Reed watched his sisters curiously from the corner of his eye, focusing mostly on Ripley to make sure he didn't miss anything she was saying. He didn't know how moms did it--watched their babies and gabbed at the same time. He was doing good to keep his thoughts formed into one sentence while trying to make sure neither infant was in danger of hurting herself or her sibling with the killer rattles. How did Itzal make this look so easy?

At the mention of his biological father's name, however, Reed stiffened a little and placed his full attention on Ripley. He didn't know too much about his biological parents and what he could remember was rather foggy, but he knew he had always felt sick to his stomach when he'd had play dates with the man. "Ah, not exactly. Krites is just the biological half." he answered rather flatly as he turned his eyes to his sisters. "Itzal is my adopted dad, but he's the one that matters. I have nothing to do with my biological family."

He shifted uncomfortably for a moment before finally looking to Ripley again. "I have to admit, I didn't know you and Orion were related. You two couldn't be more different from each other. What was he like as a kid?"
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

From the complete change in his body language Ripley knew she'd stepped a little too far - but she was too curious to not know the answer. At least Reed hadn't completely shut down on her. "Ah. Sorry to bring up bad memories. I didn't know you were adopted, you look like you could be Itzal's biological son." Well, perhaps that was why he'd been adopted in the first place. Itzal had barely told her anything about Krites - only that he'd taken custody of Reed when he was just a baby, and that he hadn't had much contact with his other parent.

"Related? ....Oh!" She laughed softly. "Sorry, no. I was just trying to relate our experiences - We both come from huge families." She nodded slightly to herself. "Though we could be related because of that. I did know your dad and Orion when we were kids for a little while though. They were older than me, but we grew up in the same area before Turok moved them across the country." She frowned a little at the memory. It hadn't been a pleasant one, and she had always wished she had tried a little harder to stay with the boys.

"Orion's family didn't even seen to care much that he had left, but I was heartbroken. I didn't get to meet up with them for years after - and by then you were grown up and ready to start off on your own."

Reed rubbed the back of his neck with a slightly wet hand and quickly switched to the towel to dry off before any droplets could run down his back. Ah well...that was embarrassing. At least she had a good nature about him misunderstanding her though. He listened quietly as she told of how she'd known his father and uncle...and of his other uncle, Turok.

Itzal tried not to talk of the man too much, but Reed was well aware of many of the horrible things the tall, dark man had done to his father figure. He turned his eyes to the dishes at hand and wiped them down silently for a moment while he tried to think of what to say to all that.

"Well, you look good for being the old man's age, so kudos to you," he finally replied with a half smirk. He didn't want to touch on the subjects of Turok or the moves and torments that he'd put Itzal and Orion through. He didn't really want to let the mood of the room fall that far into despair.

While she didn't know everything that happened Ripley knew there were some dark things that had gone on between Turok and Itzal. It was hard to reconcile the fairly kind image of Turok with the horror stories she had pieced together from both Orion and Itzal. She believed them though, there was no reason to lie. She was just happy that they had escaped that, that Reed was never a part of it.

Laughing softly she gave Reed a soft grin. "Five years younger, but thanks Reed. I was lucky they wanted a bratty little girl following them around." With the dishes done she turned to the girls again, smiling as she picked up Roshan and bounced the fussy girl playfully on her hip.

"I'm still surprised that Itzal had so much of your baby stuff still around. Did he want more kids then?"

Reed laughed as he took the last dish from her and made short work of it with the already saturated towel. "Sorry, five years younger than dad and Orion," he said back. Cadence would have smacked him for calling her on her age, so he had really been ready for a good slug on the arm at the very least. He was more than a little surprised to find that Ripley didn't seem to care at all.

"Good question, dad has always liked kids. Don't know if he really wanted anymore of his own, but I think he was waiting and hoping for me to give him some grandkids by now." Itzal hadn't really talked too much to his son about wanting more siblings for him, so the young man could only assume that all the infant items he had kept a hold of were both for nostalgia and for future grandkids. Cadence sure wasn't going to give into that idea anytime soon though...

"But you know, hard to think of family stuff when you're on the road, I'm sure he's better equipped for it than I am anyway."

Ripley seemed much more easy going than Cadence at least. She could not care less about what most others thought about her, including her age. Of course she made effort to look presentable, to always look her best, but whether or not others approved was rarely of any consequence for her.

"You have a point there." She laughed softly, continuing to saunter around the kitchen with Roshan, who seemed much happier now that she was being held. Natela still dozed easily in her playpen. "You are a little young for grandkids, though I'm sure he does expect them eventually. He raised you just fine on the road, didn't he? Never too early to think about it, at least. Be prepared if it happens."

Reed chuckled and shrugged his shoulders. He supposed it was something he should be ready for, but with no real homestead where exactly would he even keep everything? Besides, he wasn't even sure that Cadence would stay the course if they ended up with a family. She may well just up and leave; take their family with her and disappear into normal, everyday life. That uncertainty scared Reed a good deal and he shook his head to shake the very thoughts away.

"Never would hurt I guess, but that's a lot of gear to tote around when you live out of your tiny tour bus."he smiled, thinking back to his childhood. "And yeah, dad did a great job raising me on the road. But there's no guarantee that I'd be half the father he was and is. Not really something I want to test out in the middle of a tour. Gotta keep the fans happy...add a little family into that too? I don't know that that's the kind of pressure I really want."

Not that he didn't like kids, of course. But the thought of all the logistics that went into it was something that gave Reed a headache.

Nodding slightly along Ripley could understand where he was coming from. It surely could not be easy to raise kids on the road. Most musicians with families didn't even try, they were more than happy to either settle down, or leave the little ones at home to be raised with infrequent visits. That was never the life that Itzal wanted for his kids, working as hard as he could to keep Reed safe and happy while still performing.

"I can understand that. I'll be perfectly content to come around and see the little ones here, play auntie while I can. I have no plans for little ones until far into the future." Seeing Itzal's girls grow up would be wonderful anyway, he was such a kind man.

The door opened soon after, Itzal coming in holding as many bags as he could carry. "Alright, one more load out there Reed if your hands aren't full." He called out as he came into the kitchen, all smiles for them. "I got groceries too! And plenty of formula, and some baby food."

"Yeah, what with the new girls and Uncle Orion starting his own puppy rescue, I think there's plenty here to keep me from being too lonely for a family." Reed chuckled. He could hear the car pulling up to the house and ducked to the side to look out the window about the same time Itzal came through the door with his arms beyond loaded down.

"Sure dad, I've got the last of it. You need those to hold the mic and the babies, don't go breaking them." he said with a playful wink before disappearing out the door and leaving Ripley to help his father free up his arms again. It didn't take long for him to return looking much the same--his nose and eyes just barely visible over the top parcel.

"You'd think the apocalypse was coming, did you leave any for the rest of the town when you left the store?" Reed laughed as he carefully slid a few containers of formula onto the counter before seeking out other counter space to place the rest of his items down on.

Giggling happily at the mention of the puppies Ripley shook her head. "But they're so cute, Reed! It's good to get the little ones used to animals too, so they aren't scared later." She moved to meet Itzal in the doorway, helping with some of the bags. The girls' things were easy enough to take to their room and put away, she could leave the boys to manage the groceries on their own.

Shaking his head at his son Itzal got everything into the kitchen with a grin. "Hey, I think I can manage well enough." He called back as he found the bags with cold items and began to put those away. Turning back to Reed he laughed softly, taking the top parcel and setting that onto the table. "That is yours, by the way. You needed new shoes, no whining." He couldn't help but take care of his son and had noticed the very ratty shoes he'd come in with.

"There was plenty left at the store, thank you. Plus I don't always have a babysitter, I have to make sure I have enough. I don't want to leave them with Orion all the time. You two are free to go after we get everything put away."
