Welcome to the Dead Coast, home to the world's largest bucket of salt! Located nearest the Re'nee Sea, this small port-city is home for all opportunists who would gather the sea's salt deposits left on the shores and sell them for profit. (+2 to Endurance)

The Perfect Dish [Self][Finished]

The large Battleheart had taken on a human form today to comb the beach. Light orange hair adorned him, blue eyes peeking out from it, combing over the exposed sands. There were plenty of things he could use here aside from the salt, though that was what he really wanted, and was here for.

A small bucket was slowly filling with the salt now, another on his other side having a few odd shells, though he seemed a bit dissatisfied with those. This wasn't anything like Jawan, there weren't any crustaceans peeking from the sand, nor anything washed up on the beach. A little disappointing, but this was the best salt in the land.

After a few minutes of combing the beach Kinaed chuckled softly to himself, looking at the half-bucket of salt. "Hm. Wonder if I need more of that. Hm. It will be a long time before I get back here." A few more moments of pondering before he stretched out, pulling the odd shells out of the one bucket and throwing them back to the sea.

"Two buckets should last me for a while." He finally decided, smiling to himself.

It was a few hours before he got enough salt to call it good, wiping his brow and taking a short sit on the dock. "Whew." He murmured, looking at the salt. All sorts of colors, a bit of black, pink, and white. It needed to be cleaned up a bit, refined... But it was good salt.

Briefly he dipped his finger into the bucket and licked it, giving a grin. "This will make the best dishes they've ever seen... Even Citanul, the planar traveler!" He grinned happily.

Standing once more with his buckets Kinaed carefully lashed them together and shifted back to his dragon form, scooping them up in his claws to carry home. Today had been a great day for his collection, and he'd be back tomorrow for some fresh fish! Ooh, now what kind... Snapper, or Yellowfin...

Licking his maw unconciously, the Battleheart flew at top-speed to get the salt home and start his journey back.

--Two days later--

Well, it had taken some time. But, the salt was finished! The Battleheart landed easily onto the salty shore and stretched himself out from the long flight. Time for fishing... But which form? He pondered for a few moments before going out on one of the large docks to look into the waters, seeing what the fish were like today. It was overcast and rather dreary - but a perfect day for fishing with their sluggish ways.

With them in deeper waters, he knew he could dive in and easily catch what he needed. Kinaed launched himself from the dock and just barely skimmed the water as his bright eyes watched the waves beneath him. Shifting to his right he suddenly flew up and dived, returning to the surface moments later with a large swordfish clutched delicately in his maw.

Snorting out some water he shook his head a bit, keeping a grasp on the flailing fish. Teeth-marks wouldn't do... He just shifted it to his claws, easily holding it as he made his way home. Fresh fish for dinner.

Once at home the real magic could begin.

Swordfish delicately scaled and cleaned, he added tarragon, basil, and lemongrass along with the sea salt and fresh peppercorns to a wax paper pouch to put into the oven, a pat of butter melting onto it as the oven heated everything inside.

Fresh greens from the garden were chopped. Arugula, baby spinach, lavender, and radish greens all mingled in with cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, slivers of onion, and celery hearts. A squeeze of lemon, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, and ground pepper topped it all off.

The quick work of Kinaed's hands was beautiful. Much like an intricate ballet, chopping, slicing, seasoning, and the careful presentation of all of this masterpiece.

Wild long-grained rice boiled with heartier herbs, garlic and bay leaves, as the fish cooked in the oven.

A quick round of dishes done before he pulled each pouch from the oven, letting them cool slightly before plating it up. A bit of everything, rice, fish, and salad, adorned each plate, a glass of water at the side. Why ruin such a perfect dish with the wrong drink?

Waiting patiently, Kinead glanced to the clock. They would be here soon for this wonderful dish.

It wasn't long before the Planeswalker was walking in the door, pulling off his heavy cloak and giving a soft chuckle. He could always tell when Kinaed had been cooking, the house away smelled so delicious when he came home.

Pulling off his shoes as well he came to sit at the table with the Battleheart, giving a brief grin. "All this work for me?"

"Why not?" Kinaed smiled happily. "You haven't been here in months! You deserve to eat more than trail rations and restaurant food. All this came from the farm! And the ocean, I suppose." Another soft laugh came from his maw.

They both dug in, enjoying the meal even in silence. There was no better company than an old friend for a hot meal.

Both fed and the dishes done, Citanul sat down with the Battleheart (albeit very small), curled up on his lap. He stroked the twisted horns lightly and looked to the orange haze that the sunset was casting into the room.

"I will try to be home more often, Kinead. You know how my travels go... Maybe next time I will bring someone to be here on the Farm with you." He looked to the orange Battleheart, stroking his chin lightly. "Would you like tha
t?"

"Very much so, Cita. It is awful lonely, even with everyone in the fields."
