and let everything go back to rainbows and sunshine.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

Tapio's sudden reaction wasn't met with approval. Izotz didn't look fazed, whereas Careen looked a little displeased at the other Lavamancer's comment, sighing quietly.

Regardless of their reactions, Tapio didn't seem willing to drop the subject. Instead of addressing Hani's comments and questions, however, he just straight-up turned to Izotz to get some answers out of him. "There's no telling what Teofila could do to her! You'll get this Fairy singled out from the others by putting her with a Paragon like Teofila," he argued, and fairly powerfully at that, which was a complete change from his shyness from just a few minutes earlier.

Despite Tapio's words, Izotz shook his head and unlike the Lavamancer, turned to Hani. "I wouldn't put anyone here in a dangerous situation; especially not a Paragon with an injury," he assured the Fairy, nodding, his presence just a little different. Now that he had to prove the validity of his decision, his carefree behavior had given place to something that was more akin to authority. "Tapio, your assumptions are unfounded," he added, this time turning to the Lavamancer. "Hani will be safe with Teofila. She had done nothing to prove otherwise. She will not attack Hani."

"How do you know? Everyone knows she's still in leagues with Jezebel! They never approved of outsiders and there's no reason they'd sta—"

The younger Lavamancer was interrupted by a loud, powerful roar from the white Frost, something that made both Lavamancers jump — even Careen, whom did know Izotz much better than everyone else. "Just as I have said," Izotz answered, this time growling quietly towards Tapio, "Hani will be safe. You are assuming that Teofila will hurt her due to her lineage alone, and I will not let you invalidate her ability to be a good mentor." Taking a few steps forward, the Frost bent down slightly so that the two males would be standing nose to nose, with the leader positively displeased. "Tapio, as a Paragon who used to be one of Jezebel's top protégés, I would say that you have very little room to say such things," the Frost said quietly, although the quiet volume of his voice still carried a powerful tone to it.

That outburst was enough to put the Lavamancer in his place, whom simply shrunk a little and took a few steps backwards, head lowered. Tapio made a few noises that indicated displeasure, but he didn't dare to voice anything against the leader.

With the two males quarreling, Careen sighed and made her way to Hani to keep the female company... and to make sure she wouldn't end up running. "I'm sorry, this is my fault... Don't listen to what Tapio said." She sighed again, putting a hand on Hani's shoulder gently. "It's a long story. You won't be in any danger, really. Izotz probably told you... what kind of era we're coming back from. Teofila is our previous leader's firstborn, and many assume she is still in leagues with her mother because of it. Don't worry — they'll growl at each other for a bit, but it'll fine," she assured the Fairy, although she, too, looked a little taken aback by Izotz complete shift in personality.

Hani stood back, though rather it was because of the fact that the males were becoming rather heated or that she was just literally taken aback by Izotz shift in personality wasn't quite clear. But no matter the reasoning why, the Fairy did take a few steps back to let the leader do his job. It was unnerving to watch the formerly quiet male react in such a way, but she had to have faith in Izotz. He had offered her food, shelter, care, and kindness above and beyond his duty. She couldn't imagine him putting her with a dangerous roommate after taking the time to personally walk her around and introduce her to so many others.

As Careen stepped forward to intercept her, Hani simply glanced over her shoulder to the other female and smiled lightly. "Oh no, this is far from your fault." She said in a rather chipper voice considering what had just come to pass before her. "None of this has blame to it. I have heard some of the past this clan is coming from, yes. Don't worry, it doesn't dampen my spirits."

She turned back to face the two grumbling males and cleared her throat some so that all three might chance to pay attention to her. She was going to make it very clear that she was willing and ready to overcome whatever adversary came her way and she was certainly not going to turn tail and run on them. "I have no reason to think Izotz would put me in danger and I am fully expecting to have my work cut out for me as far as making friends here. But I accept that challenge gladly; it is such a rare opportunity that I would be a fool not to take every chance offered to me and make the best of it. I look forward to meeting Teofila, I'm sure she's lovely."

She was well aware it would likely do nothing to soothe the sore egos or to calm the now angered minds...but it was worth a try at least.

By the time Hani had bothered to address the two feuding males, Izotz had put Tapio back in his place, and the Lavamancer was keeping a low profile in front of the leader who wasn't all that happy. At Hani's words, the Lavamancer just glanced in her direction. For a Paragon who'd been so very quiet and even unwilling to speak just before, his eyes now spoke the opposite. Red-orange eyes filled with a peculiar hatred, together with a variety of different emotions that were far from being healthy or positive. With a quiet snort, the Lavamancer looked away. "Yeah... She sure is lovely," he growled under his breath before turning to leave; spreading his razor-bladed wings, the Lavamancer flapped them a few times before getting off and leaving the three to themselves.

"Tapio!" Careen called out, trying to keep the younger male in check, but Izotz simply swished his tail in her direction.

"Let him go," the Frost commanded quietly, using his tail to shush the brown Lavamancer as he simply watched the grey one fly away on his own. With a sigh, Izotz turned to the two females, and more so towards Hani. "I'm sorry," he spoke out, his calm demeanor seemingly already back to him, as if his mood was but a mask he could change at will. "Tapio can be judgmental. He was one of the privileged Paragon, and he still shares some of the tyrannic mindset from before. That's why I need to be harder on him, and the others like him."

He narrowed his eyes and then shook his head sadly. "Teofila was Jezebel's — our previous tyrannic leader — first daughter. Despite that, she was literally abandoned by her own mother, whom was more interested in other Paragon. Some of her own siblings were killed by her mother since she found them unworthy. Her one brother went missing, and her father quite literally died of a broken heart when his mate turned to insanity and part of his clutch was killed by that same mate," Izotz told, hoping that giving a better picture of the particular Paragon would help put Hani at ease, even if the Fairy didn't look all that insecure or fazed.

"Teofila doesn't have anything anymore. She's a little hard to befriend because she doesn't open up very quickly or even very easily; despite that, she's not dangerous, and she won't put you in any danger," the leader assured their new protégé, hoping that this short display of authority hadn't given Hani a bad idea of him. "But if you feel too nervous to try, then I wouldn't mind picking someone else." The last thing Izotz wanted was for Hani to have a bad or stressful time here because of the rumors about her den-mate.

Hani watched Tapio head off in defeat with a saddened look on her face, but she let him go. She was still a newcomer here and it was best not to get into their affairs...or try and calm nerves after a reprimand from the leader. When she turned back to Izotz she gave a slight nod of her head. "There's no need to apologize, you are doing your job." She answered him honestly. She was not so mystified by the way things worked here by comparison to her birth clan to not think that sometimes the laws would need reinforced. And the idea that a leader would allow someone to overshadow his judgement before company was unheard of besides.

But his words did give her a better idea of the new challenges she could expect to face. She could easily be put right into league with Teofila if the others so chose and be shunned. And, as Tapio had shown, for some of them it would be as easy as turning their heads or flapping their wings. "No, I would still like her to be my den-mate for the time being." Hani said, surprising even herself a little. She was already facing an uphill battle to win over affections from most of the others...now she could expect to double that.

"But perhaps all she needs is someone without tainted ideas of her lineage. While the rule of her mother does not sound anything like how a clan should be run, I was not here to witness it first hand. Maybe that will be enough to bring her out of her shell." She gave a slightly brighter smile and even a little laugh. "Perhaps we can overcome being outcasts together." She hoped her joking tone was enough to convey that she didn't truly see herself as an outcast, but honest enough to make it clear that she understood the weigh of her undertaking.

"That only leaves one matter, I believe. Careen, when and where do I need to report for my first job?" She was going to waste no time in placing herself out there for ridicule or approval; if she hid away and shyly dances around everyone they would never grow to accept her. It was far from her nature besides that, but there was reason for that logic. Putting her best foot forward eagerly and as soon as possible would be the best way to begin showing the Hive her gratitude and perhaps even carving out a place for herself among them.

Izotz was relieved to see that Hani's spirits hadn't drooped, despite the event that had unfolded and the words that had been said. Despite that and even the Fairy's more light-hearted tone, the Frost couldn't really find it in him to reciprocate the feeling.

"If you feel comfortable," he found the strength to say, to Hani's approval of trying to stay with Teofila despite the prejudices she might face from the others. "Maybe you're right," he also added, although his answers were clearly straightforward, and he didn't look particularly attentive anymore. He looked grimmer, as well as perplexed and perhaps a little lost in thought.

He shook his head a few moments later, even if the movement really didn't help clearing his head any. "We can see how it goes. Let me know if something happens or if you want me to put you with someone else," he managed to say, giving an answer with a little more substance this time around.

Careen had remained quiet, finding it in her best interest to not interject. Her spirit had drooped just a little, if only because she knew exactly why Izotz was now so preoccupied and lost in thought. However, despite her knowing the source of it, she, too, was at a loss, and she was helpless to make the problem any better for Izotz, or even for herself. It was fairly disheartening, if she had to be honest.

Unlike Izotz, Careen found herself quickly returning to her usual personality as Hani spoke directly to her, and the Lavamancer found herself smiling sheepishly. "Oh, well... I guess today's rounds have already started, and you just started getting better." She paused and looked around, a finger to her chin thoughtfully. "Off the top of my head, I don't know where I would place you right away..." she admitted quietly, turning around this way and that. "Maybe not tomorrow, but the day after?" Careen suggested, turning back to Hani and tilting her head. "You just started getting your injuries healed, so I don't really want to push you, either. That should give you time to meet Teofila and to get used to the Hive, too." A smile to Hani, and then the Lavamancer turned to Izotz. "Does that sound okay?" she inquired, not particularly interested in making decisions that would go against Izotz's blessing on the matter.

Despite someone calling out to him, Izotz was simply staring off into space, eyes narrowed and looking clearly perplexed. He was just staring away at something in the distance, thinking about countless things that just kept bouncing back and forth in his mind.

Seeing that he wasn't answering, Careen gave Izotz a few more seconds before the female shook him a little. "Izotz," she called out, a little louder and sterner than she usually would.

Being literally shaken out of it, Izotz blinking and even jumped a little. "What?" the Frost asked, genuinely confused as to why Careen was speaking to him. "Sure, that's fine," he replied without asking what she was asking or why she was talking to him. He genuinely hadn't heard, but he could only imagine that it was something reasonable... whatever it is the Lavamancer had said.

Hani gave an assertive nod and a bright smile—as bright as she could muster given all that she had just heard. “I’m very sure, and I promise you will be the first to know if something feels amiss. Well, let me correct that. Perhaps not first, as I don’t expect you to be at my beck and call over every little matter. But you get the idea, I hope.” She added with a little bit of a laugh. She was not going to let these new revelations keep her down. And even if they were true…how could she possibly blame Izotz?

Here she was a stranger to his clan that he was sworn to protect and defend. He had placed her with what he felt was the best choice—another outsider. It was only natural and he had been following his best instincts to keep his clan safe. She couldn’t see that as anything malice towards her personally.

At Careen’s voice taking over, Hani focused back on her new task master with a smile. “No, of course.  Perhaps just some gathering for Nyala or branch patrol at first until I am healed up. I’m sure I could entertain the hatchlings with some stories from my birthclan as well if that’s needed. I will lend a claw to whatever task needs done to the best of my abilities without pushing myself too hard.”

Finally she too looked back to Izotz, waiting for his answer on the cue from Careen. He did seem very distant now, not the proud leader she had met earlier that day. Perhaps Tapio had shaken him a bit too much. She hoped to see the male again soon and try to put his mind at ease. “Splendid, then two days’ time.” She said and gave Careen a winning smile.

That only left one final thing with her place in the clan found…meeting her den-mate. “Should we go and find Teofila then, or are there others you had in mind for me to meet with first?” She asked Iztoz as she took a few steps forward to stand directly in his line of vision to help him focus on what she was asking him…since he seemed to be battling with larger demons than just having his listening ears on.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. At Hani's suggestions, Careen's eyes lit up a little and the Lavamancer smiled excitedly. "Oh... Oh, you do get me thinking," the Lavamancer squealed quietly, putting a claw to her chin. "The hatchlings would love that for sure... Well, Nyala might not be so good, but maybe some of the others... Yes," the Lavamancer said, talking to herself by that particular point. If anything, Hani had already contributed by trying to put herself out there into something to do. "I like that, I like that a lot," Careen piped up a few seconds later, turning back to Hani with a bright and excited smile. "I'll make sure to try to put those suggestions to good use. The hatchlings have been really restless recently. Ah, there's so many possibilities now!"

If Careen had been paying attention to the Fairy, the same couldn't be said for Izotz. Shortly after answering, his face had turned grim again, the Frost completely lost in thought. It just wasn't turning out to be a good day right now, for a multitude of reasons.

When Hani positioned herself in his line of vision, however, the Frost eventually snapped out of it. It took quite a few seconds for the white Paragon to register the words that had been spoken to him, but he did eventually face down to look at the Fairy. "Oh," he answered initially, blinking and trying to decode what Hani had really asked of him. "Uh," came the second reply, the leader looking a little taken aback. "Ah, well. I believe Teofila is probably on duty right now, so it'll probably have to wait until this evening," Izotz finally answered, although it followed by a short pause. "Someone else to meet? Ah..." That was probably the best thing to do. Right now, the Frost wasn't having a good day, and obviously that didn't give him a very good image in front of a clan he had to keep together.

Looking around, the Frost tried to find a Paragon he could rely on. Lady luck was generous to Izotz as he spotted a perfect Paragon for the job. "Ah! Yes," he exclaimed as he got a good Paragon in his line of sight. Taking a few steps away from Careen and Hani, the Frost aimed towards a small group of Paragon all huddled together. "Sanjiv!" he called out towards the group, and from which one male seemed to react to the name.

The male in question turned back to his group to speak to one of the females before turning around and heading towards his leader.

Image

The one who had answered to the name Sanjiv reached the three Paragon quickly, stopping in front of Izotz as he tilted his head a little. "Hi, Izotz. Do you need something?"

Taking a few steps backwards back towards Careen and Hani, Izotz started introducing the new figure. "Yes, if you don't mind," Izotz started with, a small smile across his face, although it looked forced if anyone dared to take a look at him. "Sanjiv, this is Hani. She's the Paragon Dunstan rescued from the thunderstorm a few days ago, and who will be staying with us for a while. Hani, this is Sanjiv, one out scouts."

Being introduced to a Paragon he'd never seen before had the Carapace tilting his head with curiosity, although he was far from looking or sounding malicious. "Great. It's nice to meet you," Sanjiv answered with a smile and a friendly tone.

With the introductions over, Izotz turned to Hani more personally. "Sorry to cut it so short, but I have some things to take care of. Sanjiv here will finish the tour and show you around the dens and the other areas you need to know," the Frost apologized and explained, looking back at Sanjiv to let the Paragon know what he had to do. "I'm sorry about the outburst earlier, again. If there's any problem, you can always let me or Careen know, since you'll be working with her," he offered as he gave a slight bow to the group. "I'll be seeing you later," he continued as he turned around and started making his way away to take care of the things he had to do. He was the leader, after all: busy busy, always busy.

"Oh, I better go back to work too. I forgot I was also on duty right now," Careen piped up after Izotz, smiling sheepishly at the two. "But Sanjiv is experienced, so you'll be just fine!" she encouraged Hani, taking a hand and patting it. "I'll be seeing you in about two days, and then I can assign you some tasks. I'll be seeing you guys!" the Lavamancer finished as she gave a small wave and returned to her duty, heading for the wall of the mountain and scaling it quickly to continue expecting it.

Suddenly left with only the Fairy, Sanjiv blinked at this sudden job he'd been given. "Some Paragon sure are fast to get away," he commented in passing, though his voice meant by harm by the comment. "Well, that said," he continued, turning to Hani personally. "I guess we'll be hanging out for a little bit. So... what has Izotz shown you, exactly?" he asked, smiling a little sheepishly. "I'm afraid you'll need to give me a little rundown so I don't show you everything twice."

Careen’s glee at her suggestions made Hani feel better instantly. She looked forward to the day she would begin working in the clan and repaying the debt she owed them for their kindness. It wouldn’t be easy, but she was sure once she was out in public daily things would turn out just fine. Careen seemed to think so anyway—she was all too eager to try and help. Her enthusiasm might just be contagious around here. Though with Izotz finally focused for the moment, Hani smiled at him. “Oh, yes. I didn’t happen to think of that.”

When he called to a different paragon, Hani was instantly curious about the Carapace that walked towards them. She had never met such a paragon—in either species or wings. She tilted her head as well and took a rather bold few steps forward to get a better look at the regal red and gold male before her now. Izotz gave the introduction as he had many times before and Hani gave a little dip of her snout. “Pleasure to meet you as well!” She answered brightly; still openly perplexed by his appearance.  When Izotz announced he was going to return to his duties, however, Hani snapped out of it and offered a slightly sad smile.

“No, of course. I’m sure you have many things to attend to; I thank you so very much for taking the time you did to begin my tour of the Hive.” Hani said, wondering momentarily if there should be a physical gesture such as a pat or bow to accompany that but decided against such a show. When Careen announced the same thing Hani blinked with surprise before laughing.

“I had already forgotten that we interrupted you from your job! I will be seeing you again very soon!” She quickly patted Careen’s hand in return before letting the other female go. And then there were two. She turned to the new male with a bright smile and laughed a little at his comment. “I think nothing of it, I know how busy clan life can get. Besides, it must be a bore to have to drag a newcomer around all day. I’m sure you’ll want a break from me in a few hours time as well.” She said with a wink and grin.

“Hmm, let me see. I have gotten an overview from the plateau outside Izotz den, introduced to the hatchlings in the nursery, briefly brought through to where I assume Galo trains often and here. Oh, and of course, I’m very well versed in the location of the healer’s den.” She added playfully. “Though if we do happen to backtrack, I will do my best to act surprised and deeply interested.”

With Izotz and Careen leaving, Sanjiv waited patiently for Hani to say her goodbyes for now. While he woud've tried to think of a good route to show Hani, he couldn't quite do that yet since Izotz had started the tour. Which also had the Carapace wondering why his leader hasn't just finished the task to begin with. Maybe he really had some really important leader business to take care of.

By the time Hani turned back to him, Sanjiv was sitting down and waiting patiently and quietly. "Hah, no, it's okay," the Carapace assured the Fairy with respect to the task being bore. "My life is honestly hectic enough that I enjoy being able to do something slow every once in a while." With a mate who was the fastest flyer around, it was hard to do anything "slow" or "relaxing". It was a welcomed change of pace when he got to do something different that didn't involve him having to keep up with someone faster than him.

With that said, he listened carefully to Hani's summary of her day so far, so he wouldn't end up showing her the same things a second time. Not only would it be a waste of time, but it would probably bore the Fairy and also bother the Paragon around. Despite that, he did laugh at her last comment. "They say practice makes perfect, after all," he answered as he started getting up so they could get moving. He shook himself a little to get rid of the dust, his wings doing the same by vibrating slightly behind him. Unlike all the other Paragon that had solid wings, Sanjiv's seemed to be real insect wings, with a soft translucent appearance and reflecting the sunlight in soft rainbows.

"Okay," he mused mostly to himself as he turned around and took a look at the Hive itself. "So you know where the Nursery, the Healer's Den, and the Leader's Den are, and you know what kind of tasks we do. So that leaves the more technical things like the food storage and the water hole." Done with giving himself some out-loud instructions, Sanjiv turned back to Hani. "So, the things I have left to show you are the usual places where you'll find yourself going to every day. There's the dens, the food storage, the water hole, and the Advisor's Den," he listed, tapping a new finger with a claw every time he listed a new location. "If we still have some time after all that, I could always show you around where we usually hunt. Do you want to check anything in particular from what I listed?" Some Paragon usually just guided the newbie around however they wanted, but Sanjiv sometimes let the other Paragon decide which area they wanted to check out first.

Hani laughed a little at his retort, happy that he hadn’t taken it the wrong way. She was about to say something, but as he and his wings shook off she found herself quite perplexed again. The way they glistened and shimmered with a rainbow of colors…and yet they looked so fragile on such a big male. “Can you fly with them?” She asked out of the blue, transfixed on the wings on his back.

Then she snapped out of her trance with a swift shake of her head. “Forgive me if that was a rude question…but I have never seen another with wings like that. They are fascinating.” Hey, he might as well know why she was staring instead of just dealing with her stealing glances at them every time the sun hit them at a different angle. Better to get all childish wonderment out of the way and proceed with the day. “Most of my birthclan possessed the wings I have—our ancestors supposedly learned how to manipulate the small pearls at the hinges to better tempt fish closer to us without having to give extra chase.” She explained. It was rare and often times sought after in her old clan to have a different wing type, such as her sister Kahewai had had. But those few were often used more as trophies; it was the normal Ecpliptic winged paragon that had the most worth to them for hunting purposes.

But now she was far off topic and rambling like a silly little hatchling. Course of action, right, that was why she was here. A tour of what would be her home into the near future at least. “Ah, right, the ever important itinerary.” She laughed before quieting herself to think about things. In the same fashion, she weighed the options aloud to help Sanjiv map out their plans. “Well, let me see. I am already scheduled to meet my new denamte this evening once the shifts change, so perhaps that would be a more appropriate last stop. The watering hole and the food store are both equally important areas to know about—does this place have a swimming hole, by the way? I would hate to swim where everyone else drinks. – Oh! But the Advisors den sounds important as well. Maybe we should begin there; the Advisor is always a good paragon to be familiar with.”

Of course, the hunting area would be good to know as well, but she wasn’t quite sure how useful she might be on a ground hunt when she was mostly used to fishing. But perhaps she could learn, or be a diversion to help steer prey towards the real hunters. They often did it with schools of fish, at least on the ground the animals only had the cardinal directions to run in and not the options of up or down.  “Yes, that sounds about right if it’s a schedule you’re fine with.”

When Hani pointed out the wings, Sanjiv looked over his shoulder at the aforementioned wings. Ah, yes, the wings that got the attention of everybody here. He was known all over the Hive for these special wings which could, in fact, grant him flight, against all appearance. That would certainly make for a good discussion as they made their way around the Hive, though, considering the Carapace now had his own curiosity sparked by the fact Hani came from a different tribe.

But first, the schedule for the rest of the tour. Considering Hani knew where Nyala's den was, the male was surprised nobody had bothered to introduce her to the Advisor's Den, which was just a little ways away from Nyala's; not to mention she was the daughter of that said advisor Paragon! But apparently no one had really thought about showing the Fairy. "That sounds good to me," Sanjiv answered with a nod as he started turning around towards their first destination. "We have to go all the way to the back and towards the forest. It's actually right next to Nyala's den," he mapped out as he started making his way there, his wings flickering with different colors as they continued to catch on to the sunlight.

"To answer your question," the Carapace started as they made their way towards their destination, "yes, I can fly with them," he answered with respect to his wings being capable of supporting him, and just to show it off, he flapped his wings just enough to let himself glide for a little bit. If anything, they flapped differently considering they vibrated the same way they did for a real insect, only this time they were attached to a Paragon. "And trust me they've had plenty of practice considering I have to race the faster flyer we have daily," he added as he let himself land smoothly on the ground. "There's still not a lot of Paragon here who had these, and they're actually my personal... 'staple', I guess you could say. So I've gotten plenty used to staring," Sanjiv explained as he laughed a little about the staring. If any Paragon knew about him here, they knew the wings more than the Paragon who had them.

"If my wings are fascinating, I have to say your history is just as much," he added afterwards, in reference to her coming from another clan. "The Hive isn't very familiar with clans outside of itself, so it's always surprise to hear that. We know there's other clans out there, since we do have two Paragon who travelled and are traveling. Well, one of them is older now, so he doesn't travel anymore, but he used to when he was younger. He makes maps of the areas he's visited now. As for the other, he's actually my mate's brother. He thought the lifestyle here was a little too redundant and boring, so he went off on his own to explore beyond our territory," he explained, giving a brief explanation of what they did know about other clans. "So, while we do know there's other clans out there, we've never interacted with them before. I'd heard about Dunstan finding a Paragon during that thunderstorm, but I would've expected you to be a wild Paragon, not one from another clan."

Hani nodded and smiled. “That sounds fine, it might give us a chance to pass something else important along the way. But a better mental map of this place is something I won’t be turning down anytime soon.” She assured him, despite the plan sounding a little like backtracking. It would give her time to reach out and potentially impress yet another member of the Hive—and friends were something she could always use.

A sort of childish glee filled her heart when he went to answer about his wings and she watched his glide with admiring fixation. The sheer mechanics of them was fascinating and the fact that such fragile looking things could support a fully-grown male in flight? Mind-blowing. She raised up just enough to give her claws a little clap as he came back to a landing, thrilled at both the display and the fact that he didn’t think her rude to bring them up.

On the subject of her history and the fact that they had so few travelers, Hani offered a smile. “Well, as I’ve told Izotz, it wasn’t exactly my intention to be here. I am from a sea-fairing clan and to be recognized by the clan as an adult we must all pass a rite of passage. My brother, sister and I were sent out at the same time, but we were separated by a hurricane. I am not sure where either of them are, but I stayed here to try and find them. That’s what I was doing when I got caught up in the thunderstorm…though I’m sure it’s hopeless at this point. We were separated so long ago when we were just barely old enough not to be called hatchlings anymore.” She explained. “From what I have seen so far, our clans have a lot of similarities, though Izotz is certainly much more understanding and kind than my father was. He was the only male with any mating rights...though our leaders only last a very short time before someone younger and stronger overpowers them. It is very refreshing to be in a clan where it seems like there is so much more freedom to live a life you wish.”

She stretched her good wing slightly, looking to the still healing one with a bit of a frown. “That’s why I asked about a possible swimming hole. I’m much more used to the water, I’m sure if I could get back to the practice of swimming it would be a gentler way to help strengthen my wing back up. Less harsh than flying, anyway.” It had probably sounded strange of her to ask for a swimming location before, but hopefully now Sanjiv was feeling a little more enlightened.

But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

In a weird twist, Hani's story was actually somewhat similar to Sanjiv's. Where Hani was born and raised in a different clan and had ended up in a completely different one due to circumstances, Sanjiv's egg had been laid in a different clan. In some sense, the two came from a slightly similar story. "I think you'll get along with our Paragon that looks over the water hole," the Carapace piped up once Hani's story was over. "That's another Paragon that wants to swim." And the other thing was that said Paragon liked to swim in the water hole. Of course, the water got purified with that Paragon's powers afterwards, making the water as fresh as if it had just rained down, but it was still gross if one bothered to really think about the fact a Paragon liked to swim in the water you drank. "Aside from our water hole, though, I don't think we have anything very water-oriented. We do have a lake a little ways away, but it's a long way by foot, unless you can actually run all the way there." Which was, in fact, possible, since the Paragon part of the Ground Runners, one of the sub-classes here, could actually run all the way there.

"Sorry to hear about your siblings and your clan, though. I can sort of understand where you come from, since it's somewhat similar for me. My egg was laid in another clan, but my egg was stolen from it, along with a whole bunch of others. I grew up with no parents, really, although there's one Voidbringer that pretty much filled in for my mom." He'd never had a father figure, although he could think of a few male Paragon that fit the bill well enough.

"It's crazy, though, because it sounds like you come from a completely different kind of lifestyle. We don't have rites of passage here. Usually once you get big enough to start doing tasks around, you get assigned a Paragon to help you: pretty much what I'm doing right now with you. You have to show them around the hunting grounds, and even the food and water sometimes. Sometimes the parents end up doing the teaching, but in some cases another Paragon has to be assigned to you. And as for mating right... well, anyone can mate, anytime, really," he explained, with a small timid grin when it came to the last topic. "And we do have a mating season, too. Izotz doesn't even have any hatchlings of his own, so mating's pretty normal around here." So to hear that her leader was the only one with mating rights? That was pretty crazy and upside-down to him, that was for sure.

"Glad to hear you seem to like it, though. Izotz is really lenient, so it's refreshing even for the Hive too." Sanjiv hadn't been there for what had been the darkest times of the Hive: he'd been born a while after that. Still, he'd heard about it and how Izotz was the complete opposite of the old leader. Just imagining an opposite of Izotz in the worse possible extremes was a pretty terrifying image. "If you need any help, though, you can ask around. There's a bunch of Paragon around that won't mind helping you out."
