Aldrect was the best place to go to find a Demon. The Demons claimed that city was the last safe place the Seraphim had, and as such was their home base. On that assumption the Demons had set up a strong force in the city. Although it seemed they were there mostly for show, they were there, and they were being annoying as always. Nowadays the city felt empty because Demons were no longer walking the streets.

It was a strange day, that first dawn when the mist had appeared, when a Seraph could walk the streets of Aldrect without being hassled by a Demon. The mist had been worrying enough, but the absence of Demons only made that worry worsen. Perhaps the Demons were allergic to it in some way? The testing they had been able to do on the mist indicated otherwise. Unfortunately, the substance was less than cooperative when it came to anyone looking too closely at it.

Perhaps the Demons deemed he mist a lost cause and decided to hole up until the stuff dissipated. That was assuming that the mist would ever go away. Chances were not entirely tilted one way or another. Just as many people felt the mist was a permanent installment of Evelon than those that didn’t. The Seraphim had not decided whether this mist was a hindrance or not. That it would be permanent was up in the air, but many hoped it would go away. They were used to Evelon. It was more a home to them than their own realm, and their own realm had its own mist that constantly covered the ground. The mist they knew did not rise very far off the ground, it was dense and benign and something they were used to.

The thought of Evelon having something of the same was a bit disheartening. It was novel to see the ground. To know what one was stepping on, and to know when to shift movement to avoid stepping on something that wasn’t ground. Their own world did not have much ground cover, at least not in the same way that Evelon did, and so it was fine to step where ever with no regard for what one might be stepping on.

Plants grew taller, and animals were also made to have stilt-like legs. The creatures in their realm looked natural to them but would be quite alien and perhaps indescribable to the people on Evelon. Evelon’s own species of foliage and animal would detriment to this new mist. They would have to change rapidly to accommodate the obscured ground, and many wonderful things would end up becoming non-existent. That was to the extent of the knowledge the Seraphim had on the substance.
