A wide open area of flat, grassy land and rocky trenches, supposedly a wide range of ancient civilizations once lived here. Species that like wide, open areas, such as Gyrophants, Serraptors, and Sahound, thrive here, though only the agile survive. (+3 Speed)

Return to Vast Plains

I'm Walking... (Wombear Hunt, OPEN)

Postby MillietheWarrior » 06/27/2008 10:12 PM

The large reptile padded languidly down a dirt path that cut through the thick, plains grass of the Vast Plains. He shook his head, letting the dirt fly off of him in a giant cloud, his feathers ruffled in annoyance against the grime. A good grooming sounded heavenly right now, but he didn't really feel like stopping. His blue feathers glinted in the sunlight, despite being slightly coated with a thin layer of dust.

He cooed softly as he looked around, though unable to see. The plains were aptly named. Vast, wide and flat expanses of  land that seems to stretch on forever. He could sense the vast emptiness. He didn't even know how long he'd been walking this same path. In fact, he could have been going in circles. Yes, it was possible. But it didn't seem like he cared. He just kept walking, his large, sightless eyes peering straight ahead.

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

The red and black reptile had lived here for some time. Of course, it wasn't fancy, like some places, but it was suitable for a creature like her. She rather enjoyed living out in the vast plains, with the wide open expanses and the deep, blue sky. She loved the beauty that the nature around her seemed to radiate, and her time sent here had been some of her most treasured.

As she walked along the path she took everyday to get home, she spied something up ahead that was fairy unusual. Another Gyrraptor. She hadn't seen one of her own kind in a long time. But he was different than her. He looked so strange, with blue feathers and odd symbols on his body. His eyes seemed to glow an ethereal blue, and she cautiously crept closer to investigate.

Silver, though unable to see, could sense someone within range of him. His blue feathers ruffled up in annoyance, and he swayed his head form side to side, testing the air to get a good lock on the creature that had come too close for comfort. The creature continued forward, unaware of the blind Gyrraptor's growing hostility.

Silver snapped at the air, a low, grumbling growl coming from his throat. The other creature continued forward, until the sharp slap of mind speech caught it off guard. 'Stop there, you, creature. I have no desire to fight. I just want to be left alone. Turn around, before I am forced to take matters into my own claws.'

Sethura's eyes widened, and she lifted her head to stare at the male Gyrraptor. She had been caught off guard by the very annoyed, and quite intimidating mind-speech of the male. She took a step back, giving him the room he desired. The last thing she needed was for him to charge at her, and try to rip her to shreds. She was a peaceful Gyrraptor, despite what others might think by looking at her.

She shook her head, and blinked her red and white eyes. "Don't worry," she cooed, her voice gentle. "I wasn't going to hurt you, sir. I was simply wondering why you were out here, in the middle of nowhere. Have you decided to make your nest here as well?" She seemed genuinely curious, and quite gentle. She could see the male was relaxing, if only slightly. She smiled. "My name is Sethura. What is your name?"

Silver lifted his head, curious. It seemed this intruder was not only female, but one of his kind. he snorted. He didn't really feel like stopping or a chat at the moment. He disliked being around others of his kind. He was different than them, and once they found out that he was handicapped, they often shunned him, or drove him off. No one needed a weakling like him around anyway. Begrudgingly, he stopped his grumbling growl, and stared sightlessly at the place he knew her to be. No, I'm just taking a walk, and looking for something. It's none of your business, really, he said, matter-of-factly. But my name is Silver, if you must know.
[Silver, 3]

"Silver?" Sethura replied, smiling a bit. This Gyrraptor was a bit on the testy side, but who wasn't? And besides, he looked hot and uncomfortable in the mid-afternoon sun. His feathers were darker than hers, and attracted more sunlight. She stepped forward. "Nice to meet you, Silver. I know you said it's none of my business, but if you tell me what you are looking for, maybe I can help."

Silver blanched. Help? She wanted to help him? No one ever wanted to help him. He was an outcast, a misfit. No one wanted anything to do with him. Yet, here she was, speaking in a gentle voice, assuring him that she would help him. He titled his head to the side, and grumbled under his breath. Very well. If you are so intent on aiding me in my search, then I suppose I should tell you. He paused and then sighed. I am seeking a Wombear.
[Silver, 4]

"A Wombear?" Sethura repeated, chuckling to herself. "There are plenty of those around here, Silver. I'm sure you'll find one soon, with or without my help." She stepped forward, and then noticed something a bit off about him. his eyes, while the standard color of any Temple pet, were cloudy, and empty. He was blind. Sethura was a bit taken aback. He didn't seem blind, and seemed in perfect health. "Silver...Are you...I am so sorry if I sound rude, or hurtful, but I must know...Are...Are you blind?"
[Sethura, 4]

Silver growled. There it was. Now she would kick him out of her territory, and chase him off. He closed his eyes, an angry growl ready to rise up in his throat. Yes, he said defensively. But I don't care. I'm looking for a Wombear to help me live my life. It's hard to find food and figure out where I'm going without my sight. No one else wants to be around me. I suppose now you'll want to kick me out of your territory, huh? He looked on the defensive, feathers rising in irritation and anger, ready to defend himself if need be.
[Silver, 5]

Sethura lifted her neck a bit, startled at how defensive he sounded. She only asked  a simple question. Her voice was soft as she cooed to him, and she stepped forward standing by his side as she began to lead him down the path. "I would never kick anyone out of my territory. I don't care if your blind. In fact, it doesn't bother me at all. I don't know why it would." She paused and continued walking, Silver by her side, looking perplexed. "I'll help you find a Wombear. I know we'll find one eventually, even if it takes us all day and night. But don't think I'd ever dislike you because you were blind. I don't know anyone who would be so cruel as to run you from their territory, but that is not me. Trust me. I'm your friend."

Gyep looked out at the Plains. She could see on and on into the distance. Happily, she rolled into a ball, checked that there wasn't anything in her way, then tucked her paws in. The thing that had been holding her down was her paws, so she automatically started rolling. Rolling, rolling, rolling, and occasionally checking that nothing was in her way. Unfortunately, when Gyep rolled for a long time like this, where there was no noise, she normally got sleepy. So in a very short time, she had fallen asleep.

However many hours later, Gyep woke with a soft thump, unrolling as she did. Looking up she saw two Gyrraptors. Getting up, she dusted herself off, and quickly started to apolagize and explain. "- I'm so sorry if I disturbed you," she finished, then sighed. She'd like nothing better than to annoy them (her owners had gotten very annoyed with her, and put her in a different pen then the others, so she couldn't annoy anyone), but they didn't look like the right type to annoy. She didn't want for them to get angry right when she met them.

Silver jumped, his feathers bristling, at the unexpected sound. He had heard the strangest thing. t sounded like rolling, and then a thump. But he couldn't quite figure out what it had been. And when the thing spoke, he let out a squeak of surprise and anger that it had confused him. He growled softly, unable to see, until Sethura placed a comforting claw on his arm. She turned to the Rollaby, a soft smile on her beak. "Why, hello there," she crooned. "You didn't disturb us at all. We were just having a little chat." She glanced at Silver to see he'd calmed down. "My name is Sethura, and this is Silver. Sorry if he seemed a bit rude," she told the Rollaby, and Silver looked away and 'humphed.' "He didn't know what you were."

Bouncing up and down, Gyep replied, "I'm a Rollaby! And my name's Gyep!" On close quarters, she noticed that Silver did have a meaner expression than Sethura. "You're a temple Gyrraptor," she told Silver, noting the Temple markings on his feathers. Her owners were in the process of adding new pets, and while there weren't any Gyrraptors yet, there were a few temples.
Gyep wondered what feathers felt like. After all she had her silky black fur (which was usually matted, due to the fact that she was always jumping and rolling around), and those odd thingies that glowed. But it seemed, that Gyrraptors also had fur on most of their body.
"Do you have feathers and fur?" she asked. "Or just feathers?"

Petal

Petal never understood why she chose the places she wanted to go, it just seemed like fun from the stories her friends told her. All she new right now was that she didn't like this place, there was absolutely no cover for her since she was so tall and couldn't hide in the grass, no matter ho long it got, and it was hot, but not nearly as hot as the Wilt'no desert, now that place was hot. At least it was flat here and there weren't and towering mountains. She decided to make the best of the trip and started to hum her favourite song and started to skip. since for some reason she always hums and skips with her eyes closed she didn't notice the pile of rocks in front of her, so she trips and finds herself at the feet of a pair of gyrraptors and a rollaby.
"How goes it", she says with a mouth full of dust. She blushes bright red suddenly realising her grammar. She pulls herself up, looking grey instead of her usual light pink because when she fell she got covered in dust."That's another thing I don't like about this place, it's dry and dusty", she mumbles to herself. dusting herself off she is able to spit out an introduction,"Hello, I'm Petal, and may I ask what your names are?"
petal puts on a big smile for the strangers happy to have some company, company is the only thing that could make this day better, that and a little rain.

Silver snapped at the air. No duh, he commented sarcastically. Gee, what gave me away? Was it the fact that I have Temple markings? Nothing gets by you, captain obvious! Sethura knocked him with her elbow, growling softly. "Ignore him. He's...just moody, and he doesn't want to admit that you startled him." She smiled at Gyep. "It's very nice to meet you. And I do believe we have fur and feathers, but I never bothered to consider it." She shrugged. "It just doesn't matter to us Gyrraptors."

Silver jumped a bit when another creature entered his field of hearing. Oh, great. More people. Just what I need today! he growled, throwing up his claws. Sethura shushed him and bent to help Petal wipe off the dust. "Please, be more careful dear. You could really hurt yourself," she cooed, "I am Sethura, and this is my friend, Silver. Don't mind his attitude. He needs to curb his temper a bit." She heard the Temple Gyrraptor grumble next to her, and sighed.

"Moody?" Gyep repeated incredulously, her eyes wide with interest. She herself was never anything besides happy and excited.
Blinking quite a bit, Gyep wondered why she hated started on her usual routinue of knocking and rolling into people. Perhaps it was because she actually liked Sethura, and wanted to, well, not annoy her.
Silver... on the other hand. Smiling on the inside, Gyep wondered what would annoy him the most. He was already annoyed, but what would make him even more annoyed?
As she was brainstorming ideas, a Serraptor landed near her.
More people! Gyep thought excitely.
"Hi, my name's Gyep!" she said very quickly, and resumed plotting things to do to Silver.

Finally deciding to try everything, Gyep started with her classic 'roll into a ball and knock into to someone'. Gleefully curling into a ball, she rolled into Silver, then rolled away, keeping her distance. Then she uncurled, and waited for his reaction.

"Sorry about that, i don't always look where I'm going, i was trying to imagine being in my cool air conditioned pen cause it is just so hot here, and i don't mind if he's grumpy, a lot of blind creatures are grumpy, i should know, i live with a lot of them but i learn to live with it. You don't happen to have any water with you do you, I'm really very parched."

(Is it too late to bring this back from the dead?)

Gyep was surprised the Serraptor could speak so quickly. While she missed most of what she said, she caught the last bit.
"Water? I didn't bring anything with me. It's harder to roll with stuff in your hands," Gyep answered cheerfully. "Maybe the two Gyrraptors have some? The Temple one might not share, though," she added thoughtfully. "I think he's not very happy right now. Usually when she tried to annoy someone, "not very happy" was true, but quite a large understatement. Now that Petal had spoken about water, Gyep wondered exactly how long she was going to spend here. Someone had told her that you could die if you didn't eat or drink. She didn't like the prospect of dying.
She shook all the unpleasant thoughts out of her head by physically shaking it. Then, having already begun to be bored, she rolled into a ball, and went crazy, rolling every which way. She just hoped Sethura wouldn’t get mad at her for it. Sethura was nice. She wanted to please her, even if that same courtesy didn’t extend to her companion.
After unrolling, Gyep bounced a little ways away from the three, and stopped to see what everyone’s reaction was. She was sure she had hit at least one of them, if not all. Later, when she was at home, she’d practice her aim a bit, and try out new ways to annoy. Not that she didn’t already have  enough different ones, but variety was good... or so she heard.
