“Ah, you like jerky, too? People make it for me. If we are becoming friends, I shall get you many pieces.”

Sometimes creatures liked to be spoken to, but sometimes it also scared them off. She was fairly certain by now that if the creature was easily spooked, it would have left already. Though she was still unsure why it was running away so fast when they first met. It seemed like it was a relatively gentle, calm creature.

Maybe the creature was very intelligent, she thought. That's why it wasn't as afraid of her. That only made the mystery of what it was running away from more enticing and slightly more scary.

Kyrx really wanted to study the creature more, but she thought it might bolt off at any moment. Then it would be gone forever. She had many notes and sketches about rare creatures she had only seen once, and they felt so incomplete. If only she could figure out how to bring the creature with her for further study…

She reached into her bag to get more of the jerky she had in there. It was running low, but she was happy to give as much of it out as she could before the creature left for good. While she was rooting around in her bag, she noticed something. A rope she had been carrying with her for ages.

She had little use for a rope with her excellent climbing and jumping skills, but she always carried it just in case. She wondered if she could use it to capture the creature. She hated the idea of just tying it up (and remembered that it could probably kill her if she tried), but she did often see humans leading monsters with ropes.

Surely there was a way to get the creature to agree to be pulled along. Humans did it all the time! Though they often had smaller, meeker creatures at bay. Mostly Tali and Sahound, she noticed. They were more friendly and less… spiky.

Kyrx held out more meat for the creature in one of her claws, and used the others to tie a loose loop in the rope. She encouraged the creature to take the food from her hand, but did not let it go like last time. If it wanted to eat the treat, it would have to stay close to her.

Once she was relatively sure that it was content on being close to her, she hastily threw the large loop over its head. It jerked back, trying to escape, but only managed to pull the loop closed on itself. It seemed panicked for a second, but it did stop to think. At least that’s what Kyrx thought it was doing.

It seemed to be considering the situation and what the wise solution was. It looked at her, the rope, and the food. It realized it was not in pain and was not being attacked. All in all, it didn’t find any threat. It took a gentle step closer to Kyrx to relieve the tension on the rope and accepted its fate. Perhaps it thought the promise of food was worth it.

"Ah, very good," Kyrx said to the creature. Should she pet it? She wasn't sure they had that kind of relationship yet. Instead, she just let go of the jerky so the creature could eat it in peace while she made a plan for what to do next.
