Whispers in the Woods (Open)

Postby Pyris » 03/10/2016 4:34 PM

With a start, Hexle saw Serra begin to press into the wall.  He lunged as she began to be pulled into it, a light surrounding the pair and blinding him.  His paw brushed up against something, but it was strange... warm.. It was wood.  His paw was pressed up against something made of wood.

Moisture filled his nose, and he looked about, despite still being fairly blinded by the light. The ground was damp, but much to warm to be stone.  The entire area smelled of greenery.  His only conclusion was that he couldn't possibly be in the Caverns anymore.  So where was he?

As the white spots clouding his vision began to fade, he took in his surroundings.  A thick fog clung to the ground like a misty blanket.  Sunlight filtered through the canopy of thick trees and it felt as though he could almost hear someone whispering in his ears.

He was in the Whispering Forest.  How?

Hexle, the Concept Draculi
Only the moral have guilt.

Birds chirped overhead as Hexle felt his paws sink slightly into the moistened ground.  So he knew he was in the Whispering Forest, but not where in it.  It did not bode well for him to be in such a situation.  One who walked into the Forest needed a plan, and he had not had one, since he hadn't intended to be there.

He wasn't even sure which direction to begin in to head home, let alone find Serra Liune back in the Criass Caverns.  Just how, exactly, had the runes on the wall put him here, anyway?

With so many questions, Hexle wasn't sure where to start.  He supposed he should at least find out which direction to move in, so he eyed the tree in front of him, looking for the best method to climb it.

((I reeaaaallly wanted to join Hexle, he sounds awesome! Yet, all the best characters wouldn't be in Whisper Forest, haha. I'll give this one a shot, though she doesn't talk or anything. If it's not working well, I'll find another character to join in. c: ))

Kanegoto (Kane)

The little cat had been wandering around for some time, seemingly aimlessly. How on earth she'd gotten here, one could never know. (Well, she actually followed some spirit and got lost but it's not like anyone would know that.) In a manner typical of a cat, she'd set off as if she were headed somewhere in particular, only to change her mind and start out in a different direction. She'd change directions a few times and then suddenly stop and groom herself. (You know, they say that cats groom themselves when they're feeling embarrassed or nervous.)

Nonetheless, for some inexplicable reason, Kane found herself high up in a tree. Blinking her wide eyes slowly, she looked around and inhaled deeply. (Was that a sigh?) Flicking her two tails about in inconvenienced annoyance, she looked down. She couldn't see the ground through the foliage, but the ground was down there, so she crouched down and jumped.

Just as the ground came into view, so did some blur of a...thing? In a spectacular feat of feline acrobatics, Kane had flung herself sideways, in midair, to land as a puffed up little ball of fur. For a moment, she stared at this concept creature before her and blinked. Finally, in a sudden and jerky movement, she sat down and began frantically licking her fur. An odd purring sound arose, but for those who could hear it, it seemed to be in their minds rather than coming from her physical form.
You can pretend that when you hear my voice, darling, it's your choice not to fall in.

But it's all an act, 'cause I know exactly what you're wanting. You know it's what I'm wanting

Boy I know what you desire, oh, you're such a bad, bad liar

((Sorry about the delay, work tends to eat my life on occasion. XD  I'm totally cool with a less than chatty kitty.  I'd imagine Hexle will find it rather pleasant, himself.  He doesn't like the nattering types.  ^.^))

There was a rather sudden rustling of leaves, and then a blob of black and white fur fell past Hexle's face.  Blinking, he glanced down, surprised when round, golden eyes stared back at him.  The moment was brief before the other creature began cleaning itself as though it were an urgent need.  There was a noise then, faint, and floating, as if not quite there.

It  would seem this thing before him was a little unique. The noise became a little louder, identifiable as a purr, but it was off.  He knew that it could only be coming from her, but it didn't seem to be in the same realm as her body was.  Certainly unusual.

"...."  He wasn't sure what she was.  She was a bit smaller than him, smelled female, but was definitely feline in nature.  He tilted his head to the side, mulling her over before deciding to speak.

"I don't suppose you saw anything useful in that tree?" he asked simply, completely disregarding all the potentially abnormal things about their random encounter.

((OH my gods! I am so sorry! I didn't even realize how long it's been! If you don't want to continue, that's fine, but if you do, I'm totally willing.))

Kane had stopped grooming herself and the unearthly purr had faded. She now sat there staring at the stranger with the kind of unwavering gaze only a cat could manage. The only thing proving she was still alive was the rise and fall of her fur as she breathed. Even after the stranger had asked a question, Kane continued to stare for an uncomfortable amount of time. Finally, her gaze floated up to the tree she had come down from and slowly blinked. Slowly, it floated back to land on the concept and the strange purr started up again.

Oh yes, this cat was going to be lots of help.

((!!  I was actually just thinking about this rp and wondering if you were busy.  XD  I'm happy to continue with  you!  ^.^))

Hexel watched the smaller creature as she dazedly looked up into the tree, then back at him.  Purring flitted through his mind, swirling in the halfway plane, but not into 'reality.'

He was pretty sure she was just happy to not be alone at this point.

Sighing, he stretched his limbs to ensure his strange warp into the forest hadn't left him stiff.  "I'm going to take that as a 'no'," he murmured more to himself than to his new companion.  He glanced around, sniffing the air in the hopes that something would give him any clue as to which direction he should head.

His tail twitched; he didn't like being unsure of his situation.  Creatures wandered here.  With another huff, he decided to pick instead at random, stepping forward before pausing to look back, curious as to whether or not the small feline creature would follow.

The cat blinked slowly again as her new company muttered to himself. One of her tails twitched slightly at her side and Kane looked down at it absently. Slowly, in her relaxed fashion, she lifted one paw and put it on the white tipped tail to keep it still. Having done so, she returned her gaze to Hexel just as he started off in some seemingly random direction.

As he walked away, Kane's eyes followed him without actually looking at him, in the fashion that cats often do. Then she looked in another direction, staring at nothing as her ears twitched around. Eventually, she looked warily in Hexel's direction, ears flicking in uncertainty before she popped up and trotted off after him as if she'd meant to do so the entire time.

((Sorry about  the delay; I was on vacation without my computer.  ^.^u))

The forest was damp and had a barely perceptible mist clinging to the ground.  As his paws lifted from the soil, whips of it would follow, floating up from the earth like a ghost.  The cat seemed to make up her mind and trailed after him so he continued forward, wondering how he'd ended up there in the first place.  Hexel's wings twitched with the breeze, lines of sketched fur swaying with his movements.

"We're going to need some form of communication," he said quietly, mostly to himself.  He wondered if she understood him enough to even answer a question if he'd asked.  Occassionally he glanced over his shoulder to ensure she was still there.  Her silence was relatively calming, but unnerving at the same time.

She was a very curious creature.  He'd never encountered anything of her sort.  His ears thought he caught the rustling of leaves, so he crouched low, ears flat as his eyes roamed the area.  Remembering his company, his tail bristled slightly and he hoped she would cautious as well.

The Whisper Forest was a dangerous place.

Kane watched the concept's back unwaveringly the entire time they walked. Every now and again, an ear flicked away, only to promptly return to its forward position. Both ears perked slightly as she picked up the stranger's voice. Almost in response, her eerie purring started up again.

Right as Hexel picked up the sound of rustling, something else caught Kane's gaze. She'd somewhat noticed the sound, evidenced by one ear aimed in that general direction, but didn't seem to care. She kept trotting forward as her stranger stopped, ignoring his warning sign. Though, she passed close enough to brush her fur against his now in a slightly possessive manner, as if to clarify my stranger. (Yes, it was her stranger now. Cats are weird.)

Regardless, she continued to wander forward and stopped just short of where the sound was coming from. She sat down and with her tails waving gently, stared at the almost invisible wispy figure floating over the bush. It was doubtful that even her strange stranger could see it. It was also not the thing making the noise.

(I didn't forget.  I've just been busy busy.  >.>)

Hexel stared at the small thing in disbelief as she wandered over to some kind of whisp.  It was nearly transparent for him.  He obviously knew she'd likely be able to see such things if she could see him, but it the way she reacted to it was rather... strange.  Ultimately, he'd already decided she was just a generally unusual cat.

A crunch made his focus revert back to the noise before as he crept towards it.  To his surprise a Luplora leapt from the underbrush, twitching its nose at nothing in particular before bounding away into the mist.  With a sigh, he relaxed.  He stepped closer to Kane, trying to get a look at what she was looking at.

((Ah, ok. It's fine, I understand :) Sorry for bothering you!))

Little kitty Kane was staring intently at her wispy figure. As it drifted a little one way, then the other, Kane's head followed the movement exactly. She looked away distractedly only when the leplora ran off, but quickly snapped right back to the wisp. Not even blinking, she licked her teeth in a way that felt like one licking their lips in anticipation. She attempted to hide it by finishing in a yawn.

A single ear twitched briefly toward her stranger as he moved closer, but otherwise, Kane was completely still. Suddenly, she pulled herself up in a soundless crouch. Slowly, carefully, paw by paw, she crept towards her wisp in what could only be called a hunter's prowl.

Hexel watched the smaller creature prowl towards the wisp, more amused than concerned.  He settled down a comfortable distance behind them, wondering if she'd actually be able to catch it.  His tail swayed lazily behind him, having no reason to be particularly concerned.

The wisp was hard to see, but upon focusing seemed less watery and transparent.  He couldn't quite make it out, meaning it was one of those rare creatures that lived mostly beyond their worlds.  They were rarely found in the world or the in-between.

Everything happened quite quickly when Kane pounced. It was a series of events that even her stranger would find quite surprising, if not confusing. For a moment, the small cat hung in the air - quite literally, as her claws sank into the nothingness of the wisp. In that same moment, the wisp appeared to resemble a shocked person before it whipped around to try and dislodge the nuisance. Unfazed, Kane clung on, swaying with the movement. It's unclear exactly how the situation ended. The little kitty's mouth opened and the wisp seemed to warp and shrink, suddenly disappearing a moment later.

Kane fell to the ground and landed daintily. Promptly, she sat down and licked off her claws contentedly. When she looked up, however, she was licking her lips as if she'd eaten something not entirely pleasant. She seemed simultaneously satisfied and unsatisfied.

Pulling herself back on her paws, she trotted back over to her stranger. Sitting down just out of his reach (as cats usually do), she stared up at him expectantly. The ghostly purring started back up yet again.

[71]

Hexel cocked his head to the side as the small, dark cat seemingly consumed the ethereal figure.  Something nagged at the back of his mind.  A myth, perhaps, about a ghastly being who hunted those who did not belong.  He thought that this creature probably wasn't as malevolent as the stories that were portrayed about the mythical being he'd heard of.  "Right," he said amusedly, wondering about the curious feline that he'd encountered.

He took a whiff of the air before moving forward once again.  The mist that clung to the ground made the area humid.  Finding his way out of the Whisper Forest was going to be difficult.... maybe even impossible.  He supposed it would make sense to keep food and water in mind as they moved through the forest. "Do you know where the river is?" he asked his companion, not sure how long she'd been in the forest.

Kane wandered along behind her stranger with a vacant expression. She veered a little one way before her ears flicked to the other side and she veered in that direction to absently bat at an old leaf. She wandered along ahead of it before suddenly lurching herself backwards to pounce on it again. In an imaginary scuffle, she spun and flipped and flopped, the leaf fluttering around her flailing paws.

Just as suddenly as she had started, she stopped and launched herself after her stranger. She fell into step behind him, her mussed up fur the only indication that anything untoward had occurred. After a moment, she looked up at him as if she had realized he had asked a question. She looked about, seeming to be thinking. Pulling ahead of him, she sat down hard and frantically groomed her dishevelled fur. After a second, her ears twitched and she looked off in some direction.

Darting off into the underbrush, she disappeared from her stranger's sight. A second longer, and her ghostly purring echoed out, followed by a distinctive mew. If Hexel followed her, he'd find her sitting proudly by a small creek. It was definitely not a river, by far, and she obviously just happened to find it; but nonetheless, she had found water for her stranger. This was a kitty proud of herself.

Hexel glanced at the antics of his unusual companion, amused at her antics.  She followed him almost as though it were a whim, and when he supposed it dawned on her that he'd spoken, she seemed a little disoriented.

He followed here, regardless, when she leapt into the underbrush, albiet at a more careful pace.  She sat by a small creek.  He knew she'd probably found it more by coincidence than familiarity with the forest, but was pleased just the same.  He dropped a paw on her head, mussing up a tuft of fur before taking a few sips from the creek himself.

When he was finished, he glanced back over to her.  "It's not a river, but if we follow it upstream, we're sure to find one.  If we keep following it, we'll probably find the way out, too," he reasoned aloud, not exactly expecting a verbal response in return.  The creek looked big enough to house some small fish.  If he could fashion a net, they'd have at least something akin to fish fries to eat.  When they reached the river, hopefully there would be larger inhabitants in it.
