As an active volcano, few creatures venture near Nori for fear of being too close during an eruption. On most days there is a continuous slow flow of molten rock seeping through the mouth of the volcano, so travelers are advised to dress appropriately. (+2 to Endurance)

“Do you think our paragon ever do that?” Lanette asked.

“I can’t see why not. Although I think the tribe gives most of us enough free time that we don’t have to sneak away,” Razza replied. If she were to have a need to eat a thousand pounds of berries she could probably do it without anyone missing her.

“I suppose. Maybe it’s the same for the little bird,” Lanette wondered.

“If only we could ask it,” Razza said a bit disappointed. “Maybe it lives alone?” she wondered.

“I doubt it,” Lanette said. “I’ve heard they are incredibly social animals. It would be hard for one to live by it’s lonesome,” she said. Her other basket was almost completely full. Lanette was a strong flier, at least she thought she was, so having the baskets full wouldn't be a problem.

“We should be heading back soon,” Razza said as they picked over another strand of brush. The sun was getting a bit low in the sky. The two of them had probably spent four hours picking berries. Razza didn’t even feel tired. They’d have plenty of time to drop everything off and rest before sundown. Razza promised herself that she would go to bed at a reasonable hour so she could get up early and maybe get with a bigger group. The northern orchards were supposed to be heavy with fruit.

The only problem with going to the orchards was how heavy the fruit there was. She was strong enough to carry two baskets, but the fruit there was a lot denser than berries. Still, she was sure if she asked she could tag along.

“You're right, I think this basket is full enough,” Lanette said once she finished the bush she was working on.

“This was a really good spot. I’ll have to let them know about it,” Razza said.

“Especially since we hardly made a dent in the berry supply,” Lanette agreed. “You take of first,” she instructed.

Razza did her best to take off evenly. Gods forbid she tip over one of the baskets. She’d have to give herself a thorough cleaning. She was always stained one color or another this time of year, but she hated all the dirt and juice staining her pretty scales. Once she was up in the air she waited for Lanette to join her.

“It should be a smooth ride home,” Lanette said happily. The wind wasn't supposed to be horrible, but it wouldn't be dead either. They’d get enough wind to help with flying, but not enough to tip them over or cause them to land. “If you need to rest let me know,” she added.

Razza nodded. She was a small thing, but she was determined to make it home without stopping. It wouldn’t be too hard.

The fly back was boring. Once they were out of the forest the ground turned to its same dull red and brown. Rocks were pretty much the only thing to be seen. Sometimes there was a lone serraptor, but nothing that ever caused worry. Lanette only changed their direction once, and it was to change from going straight north to northeast. Landing on the barren rock was not ideal, so when Razza began to feel fatigued she did her best to push on.

“Okay, we have to land,” Razza said at last. She’d done her best to be strong, and she knew they were almost home, but she felt as if she were going to collapse right then and there.

“Alright, There’s a little rise in the ground there,” she said pointing. “That’s where we’ll land,” she said. They descended quickly and Lanette couldn't see any predators around. The little rise gave her a good look at the surrounding area. It looked deserted, not even plants grew in the area. There wasn’t enough water to grow.

Razza Stretched her wings and paced. She just needed to get the cramps out of her wings. The buttes began rising in the distance, they were almost at the edge of their home. Razza was disappointed that she couldn't have made it just a little farther.

“Let me know when you’re ready,” Lanette said. She was still looking off into the distance. They hadn't run into any airborne predators which was great. Lanette had seen a few in the forest, but none came close to where they were harvesting. Over all she felt accomplished.

It wasn’t long before Razza was ready to take off again. They flew for only a few moments and they could see the mesa. It was a little silly that they had to stop, but Lanette understood why they did. Even so close to home it would have been bad it Razza had overdone it and hurt herself. The mesa was mostly empty, only a few hunting parties had returned. Lanette and Razza gave their baskets over to some of the storage paragon who had surfaced to help incoming parties.

Lanette had to go back under for another meeting, and Razza had disappeared with the baskets.

“She’s an odd placid,” she heard Gylles say. “So friendly, but it seems that she doesn’t really have any close friends,” he said.

Lanette wondered who the big paragon was talking to, and then she felt him beside her.

“What do you think?” he asked.

“Uh,” Lanette looked at him. “I think you’re right,” she said. “I don’t know if it’s because she is shy, or what,” she added.

“I know you’re a busy woman, but please keep an eye on her,” Gylles said.

Lanette nodded, she would do her best. Gylles dismissed her and she made her way down to the springs. Her claws were stained and her scales felt gritty. It wasn’t until she entered the water that she realized Gylles was suspicious of her. At first she had thought he was worried about her, but the more she thought on his words the more apparent it became that he mistrusted the placid. The thought was almost funny, that little placid was of no threat to the tribe.
