As an active volcano, few creatures venture near Nori for fear of being too close during an eruption. On most days there is a continuous slow flow of molten rock seeping through the mouth of the volcano, so travelers are advised to dress appropriately. (+2 to Endurance)

VanDarth's Origin [Nevermore and Pio]

Postby Pio » 11/15/2015 12:26 AM

Hydrisland, third island from the main island, main food source: fish. Gods and Dieties include Cinchalla Macha the Volcano God, Pachi Lipepi the Water Dragon Deity. Rightie-o then there's a volcano they throw sacrifices into and a dragon (or a dragon statue likely made of a rare metal or stone), sounded like his next stop alright. James Leer shoved his West sea map into his compositor pack on his belt. It vaccuum sucked the massive leather map up in a blink and his hands were once again free to adjust the sail on his tiny sailboat.
Black clouds were streaming lighting in the distance, looked like a sacrifice was likely on today's schedule. James grinned as the wind billowed his sail in it's direction, "here I co-ome!"

The ocean was a clear blue; the perfect water for any tropical island, however this islands erupting volcano had its effects on the water making it a dreary dark and ominous sea coast. These coasts were filled with many water beasts who used the underwater caves connecting to the erupting volcano as a home for their nests. The warm lava that filled the earth above made the water temperatures perfect for preserving their eggs.

This dreary water was no match for this well known beast, he was young and curios and a floating shadow had just passed him peeking his curiosity swimming closer to this dark figure he pressed the top of his nose and moved the object a little from its side.

James' boat rocked for a moment and he held his breath as he adjusted his balance and grip on the tiller.
He mumbled somehting about sharks to himself as his boat continued, he tightened the sail to encourage speed.
The island was still thirty minutes away even at his fastest, but looking behind and around him he didn't see any sharks peeking their dorsals so he had some hope that what ever it was moved on. The yellow-green glow of bobbing surface water was becoming blackened as he advanced to the island at his slow pace. James Leer sighed as he observed the white clouds above and the birds that flew away from the island. Didn't look like a good sign for the natives, maybe that volcanoe was really going to go off soon. It was hard to say if it would have a big out burst or just continue its regular drizzle into the sea. Fifteen more minutes before he'd reach the beach.

what a ludicrous title."
"Have you ever seen a black sunrise,
Mr. Speaks?"
"Precisely my point Mr...
What was it again?"

"Tiberius"
"Ah yes, well,
how does one suppose the light-giving sun should rise black?"
"Why would one suppose it refers to the sun?
Does the dawn not refer to the moment a new day is revealed?

"Indeed it does! Imagine it! A dawn of darkness! Asinine!"

The strange figure had no resemblance of the figures the villagers went out to sea with and that also puzzled him, perhaps this was some sort of tribute the small frail savage girl would be on to give him. Continuing to probe the figure back and forth giving the girl the hint he was there, but without any juicy meat offerings coming down below the water he grew even more curious. Poking his head out; averaging two horses worth of giant, he went up to investigate the ship. He found himself at tongues reach from probably one of the other fishermen from the village? Or perhaps he was the offering? His giant sharp razor teeth glinted slyly in the sunlight, a most gruesome seen for any oblivious traveler.

It was like demon waves were attacking his boat, maybe dolphins were playing tricks? Maybe a school of very large fish were going by? James swayed against his boat, trying to counter balance it as he loosened the sail to slow it a little, didn't need to aid a capsizing. His heart was in his throat, like any classic sailor, he didn't know as much about swimming as he should and there was one other problem... He didn't know if his compositor would try to drain the ocean dry. Then the rocking slowed as a slick moving sea creature reared its head from the water. He felt his brain do a back-flip at seeing the massive face of... no maybe it was a squid tentacle... no this was indeed a-- a--
His boat was still going forward and his head turned to keep his eyes on the beast.

This was a bleeding water dragon! True blue! Well, red, from what he could see.

Was it going to attack him or was it really just playing?

Holy Persates, the island really did have a blasted Dragon! It wasn't a statue after all!

James readied his hand next to his compositor just in case the creature did try anything more. He kept his share of weapons in his peculiar pouch.

No this was not that little girl, and they were definitely not one of the villagers; if the look wasn't a dead give away the smells surly were. Without an offering for the young pampered beast this sailor was not worthy of the sea he was currently sailing on. Dunking swiftly back into the depths of his home, he positioned himself in the direction of the boat and jolted like a missile quills from his head cutting through the top of the sea to expose his predator position to this naïve man.
He was the fastest and stealthiest beast that called this island home, but for now he would toy with his food. He hadn't needed to do such things in quite a while; since the villagers offered such lavished gifts, when they came back from their long fishing trips and before they went out to go fishing.
The one who catered to him, the girl, had always distracted him while their boats took to the sea and thus sharing their catches had calmed him from eating their people, and destroying their ships. He was going to make this catch, enjoyable.

When the dragon went back under, Mr. Leer got a terrible feeling in his gut, like sour molasis coming to a boil. There was a deep pitched vibration, a horrible pressure coming from the water that gripped his legs, like the massive thing was rushing around under water and then came the sound of cutting water. The clean constant sound of rushing fingers through the water. No, spikes, dragon spikes! The riping sound was coming from behind him, James pulled out a shoulder canon from what looked like thin air, propped his foot on the back of the boat's stern, the weight of the gun made the nose of the boat go up a bit. James aimed and shot a weighted rope-net at the dragon with a pop of smoke and a loud firing noise.
"Ain't no way yer takin' me out now yeh slimey over sized lizard!"he called as he fell back a little from the buck of the shot. The net fell heavy and fast on its target.

What a silly trivial tactic this sailor had no clue on how to  slay/stop a mighty beasts as he. Ripping the netting off with his sharply bladed talons, the rope tore like scissors to paper. Though the tactic had slowed him it was not distracting enough to escape him. Going deep under water again he prepped himself to lunge after the boat, but stopped when he noticed how close the small boat was getting towards the beasts island, perhaps just guiding him further to the island would end with a foreign snack later. Keeping his toy close and popping up now and then to scare the traveler away from certain escape routes but then sinking back into the water to not give his position away for too long; he was navigating the man towards the village, usually the villagers would end up giving him such visitors as offerings and now he need not waste energy on 'finishing' the job while dodging other potentially dangerous and harmful attacks this sailor might have up his sleeve.

James curled his lip as he watched the light thrashing before the dragon broke through. The bastard broke his net! It took his weeks of waiting for those obsessive guards to finish tying all those weights to the edges of that thing so he could steal it and then poof! Just like that, it was gone! Shoving his canon back in this pouch, he took a few arm strokes to pull out a long metal spear with a rigid two-angle blade, he used to get so nervous he'd grad it by the wrong end some day but he was getting more confident about how this contraption worked. In his haste the sudden quiet and lack of attack caught him completely by surprise. There was a sense of space away from danger now, though he still felt uneasy, James took a careful seat with his spear on his lap as he adjusted the rudder for a side cove he was spying. Almost immediately, the dragon's fiery red long neck appeared ahead in his path, almost threateningly, Jame chose to adjust the other way. That seemed to work for a while until the dragon appeared ahead once again. Soon James began to feel corralled straight to the lot of fishing ships and small docks that belonged to the village. So much for making an inconspicuous entry. James began to beach his small sail boat begrudgingly, but hesitant to step off the boat and clutching his spear and docking rope.

The island was massive, but the village was small and dainty, the jungle took most of the space around the village, but paths had been paved for both ways toward the Sacrificial site peering the Volcano and to the fishermen docks. Her hands and feet had many cuts and bruises all over them, her hair was in tangled knots that only reached her shoulders unwashed and almost moldy looking. She had no parents and the villagers  had named her Taka meaning trash. She had the duties of offering the sacrifices; being animal or human, to Pachi Lipepi the Water Dragon Deity. Being so dangerous and known to eat villagers it was yet another great job tasked to the Taka of the village. For who cared if she died to him, what an honorable sacrifice she would give the villagers upon her death.
She was standing in front of the dinning hut hoping to catch any leftovers heading towards the trash, for this is how she survived; off the leftovers/scraps of the other villagers. As one of the main fishermen were finishing his plate and had many glorious crumbs and pieces of fish left over on the plate she was smiling of glee to potentially filling her stomach from the long week without such a great break through, but sadly the fishermen scoffed at her and passed her by "You deserve no leftovers straight from my plate" his greasy well fed mouth muttered right before dumping everything off his plate on the ground outside the hut in front of the dogs. The Taka leaped for the remains before the dogs could scruff it all down, getting bit and stepped on by the dogs she shoved a few remaining pieces of fish and bread crumbs in her mouth.

Walking unevenly through the sand, James found the mid ground that lead to the beaten trail. There was thin beach grass clumping and giving his feet a better grip and his speed picked up. Trying to be calm in case any locals saw him was only making a shiver crawl up his spine. That dragon didn't have land legs right? How big was it exactly? The water was so dark...
The island was dusted lightly with ash, even the beach looked grey. The air couldn't be good, not that James was thinking about this. There were people walking around quite a bit in a small shaded square. The buildings seemed to be made out of red clay and palm fronds, the walls hardly stood five to six feet tall, the windows were crudely sculpted to resemble awkward squares. Some homes even had primitive porches with covers and there seemed to be food stalls and cooking huts. Being that he was forced to beach so locally and was too scared to stash his boat (which would have been ideal because he then could have just reentered the ocean from the other side of the island away from the dragon) he figured his cover was quite blown and might as well just walk around openly and see about getting the locals to handle their dragon for him so he could leave. Maybe pick up some food while he was here. He could hear some chatter in the cooking hut and there seemed to be dogs gathered to the side of the small building, there appeared to be a pitiful child among the dogs but one became used to scenes like this with island cultures. He approached the hut with the intent of purchasing what ever he was smelling and to discuss controlling their dragon, and this was just what he did..

The fisherman who had so graciously shared his leftovers with the Village Taka was now back in the hut returning his dirty dishes, then returning outside to begin the last bit of his day. Lunch time was over and preparing tonight's sacrifice was the villages next priority. Soon the Taka would have to take the giant Fishermen's basket full of the finest catch of the day to satisfy their Deity.  As the fishermen was beginning to walk away from the disgusting sight of the Taka he bumped into a foreigner who some how survived their island protector; for now that was a good omen for the Villagers, for now they would treat him as one of their own. "We welcome you! Brave traveler, Travel? Welcome!!" He knew small English words for being a great tradesmen, he pumped his open chest his body tough as a wrestler brought up like so to catch the biggest fish from the sea belly bulging and big for being well known and successful. He wore a giant smile as though welcoming his son back from a very proud catch to the traveler before him. Not many trades ship venture to the coast in fear of their Deity.

Overwhelmed by the large greeting from this large islander, James Leer didn't know exactly how to respond and so just went along with it with a slime and awkward laughing and patting the large man's arm. He did figure that the language barrier would make communicating his situation very hard. He stepped back with an excited expresion to catch his attention, looking to his own hands, James tried to make a hand gensture that resembled a dragon biting. Hopefully this man would catch on that he was asking baout their diety and not if he could have a dog. He could have sworn he was hearing surrounding onlookers saying "Pachi Lipepi" and he nodded over his shoulder at the random directions he was hearing the name from, "yes! yes! Pachi Lepeepee!" he mis prounounced the name but hoped they understood.

The fishermen looked up towards the sun ignoring his guest, "(It's almost time,) EEH! Takka!" The fishermen yelled at towards the girl, she brushed the dirt from her knees and got up awkwardly and obediently walking up to the older man. "(go down to Pachi Lipepi, it is time!!)" he slapped the top of the girls head in the direction she needed to head in for the Deity.
She lost balance and fidgeted to regain it after he hit her "AY" her soft voice came out as tears filled her eyes and almost breaking through to pour down her cheeks, holding them back and trying to head in the direction of Pachi Lipepi the fisherman grabbed her by her tattered clothing of mostly; rags, and sack bags she scavenge from the village trash. He then yelled at her for speaking in his presence, after beating her with a few more hits to the stomach and cheeks he let her go to fulfill Pachi Lipepi  sacrifices. With blood pouring from her nose and mouth she cradled her stomach as she tried to drag herself towards Pachi Lipepi.

James' enthused face fell into disbelief as he watched the small child take heavy hits from this massive man; hits James Leer himself wouldn't have stood up from right away. He had to swallow down his own cultural opinions as her small weak frame struggled to whatever duties she was being so savagely forced to. There is always someone at the top and someone at the bottom of a culture's status. He knew who the bottom was now, but was this fisherman the top dog here?  The black clouds from the volcanoe came back to his memory and James slyly pulled some gold coins from his bottomless tiny pouch, "Hey!" he tapped the fisherman's shoulder and pointed to the volcanoe that could be seen over the huts as he solftly shook the coins in his loose fist trying to suggest that he wanted to pay tribute to their volcanoe god. If the poorest person had to feed the water dragon, the richest likely was in charge with the most powerful thing on this island (and also, least dangerous of the two). Surely if there was anything to gain out of this, it would be with the volcanoe god rituals.
