The forest was alive with noise. Birds called from high up in the canopy, their songs melding into a chaotic chorus. This din was occasionally pierced by the sharp calls of some sort of canine to the southwest. The air was thick and damp, filled in places with insects. More bugs crawled along the ground and on the trees in all shapes and sizes, too many varieties to be named. If ever there was a place to frighten those who detested the outdoors, this was it.
