As an active volcano, few creatures venture near Nori for fear of being too close during an eruption. On most days there is a continuous slow flow of molten rock seeping through the mouth of the volcano, so travelers are advised to dress appropriately. (+2 to Endurance)

Rise of an Army (Self : M)

Postby Sarah » 01/03/2017 12:25 AM

Mousteg was not a town that could be found on many maps. The small town was hidden well within the southern Tuun mountains. Surrounding lore said that the town was founded by an opportunistic family and had sustained itself well enough to bring in outsiders. Farmland was almost nonexistent due to the lack of flat land, but the people made due with what they had, and relied on trading for food. They found that trading the gemstones and metals that were naturally found within the territory made them rich and passing visitors more likely to return.

Fell couldn’t say he’d been in the town before, although he had seen it in passing, while he’d been flying down to the volcano actually. It seemed inconsequential at the time, but as his week played out he found that his plans would be changing to incorporate little Mousteg.

Fell had been quite ambitious in his plans. He’d gone all the way to volcano territory in search of a Paragon egg. The creatures were incredibly powerful, and intelligent. The best and only way to train them was to steal them away as eggs and raise them from birth.

There were rumors of a large clan of Paragon living near the Nori Volcano, and Fell had found them. They were quite the handful too, very protective, and very well populated. He’d been lucky enough to find a nest in a seemingly abandoned cave. Who knew how long the eggs had been there, but they were still very alive.

There had been three eggs total, but Fell only had the courage to take one. There was a twinge of regret when he thought of the ones he’d left behind. Greed was not befitting of anyone so he tried to get over the loss. The egg he had taken was the most beautiful. Dark blues and black swam under the surface, and peach could be seen surfacing sometimes, the whole egg had an ethereal shimmer to it.

Fell had picked up the egg and retreated before and Paragon caught wind of him. He didn’t want to think about his fate should he have been caught.

Luckily he hadn’t been caught, and by the time the parents thought to come to the village to look he’d be long gone. Viola would be pleased with him. It hadn’t taken him long to carry out her orders this time. Such a promotion demanded that he worked quickly. Viola found it only too easy to kill off those that were of no use to her. How she had decided on Fell, though, was beyond him. Fell was not exactly the most outstanding member of her army, and he knew it.

Even still, he’d stole the egg as much for himself as he did for Viola. Now all that was left was the waiting.

Fell was great at waiting. Especially waiting somewhere far away from Viola and the other lords. He just wasn’t cut out for the expectations that they held for him. After being escorted out of Moustag by one of Viola’s messengers Fell settled down on the border of the Vast Plains. He felt it was still risky, should the clan go looking for their egg, but it was a calculated risk. There were no lords near the vast plain.

The privacy and neutrality of the territory would give him plenty of time to raise his Paragon into a warrior. Plus the chances of Viola finding him when the time came were lessened, or so Fell through.

Re: Rise of an Army (Self : M)

[Years Later]
Ibiz scrutinized the two eggs. They were almost identical, hyper-pigmented blues and purples with silver that seemed to lie in patterns just below the surface. “Give them to the riders,” he decided.

“But, sir,” the mother looked shocked, and crushed.

It was normal for their clan to have a wide range of colors, but the eggs before him just looked… wrong. They were sick, or bad omens, or something, and he would not allow them to stay in the clan. “It’s for the best if the riders take them,” he said calmly. “They’ve been demanding younglings for moons now. We have to protect the clan,” he continued. “It will be a great honor for them, to become fierce warriors or scholars in human society,” Ibiz tried to reassure the mother.

She only bowed her head at him, and then left the nesting room. Ibiz’s word was final, whether the mother’s liked it or not. It wasn’t often he had to send eggs away, and it wasn't something he liked to do. Sahza had taught him from a young age that this was a necessary evil in order for the clan to thrive.

With a sigh he picked up the eggs. They were warm and he knew the hatchlings inside were healthy, at least for now. He flew them to the nearest human village where the rider had promised he would be waiting.

And wait he had. As soon as Ibiz touched down the man was headed out to him. Ibiz held back his disgust at the hunger the man held when he looked at the eggs. They weren’t something one could just crack and turn into a nice omelette. They were intelligent creatures with as many years of history as any human.

“You finally delivered,” the man said. His voice was always cold, but it also held a mild interest. He eye’d the eggs and nodded in approval. “These’ll do just fine. Tell your clan that we won't be around for a long while,” he told the large Paragon. There was a long moment of silence, and he could see the Paragon was fighting some internal battle. “Do they have names?” he asked once the silence stretched on just a little too long. Maybe it would ease the poor beast’s worries if he appeared more human.

Surprise passed over Ibiz and then he shook his head. “Ketki, and Juhi,” he told the rider. His voice was so heavily accented he wasn’t sure the man even understood. It was the only gift he could give the little eggs. Ibiz could see his time was up. Reluctantly he handed over the two eggs. They looked almost too big for the man to carry, but he seemed to balance them in his arms with little effort. Ibiz kept reminding himself of the awful pigmentation, that those two would have had no place in the clan.
