"Have you...not seen your face?" Kiru asked incredulously. Kia frowned. "No? Why? What's wrong with my-" she didn't even finish before it dawned on her. She glanced down at her bloody hands and groaned. She'd probably been touching her face without realizing it when she was dealing with Monday.

Slipping past the boy, she beelined for the water. She could hear him stumbling to keep up behind her. "So, you are okay, right?" he asked fretfully.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

This could be perfection, or venom dripping in your mouth

Singing like a Siren, love me while your wrists are bound

"I'm fine, Kiru. Monday almost killed himself," Kia told him dismissively. There was silence for a moment. She found the shoreline just as he spoke up again. "I don't think Monday can die," he commented.

Kia rolled her eyes. Like, obviously not, but at least Kiru didn't sound so panicked. He knew perfectly well the kind of stuff Monday frequently went through. It was part of the reason they were such good friends - Kiru's curse hurt all kinds of people, and Monday always survived the dumb situations he wound up in. They were a perfect pair.

Mama Maria had said she shouldn't comment on Kiru's 'curse' since it wasn't actually true, the boy was just unfortunate. Kia didn't give a flying pig's ass whether it was true or not, everyone said Kiru had a curse, including Kiru himself, so what did it matter? He never seemed to be terribly bothered about it anyway.

Wait a minute.

She had started to put her hands in the water, but looked back up at Kiru, who was watching her. "I don't think this has anything to do with your curse," she commented slowly. It was pretty obvious, if you asked her, but her suspicions were correct, as Kiru's face brightened a little in response.

He wasn't even anywhere near Chocky! It was the mist's fault," Kia added pointedly, but that didn't seem to help any. Kiru frowned again. "Well, the mist might be my fault," he said.

Kia raised an eyebrow, blood momentarily forgotten. "Wait, you know what it is?" she asked incredulously. Why didn't he say something when they all met up in the first place? Kiru looked a little sheepish. "Well, no. But it seems to be dangerous, so it could totally be because of me," he replied.

Kia rolled her eyes exaggeratedly. "Are you an idiot?" she asked rhetorically. Kiru looked mildly offended, but mostly surprised. If he didn't expect that kind of response from Kia, he didn't know her very well.

"I heard from Mama Maria that this mist is all over Evelon. Your curse doesn't reach all over Evelon, does it?" she asked slowly, as if explaining to a small child. Kiru looked a little embarrassed, a blush rising on his cheeks. "Well...no," he admitted.
