Reed frowned ore deeply, scooting down a little closer to his father as they sat quietly on the couch for a moment. "Hey, don't talk like that. Look, this is a lot on everyone right now, right?" He paused long enough to get some sign that Itzal agreed with him...or at the very least heard him. "She doesn't think you're scum. You had no way of knowing that other girl was pregnant if she never called you. You're not a mind reader. I'm sure she feels hurt and just wants to forget anything was ever brewing but...dad come on. That lady has always been crazy about you. She's just afraid to let you know."
Ok, so he didn't know that for a spoken fact, but he had seen the way Kasari smiled when Itzal was interacting with her kids. She loved the way his dad treated her family, and by extension, she probably loved Itzal at least a little or she wouldn't have let him keep coming around.
"She's feeling vulnerable right now more than anything, I bet my career on that. I bet, that if you really want her in your life, if you showed her something big she'd understand. She needs to know you still love her--not the mystery mom to my new sisters."
