It was a bitter cold winter and Alexandria missed the warm palace that her family had called home not too long ago, but long gone was both the castle and her family. She was all that was left.

"Dex?" she asked, looking around.

A blue flame hovered near and she knew it was him.

"Dex, I'm cold," she said simply.

"It won't be long now," said Dex. "Just a little further."

Alexandria liked the impression her paws left in the snow and the crunch the snow made under her feet. At least, she did on most days. Today was different. She wouldn't be building snowmen or making snow angels. Her father wouldn't be around for her to have snowball fights with.

He wasn't dead. At least, Alexandria believed him to be alive. It had been three weeks since her father went in search of gaining peace with a neighboring kingdom. He had yet to return.

After two weeks of Alexandria's father being away the people started to get restless. They needed a ruler and Alexandria was not prepared. When she refused the position she was cast from the palace and forced into normalcy. It wasn't a large palace because it wasn't a large kingdom, but still it was home. Alexandria longed to go home.
