First Christmas [Cita and I] [L?]

Postby Kallile » 11/03/2016 5:30 PM

The day the kids had been waiting for was finally here: Christmas! The adults had already been up for quite some time making sure that all the preparations were ready, that breakfast was on the table and lunch was beginning to cook in the oven. So much to do in one tiny house--luckily Orion and Itzal lived next to one another so there was plenty of space to spread out when needed. It also allowed for one house to be more for gifts, and the other more for food.

ImageImage
Reed------------------Cadence

The eldest son of Itzal was busy in the kitchen doing what he did best--icing the cinnamon rolls. He was handy enough, but he liked to leave the baking to others. Icing, however...he could always do that. And he got to lick the spoon when he was done. Cadence leaned against the counter beside him groggily with coffee in hand, watching her band partner idly as he worked.

Kavi-------------------Gita

Kavi raced around the kitchen perimeter the adults had set up, his eyes still glazed over with tiredness but his mind more than ready for the day ahead.

"Hurry, hurry! Let's eat so we can open presents!" he squealed as he watched Reed slowly drizzle on the icing to the morning goodies. Gita wasn't nearly so coarse--she sat quietly at the table with her hands folded calmly in her lap. He nightgown was barely wrinkled at all when compared to her brother's ripped and rumpled set. She sighed at him before her eyes sought out her father in the crowd.

"Will mother be joining us today, father? It has been a while since she last visited us."

As it would happen, the young girls wish was to be granted. The woman strolled down the alley behind their houses with a small parcel of gifts under her arm. It wasn't often she risked bringing gifts home, but her children were deserving of it especially given the time of year. It wasn't much--only items she was able to carry with her regardless of form. And as luck would have it, a new snow was falling fast. Her tracks would be covered and her scent harder to find with the icy wind biting at the noses of anyone pursuing her. She could comfortably stay a few days before moving on again.

Saya

She walked to the door quietly, looking around to make sure no airborne creatures were around that might blow her cover before giving a single knock. It wasn't her shared home with Orion--she needed to be at least a little polite. And she'd certainly be the only one knocking at the back door this time of morning.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

Itzal -------------------------- Natela

Leaving his eldest son to frost the cinnamon rolls Itzal moved onto the dishes, mindful to slip past Cadence carefully. He had Natela nestled in a sling on his chest; the only place she seemed to be comfortable in these days. There was no doubt the twins were attached to their father but Nat seemed the most fussy about being away from him. "Want to get another pot on, Cadence?" He asked the sleepy woman with a cheeky grin. "I'd like more than a cup."

Image Image
Orion -------------------------- Kiana

Orion had picked up a sleepy Kiana on his way over to the house, gently setting her down at the table next to her sister as the boys ran around. He shook his head, smiling as he gently stroked a hand through Kavi's hair as he passed. "We cannot open presents until everyone is here, Kavi." He reminded before skirting around Reed and getting everyone sippy cups of milk. "I know she said she may be able to if the weather did not get too bad." He offered to his daughter, handing her a cup before kissing her cheek softly. Looking up at the knock to the door he waved Itzal off. "No, you've got wet hands and a sleepy baby. I've got it." Opening up the door he was pleasantly surprised with Saya, reaching out to pull her into a soft hug and inside the door. "Saya. We were hoping you could come. Breakfast is on and everyone is awake, for the most part." He chuckled softly, just happy to see she had come. Not just for the kids - he was well aware of the ache in his chest without her by his side.

"Hi mommy!" Kiana put down her sippy cup to greet her, though she didn't leave her seat. She knew better, since Itzal was opening up the oven to check on everything cooking in there.

Image Image
Roshan -------------------------- Cannox

Far less hyper though no less excited than his brother Cannox had taken up the couch with Roshan, snuggling the still-sleepy baby as they watched the Christmas cartoons. As the door opened he peered over the side of the couch, breaking out into a wide smile. "Hi mama!" He called out though didn't relinquish his spot since Roshan was still sleepily clinging to him. He had really been taken with the twins, getting along with them far better than his own siblings at times.

Ripley

Having made a quick run to the other house to ensure all the gifts were in place Ripley came back in the front door, shutting it quickly behind her. "Brr! It's chilly isn't it?" She laughed softly with the kids on the couch, pulling off her coat and boots before peering into the kitchen. "Almost everyone is here! Any idea where Kasari is with the rest of the rugrats? Those cinnamon rolls may not survive long enough if she doesn't get here." She teased with a wide smile.

Occasionally Reed's tongue would slip out from between his lips as he concentrated on getting equal amount of icing on every single pastry. With this many kids...and uneven amount would be instantly noted and World War 3 would break out within the house. Cadence let it slip by without a quip for now; instead she focused her eye-rolling capabilities on Itzal as he moved about the kitchen. She didn't really care, mind you, but it was early and the night owl was simply not having it.

"Yeah, sure," she mumbled in response as she turned to take the empty pot and get everything reset for a new batch. She'd need at least 5 more cups before she felt remotely human anyway.

Meanwhile, not far away, Kavi heaved a sigh and took his sippy cup out of defeat when Orion offered it to him. "Oh alright..." he sighed before clambering up next to his sisters. Placing his cup on the table he flopped his chin onto the wooden surface and stared at the white liquid inside. Gita took her cup much more politely, leaning in every so delicately to her father's kiss. The knock at the back door turned both of their heads, though neither dared to move as Orion went to see who it was.

Saya smiled softly at Orion, moving the parcel to be received into his arms. She moved her own behind his back and held him tightly for a moment as they slipped inside the door as a single unit. When safely inside she released him from their embrace slowly, still smiling, and held out the parcel for him to take. "It's not much, but I brought the children gifts. There's something in there for you as well" She turned the corner with him, placing a cold hand on each child's shoulder and leaning down to give them all a kiss on the tops of their heads. "Hello my loves, have you been behaving for your father?"

Kasari

Alana------------Milo

Meanwhile, a little trio drove slowly down the road. Kasari had seen Ripley arrive and had stopped and let her get inside without being noticed. She wasn't ready to be bombarded with merry wishes just yet, not with such a large gift to keep under wraps. She was terrified honestly, after how she'd reacted to Itzal earlier in the year. But they had moved past all that, hadn't they? Would he still be willing to remember that when he knew?

"Um...mom? We can go now, Aunt Ripley is inside..." Alana reminded her from the back of the car. Kasari gave a short laugh and nod as they coasted down the rest of the hill to pull up in front of the houses.

"Alright, everyone out! Grab some packages to bring in with you!"

Milo made it through the door first, the little boy's face barely visible from behind the mound of presents he carried. "Someone help before they squish me!" he squealed with a laugh, making his legs wobble and buckle comically. Alana nudged him further in the door so that she could get through, smiling brightly at the three occupants on the couch.

"Merry Christmas!"

Kasari stood outside for just a moment longer, her finger moving along the edge of the envelope concealed in her pocket. She could hear the happy voices of everyone inside and for just one moment longer, she wanted to cherish that and hope that they would sound the same in just a few hours.

Itzal couldn't help his soft chuckle. At least Cadence was willing to make the coffee so he could keep the little one on his chest asleep with minimal movement. "Thanks Cadence, you're a lifesaver." She always seemed so cold, but he was more than sure she secretly enjoyed all of this. The rest of the food was settled into the oven before he leaned up against the counter, softly patting Nat's back as she yawned.

Shaking his head a bit at the kids Orion smiled, ruffling Kavi's hair gently. "Don't you want some of Uncle's delicious cinnamon rolls? We'll get to presents soon, I promise." Taking the presents from Saya he smiled, nodding slightly once he was released. The warm hug did plenty to make him feel more at home, and he was reluctant to leave it. "Oh, thank you Saya. I'll take these to our home, that's where we're keeping the gifts." A soft kiss was pressed to her cheek before he slipped away for a few moments.

Remaining where she was Kiana twisted in the chair to watch her go to the living room and see her brother. "We've been very good mommy! Santa brought us lots of things."

Cannox seemed content where he was as well, though he leaned into the cool touch from his mother. Roshan babbled quietly and lifted her arm to wave at Saya, seeming to recognize her even with their sparse meetings before. "We've been good, like Kiana said. Kavi and I cleaned our room yesterday."

Turning around after her coat was off Ripley laughed at Milo. "Alright! No squishy little boys for us. Come on, we'll take these to Uncle Orion's house, okay?" She grabbed most of the gifts, leaving him with just a couple to carry. The short walk to the other house would be a bit brisk but she could manage it.

On his way back through Orion spotted the newcomers, smiling warmly at Kasari and Alana. "Need some help?" He gathered the rest of the gifts before ushering everyone back to Itzal's house so they could finish up some breakfast.

"Merry Christmas!" Cannox called back, peeping over the top of the couch with a grin. "Breakfast is almost done! Aunt Ripley can't eat all the rolls now."

Hand shaking slightly, Reed dabbed the last bit of icing on to the last roll and surveyed his work. Everything looked perfectly even--not a drop more on any one roll and no toddler mutiny on the horizon. He released the breathe he hadn't realized he'd been holding and smiled broadly at his work. Cadence, fresh cup of coffee in hand, strode over to cast an eye at the breakfast treats. Without so much as a warning snicker she reached out and ran her finger over one of the cinnamon rolls to take off a generous glob of icing.

"Missed a spot.", she said with a smirk as she moved on. The look on Reed's face became that of mild panic before the only thing he could think to do was to shove the 'mutilated' roll into his mouth and take off after Cadence before any of the kids truly noticed.

Kavi groaned a little that it wasn't time for presents yet, but he was happy enough to stay close to his mother while Orion brought the gifts back home. It had been like...years since mom had been home anyway. Saya leaned lightly into Orion's kiss, giving his back a tender rub as he moved away before placing a hand on Kavi's shoulder to go to her other children. She carefully placed herself next to Cannox and Roshan as Kavi clambered up onto her lap. Gita, meanwhile, was just as pleased to stay at the table and wait for her breakfast, She strongly disliked the relay that was the race to find a seat.

"That sounds like something very helpful, I'm sure your father appreciated you being such big helpers. Have you been enjoying the snow?"

Milo giggled, squirming out of Ripley's grip as she took away the bulk of the gifts he was carrying.

"But now you're squishing me!" He squealed as he took his final present and ran into the room where everyone else was waiting. Alana nodded warily to Saya. She knew the woman was in good graces with her uncle and Itzal...but she was still a stranger to the pre-teen. But she made the kids so happy now that she was back so she couldn't be that bad. She edged closer to the family reunion.

Kasari made her way carefully towards the kitchen, smiling shyly at the occupants. "Looks like breakfast is done, can I help you all serve it to the kids?"
