Laughing softly at the statement Itzal moved to gently rock Natela, content with her now-happy gurgles. "That's true. You always loved the music, and I'm glad to let you take my place." There were plenty of young rock stars out there, but Reed was by far one of the most popular. His son was handsome and charismatic, and had a good heart to boot.

"It's not that I don't think much of her, I just only know her stage persona." She was fairly stand-off with him, and wasn't always interested in what he had to say. If Reed liked her though he knew that behind the curtains she was at least a decent person.

Another soft laugh as he shook his head, settling the little girl into a playpen now, and moving to help Reed do the same with her sister. They could use a bit of playtime to just take in their new surroundings. "Ah, well, I expected that. Hopefully they won't have to meet."

Reed gave a cocky lopsided grin when his father praised him and his 'taking of the throne' comment. It was always good to know that your parent approved of your life choices at the end of the day no matter how old you were. With Roshan having sucked her bottle dry, Reed awkwardly mimicked what he's seen Itzal doing moments ago with her twin.

"Yeah...there's not too much difference between the two. But she's not always so bad," he said. She was hard to explain and she did her best to stay that way. Which made her all the scarier when faced with things such as other female rockers...and him spending the day with her. Babysitting. Something usually reserved for 'couples' to do together, not strangers.

"If only I could be so lucky..."
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

Of course Itzal approved of his son. He knew that the lifestyle wasn't ideal for most but it just made sense for he and Reed. That wanderlust when he was younger wasn't sated until he'd played at every venue that would accept him, and he was fairly certain Reed had caught that bug as well. It had been amazing to play with him and there were no hard feelings when Reed had chosen his own path with Cadence. They still played together often enough to not feel that loss.

"She can't be if you like to be around her. I know everyone has a good side to them." Even if they didn't show it off very often, or to anyone but those that they trusted. "I'm sure it'll be alright, Reed. Cadence doesn't want to be around the little ones, she won't come over while you're babysitting for me. And Ripley is good company. I'm sure the girls wouldn't mind if you picked up something to play, I sang for them earlier and they seemed to like that." He'd only be gone for a few hours anyway.

Reed flushed a little as he shrugged, getting up to place his sister in the playpen with her twin. It was still weird--having sisters when he was old enough to be their dad. Nice practice, he supposed, for if he ever was a dad. If he stuck things out with Cadence...well...he'd probably never get that chance. And for the most part he was fine with that knowledge...but...

"I think I'm going to get some beauty sleep dad, it's been a long drive back and guess it's going to be busy again tomorrow. You cool if I leave you and the little ladies to do your thing?" He paused, looking to where he had left his few belongings. "I could always help get them back to sleep first if you wanted."

"Of course Reed, I'm sure you're tired." Itzal nodded to his son with a smile, moving to turn on the tv for a bit. "I don't know if they're going back to sleep, but I know I'm not. Go ahead, we'll be good until you get up." He gave him one more gentle hug before shooing him off to his room. Lucky he'd bought such a large house when he'd decided he needed a stable place. Reed still had his own room, the master bedroom was his, and there were two other rooms - which the twins were occupying one now, and likely would until they were old enough to argue about wanting their own room.

----

For a few hours at least Itzal and the girls slept in the living room, and he was attentive when they woke and needed changed and fed again. Reed would likely wake to the smell of coffee and cinnamon rolls, Itzal humming softly to himself, the playpen moved into the kitchen so he could keep an eye on the girls. At least they seemed happy this morning, watching Itzal move about the kitchen.

Reed emerged from his room the next morning, stretching his arms up over his head to accompany a hearty yawn. The scents of coffee and cinnamon had done their jobs in waking him. He had slept in his clothes from the night before, but after a quick shower he was ready for his day of babysitting. At least, he hoped he was.

"Morning everyone," he greeted with a much smaller yawn, looking into the pen where his sisters were contently kicking and watching their father bustle about the kitchen. "It's been a while since I've woken up to that smell. Cadence always prefers bacon and heavier stuff."

He flushed a little, realizing that perhaps his father didn't know he and Cadence were living together more than just on the road. Oh well, cat was out of the bag now. "So, when's Ripley turning up?"

"Morning Reed." Itzal smiled as he put the finishing touches on the rolls, icing them and setting them off to the side to wash his hands and check on the girls. Things would be rough the first few days... But at least they seemed fairly happy. He just hoped he could keep them that way. They would surely miss their mother and whatever routine they had before now, but he could give them something of a good life he hoped.

Quirking a brow at his son he let the subject drop just for now, he could talk to him later about his living arrangements. "She should be here at any time, the promise of coffee always gets her here." He chuckled a little, pouring himself a cup and gesturing for Reed to have his fill of whatever he liked. "There's orange juice and milk in the fridge as well."

It certainly didn't take long for Ripley to show up, perhaps ten minutes later there was a knock on the door before she just opened it up.

"Gods, Itzal! You didn't tell me you could cook. It smells wonderful in here." She pulled off her shoes before walking into the kitchen, smiling at Reed before walking over to the playpen to coo at the babies. "Oh, they're adorable! I think we can handle these cuties while daddy gets the rest of their things, can't we?" She softly picked up Roshan, smiling brightly at the gurgling baby. "Have you decided on names yet?"

Bullet dodged (for now, he wasn't so naive to think Itzal wasn't going to have something to say about it), Reed went about making himself breakfast. A glass of milk, a hot cinnamon roll that he bounced from one hand to another until he reached the plate, and a cup of coffee with some of his milk and sugar added--to be cool and easily able to be chugged by the time he was done with his food. Yeah, life was pretty good.

He had no sooner finished his roll than the door came open and the woman whom he assumed was Ripley came in. He looked her over just short of approvingly, watching her as she went straight for his sisters. Well, she seemed nice enough. "Nice to meet 'ya. Names Reed,"

It was hard to be suave so early in the morning, but Reed would manage. At least the fellow rocker was easy to look at.

"Nice to meet you Reed, I'm Ripley. But I'm sure you knew that." She laughed softly as she sat down with Roshan in her lap, bouncing her gently as she snagged a glass of milk that Itzal set in front of her.

"I did, Reed and I talked about it last night. The one you have is Roshan, and the other is Natela." Itzal sat down with his own breakfast after picking up Nat, the fussy girl gumming on his shirt collar contentedly. He picked up his own cinnamon roll, eating it carefully with a fork since he had the little one in his lap.

"Beautiful names, I like them." Ripley nodded in agreement, smiling at Roshan and gently tickling her tummy. "What about you, Roshan? You like your name hunh?" The little girl cooed and giggled, flailing her arms for a moment. "Ah, I think she does. You can head out whenever you need, Itzal. I think we've got this."

Reed offered a smile. She seemed natural with the girls...which was great considering he knew nothing. "You may have been mentioned once or twice. Not everyone can fill in my shoes you know," he jested before downing the rest of his milk to set the mug aside in favor of the coffee. He took her cue--something he was used to doing with Cadence-- and got up almost automatically to take Natela from his father.

"Yeah, I'm sure we've got this. I know you still need a lot for these two--might as well get going." Did that sound too forward? He hoped not, Itzal surely knew he wasn't trying to get rid of him. But he also knew his father could use some time away and some fresh air...even if shopping was involved.

"Are you sure?" Itzal trusted them of course, it was just an automatic question. He smiled anyway though, nodding. "Alright, alright. I got it. I'll go get them what they need and make a grocery trip for us." He leaned in to give Roshan a soft kiss to her cheek, ruffling Reed's hair and giving Natella the same. "I won't be gone long, and I have my phone if you need me."

"Yes, of course over-protective dad. We'll be fine. All of my siblings are still alive. Go." Ripley laughed at his expression before she set Roshan back into her pen, washing up the morning dishes and taking a sip of coffee. Once the door shut she turned to Reed, watching him with Nat for a moment. "She won't break, you know. Kids are pretty resilient. You don't need to worry about hurting her."

Reed chuckled and waved his dad off. Of course he was over-protective--he always had been. Ripley seemed so natural at this, what could go wrong? As the door clicked closed he turned his attention back to the young woman watching him, seeming confused for a moment.

"Ah, well. That's easy to say for someone who has had siblings most of their lives. These are my first ever...baby experiences. So I'd rather not find out the hard way," he said laughingly. With Natela calmed again he placed her back into the pen with her sister and moved to help Ripley with the dishes, snatching up a dry towel from the bar on front of the oven to begin drying as she washed.

"So, touring with dad and Orion. How's that been treating you so far?'

"I suppose you have a point." Ripley laughed as she shook her head, moving to let Reed help her with the dishes. With all of that done she carefully scooted the playpen into the living room and looked around, finding the remote to turn on the tv just for some noise. An empty house was probably the worst, and it was quiet enough she and Reed could still talk.

"Oh, not so bad. Itzal and Orion are night and day, but they make for good company. Orion's told me stories of your dad's younger days." She flashed a playful grin as she played with the girls, crinkling some rattling toys at them. "You happy in your own band? He always talks so wistfully of having you close."

Dishes done, Reed helped to guide the playpen into the other room and made himself comfortable on the couch. He chuckled when she mentioned Itzal's younger days. "Oh yeah, I've heard my share of them too. Can never say dad hasn't lived his life to the fullest," he agreed, moving his eyes to watch what she was doing with the girls. Logging it into the back of his mind for later, just in case.

"It's pretty different, being in my own band. But it's nice, you know, getting to front one without feeling like I'm stepping on dad's toes too much. Makes for some great collab work that the fans just eat up too. We still tour together often enough that it doesn't always feel like I've really left Event Horizon." He paused thoughtfully, not quite losing his smile though it did fade just a bit. "Can be hard though. We were all we had for a long while, so it's always bittersweet even if there are new rewards to be gained from striking out on my own."
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. "Very true." She chuckled softly as she let the girls each have one of the rattles to inspect for themselves. They were still so young... She hoped that Itzal knew what he was getting himself in to. Twins were much harder than just having one.

Turning to Reed and nodding, she listened intently to his explanation. "I wish I had that sort of relationship with my parents. Orion and I are both one of seven, so it was hard to get one-on-one attention." She had seen kids who were far less adjusted than Reed though, smothered by too much affection from their parents. Being a young father probably helped Itzal with that, wanting Reed to fend for himself and learn on his own.

"The crowds do love it when you two are on the stage together. I did have a question though, and I've honestly been dying to find out the answer. Itzal said that your other parent's name was Krites. You have two dads? Not that there's anything wrong with that." She hastily added. "Itzal doesn't shy from attention from anyone, I just found it interesting. Especially with him being so young."
