Reed frowned ore deeply, scooting down a little closer to his father as they sat quietly on the couch for a moment. "Hey, don't talk like that. Look, this is a lot on everyone right now, right?" He paused long enough to get some sign that Itzal agreed with him...or at the very least heard him. "She doesn't think you're scum. You had no way of knowing that other girl was pregnant if she never called you. You're not a mind reader. I'm sure she feels hurt and just wants to forget anything was ever brewing but...dad come on. That lady has always been crazy about you. She's just afraid to let you know."

Ok, so he didn't know that for a spoken fact, but he had seen the way Kasari smiled when Itzal was interacting with her kids. She loved the way his dad treated her family, and by extension, she probably loved Itzal at least a little or she wouldn't have let him keep coming around.

"She's feeling vulnerable right now more than anything, I bet my career on that. I bet, that if you really want her in your life, if you showed her something big she'd understand. She needs to know you still love her--not the mystery mom to my new sisters."
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

Nodding a little as he set his cup down Itzal moved to pat his son on the shoulder. Reed had never really been the one to want physical affection, and he tried not to push it on him too much. "I know... I know it isn't all on me. I just... I guess I didn't think it would happen to me. I'm always -careful-." Rarely did they talk about their romantic lives, and it was still a bit of an awkward thing to discuss.

Of course Kasari and Itzal both were stubborn and needed time to calm down after all of this. It was a lot to take in, and these little girls needed Itzal more than they needed one another right now. "Of course I love her. Far more than someone I was using to try and forget her." He almost cringed at his poor choice of words - no matter how true they were. "I just don't know what to do. There isn't anything big enough to atone for this."

Shifting a little uncomfortably (more from the topic than the touch and closeness), Reed mustered a smile and a shrug. "Hey, I know that. You went almost 24 years with just me...your luck on that was bound to run out at some point." He wasn't so foolish, living the same lifestyle, to think other one night stands had never happened between his father and other concert-goers. Especially not for that number of years.

Reed cringed a little for Itzal even though he knew what the older musician meant by it. "You spent my whole life telling me to do something from the heart, and that is what would make people believe in me. If you really want Kasari to believe what you're telling her is true then do what you do best. Write a song. We're performing a concert at her diner after all--she'll have to hear it."

It at least left Itzal with a bit of a chuckle. Sure, his luck had run out he supposed. "I had just always hoped if it did that they would at least tell me." He really couldn't stand the thought of children growing up in an orphanage to begin with, and especially not his own. They deserved so much better.

"You really think a song would get her back, Reed? It's a little too movie cliche to seem real." It could work though. Kasari was the type of girl to be wooed by a song, if in the right mood. Maybe a few days would give her some time to calm down and not be so upset over the whole thing. If they could just talk, he was sure that they could work it out.

Nodding a little he leaned back into the couch, though sat up straight again once the monitor had soft gurgles - but the girl soon quieted down. "You sure you don't mind helping with them? It's been a long time since I've been a new dad, and you weren't ever this little."

Reed shrugged. "Well you know how some of the band groupies can be...maybe they weren't entirely sure who the father was? Could have been worse--she could have kept them and went to the tabloids and everywhere else screaming that she had a rock singers kids and he was a no show." People could be so cruel these days where the almighty dollar was so important. That chick could have really ruined his life worse than she already had if she'd wanted to. "At least the orphanage double-checked and contacted you. The best, most quiet way it could have happened if it had to happen at all."

"It's worth a try, isn't it? Who doesn't like being the inspiration for something?" His attention flickered over to the monitor for a minute, grip tightening just a little on the arm of the couch. He'd never been around babies before and while he liked them...they were sort of terrifying at the same time.

"Sure...how hard can it be, right?"

Itzal didn't seem entirely convinced that this wasn't the worst outcome, though he did nod at Reed's words. "That wouldn't be good." It would have been a lengthy court battle, especially if the girl could 'prove' she had informed him of them and he'd never responded. "Yeah. It was the quietest way." At least this way he had them free  and clear, she had given up rights, and now the girls were safe with him.

"True." He chuckled a little. "I had already started writing something... Maybe I can finish it before the concert." He was fairly sure that he could anyway, it was mostly finished.

A small shake of his head as he leaned into the couch again. "Yeah. At this stage it's easier, I think. They don't need a lot. To be held, fed, or changed. And they aren't getting into every cupboard they can reach." He chuckled, gently ruffling his hair. "You were a bit of a challenge."

Reed nodded and gave his dad a hearty pat on the shoulder. "That's the spirit! Things are going to turn out alright." If Itzal had already been working on a song, he worried that the tones may differ too much, but Reed let that slide. Itzal was too practiced of a songwriter to let that happen--he'd adjust the lyrics or the music one way or another he was sure.

What he wasn't so sure about was Itzal's assurance that the girls were going to be 'easier' t care for.

"Ah, I'll have to take your word on that one," he said with a chuckle. "They're just so...small. Like if I sneeze wrong I'll break them."

Of course he hadn't actually seen the girls yet, so they were actually much smaller than the size he had in his head. But from what Itzal had told him, they were still super young.

Re: The Urgency of Phone Calls [P - Kallile][M?]

"I hope so Reed." He had always felt terrible that Reed had grown up in a broken home. He'd done everything he could for his adopted son, and even tried to foster a bit of love between him and Krites, but it had never worked out. At least they could be civil to one another.

"I promise you won't. They're more resilient than you think." He had taken a long time to learn that lesson with Reed and stop coddling him quite so much. It just hurt, to even hear his little boy whimper. At least it wouldn't be long for Reed o meet the girls - one of them raised their voice immediately in far more than a whimper, crying out loudly.

"Let's go get them." Itzal smiled a little, pulling Reed up from the couch and into their room. It was a little sparse right now but he'd have everything else tomorrow for them. He picked up the one that was crying, Natela, and gently motioned for Reed to pick up the other girl. She was awake but only whimpering a little, not seeming interested in a full-blown episode yet.

He brought them out to the kitchen to start making some bottles, shushing and rocking the one in his arms lightly. "They weren't given names, but I thought a little about it. ....To be honest I thought about it a lot when you were younger. Settling down, finding someone who wanted to raise you with me."

Reed had never thought of himself as being from a broken home, but if he would ever take a minute to think about it he would have realized that his relaxed relationship with Cadence probably stemmed from Itzal never having a woman in their lives. They'd had many, and while the young rocker wasn't nearly as promiscuous he had had a few flings. His face soon sunk further when one girl decided to cry---the point of no return.

As Itzal picked Natela up, Reed looked to Roshan as a deer might look headlong into the headlights of a car. He looked over to his father, watching what he did and tried to mimic it. He was awkward at best, holding his little sister like she was a priceless piece of fine china. "Ugh, hey there...little sis. I'm your big bro, Reed."

He didn't dare try to mimic the rocking motion, but he did hum softly in place of shushing, Roshan held close to his chest. "You did fine. But you know...Kasari has wanted that too. She's been alone with those kids more than she's had any help." It wasn't the best subtle hint, but it was the best he could do while inwardly panicking about holding a newborn.

It was lucky that Roshan seemed comforted just by being picked up. She hadn't been the instigator of this cry it seemed. He quieted down to whimpers, and as Reed hummed to her she just looked up to him with big blue eyes, squirming in her blankets before settling down curled up against his chest.

"I know." Itzal sighed as he finished the bottles, steering Reed to sit down to feed Roshan. He'd feel more comfortable, he figured, sitting and having the arms of the chair as cushions with the baby. "Just hold it for her... Yeah, just like that." He sat next to him again, feeding the much fussier Natela. "I know. I just... I wanted to be there for her now. I don't want her to think I intentionally abandoned these girls."

Switching to a slightly lighter conversation he rocked Natela lightly, gently adjusting Reed to hold the bottle a little lower for Roshan. "My name means 'Shadow', so I thought I would name my kids names meaning 'Light'. ...The one you're holding, I thought I'd call her Roshan, and this little one Natela. What do you think, Reed? Too much for little girls?"

Reed did everything his father told him to do, a smile of quiet pride falling onto his face when his little sister began suckling her bottle successfully. The smile faltered every time Itzal instructed him to alter his arm or shift his hold, but the smile would soon find its way back. Hey, this wasn't nearly so bad. "I don't think she'd think that way. I mean, she had to step up to be a single parent...you're doing the same. She'll see that when the dust settles, I'm sure."

Reed contemplated the names, still focused on Roshan and her bottle. "I think they're great names, dad. They can't all be cute little princess names--they've got to grow up some day." He grinned, taking his eyes away for a second to smile at Itzal. "But ugh...tomorrow when you go to get the rest of their stuff...I'm not going to be here by myself with them, right?"

Itzal couldn't help his own grin as he snuck out his camera and took a picture of Reed and Roshan. He certainly needed to remember to buy another baby book for the girls. Reed's was already stuffed with too many pictures to be continued on with these little ones.

"That they do." He was fairly glad that Reed had been given a choice in his own name- Krites has wanted to name him some ancient name with a weight the little boy would never want. "I planned on asking Ripley if she wanted to come over with you, unless you want to be by yourself?" He asked with a soft laugh. His guitarist wasn't particularly enthusiastic about children, but she was happy to help out if asked. Besides, she was Reed's age. Surely they'd get along. As far as he knew they hadn't spent much time together though, Ripley was a fairly recent addition to their band, Reed's replacement as he had went off to pursue his own career.

The click of the camera drew a bewildered look from Reed. "Ah man, come on dad! They just got here and I'm a total mess!" Reed never had really been one for candid shots--he preferred the photo shoots and the shots taken at concerts while he was preforming. But him awkwardly holding a baby? How embarrassing. "Besides, now there's proof that I know how to hold one. How am I supposed to fend off the fangirl moms wanting me to pose with their newborns now?" He was joking, of course.

At the mention of a new band member Reed began interested, tilting his head to see both Roshan and Itzal at once. "Ripley, huh? I guess that could work. You know if Cadence comes over there's going to be hell to pay though right?" Though who was he kidding--Cadence wasn't coming in ten miles of the newborns.

"So? There's plenty of pictures of me and you where I'm a complete mess." He laughed, grinning as he sat down next to Reed to burp Natela, rubbing and patting her back gently. "Just throw Cadence at them, she's scary enough." He shrugged with a smile. For not wanting to be with him she was certainly protective of his son, and he was fairly certain of what their relationship would come to be later.

"It's her loss. Cadence didn't want to help, and I don't want to leave you here alone with them. Ripley has some younger siblings, so she at least knows what to do. Not saying you don't, Reed, but it's hard to look after two on your own." Ripley would be a good help, especially since they had few other options. "I'd say you'll be fine with Ripley. She and Cadence would certainly give one another hell though."

Reed shrugged the shoulder holding the least of Roshan's modest weigh, not wanting to disturb her while she finished her bottle. "Yeah, but to me you've always been dad. I'm supposed to be the young rock star." He joked with a soft laugh, grin growing even larger as Itzal mentioned tossing Cadence at them.

"You may not think much of her, but Cadence is pretty awesome when she's not around everyone. She's not quite so scary, anyway. Reed still wasn't sure why he was so taken with Cadence, it's not like they'd ever been anything exclusive or ever been in an actual relationship. They just sort of..were.  Whatever that meant in the end.

"Alright, but if they start clawing each others eyes out I'm just going to say right now...nice knowing you dad but I'm absolutely throwing you under the bus as the brains behind this operation."
