The small auburn female managed to get out of the pile and struggle around in the blankets, squeaking loudly in distress. Orion's expression softened as he reached over, softly picking her up and cradling her into his arms, stroking down her back. She immediately seemed fine, curling into him and settling down.

Itzal rolled his eyes slightly. "I didn't notice you until I had already shut the door, Orion doesn't like the door open. And no. I don't particularly like to bring home strays."

Orion just sighed, but nodded and started to tell the story now that he had his daughter close, and the rest of the puppies were good with Saya. "Well. The last concert, at that bar, I had went out for a cigarette after we were done. And Saya yelled at me to put it out, and I saw that she was hurt. So I brought her inside and we had dinner, and I cleaned her up. They had put something sharp in her hips to keep her from shifting - she's not always a wolf, Itzal - and the cuts were really deep." He paused as he gently stroked the auburn pup again, while she shifted around, nosing into the crook of his elbow.

"We spent a few days together, and she found me this morning, and I had to take her to the vet for the puppies."

"So, they're your puppies?" Itzal asked after a moment of watching Orion with the oddly colored one, glancing to Saya. "I thought you were sterile?"

"....Uhm... Me too?" Orion asked, blushing a bit though also mildly proud. He loved the pups, no matter what.

Saya snickered as she rested her head on the raised edge of the nest. "This stray is a pedigree military experiment, thank you very much." She grumbled, though the look her on face was still a stark mixture of weariness and playfulness. She listened to Orion tell their story, finding it oddly sweet of him to remember so many details for a non-spy. The auburn and cream pups curled against her, making contented sounds as they nuzzled into her side.

"And you just so happen to have caught me on a bad day. I can't shift back until things from these little ones is back to normal. Too much change to the organs." She reclined a little more, mindful of where the black pup was as she got more comfortable. "I was supposed to be sterile as well, though it would appear that my escape broke whatever they had been using to keep things baby-free."

Her eyes were still fixed on Itzal--watching for any sign that he was going to slink out of this room to betray his friend. "But you should see me when I'm human. You wouldn't be questioning your boy's choices then." Instead of a wink she offered a flash of teeth in a wide grin, chuckling a little as she did so. She had to keep him on his toes--she'd strike him down again if he posed a threat.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

The little black pup seemed content next to his siblings, squeezing in close to his mother and yawning widely. Orion moved for a moment to lay the littlest next to their siblings. She squeaked loudly for a few moments before settling in to nurse, seeming to be perturbed to be set down.

Orion shrugged a little, but nodded to Saya's explanation. It was true. They were both supposed to be sterile, and yet... Here were four tiny miracles. No one knew what their future may hold, but neither parent should care. He certainly didn't, even if they never could shift to be human. He could still share all of their firsts. They would still have names, and personalities, and all of the love he could give them.

"Oh, I'm sure. You have to be a looker, Orion doesn't take anyone to bed unless he's had six shots of whiskey." Itzal grinned back at Saya. Perhaps they could get along now that she wasn't trying to kill him. He had no intentions of turning her in - especially if Orion liked her. He was open and comfortable, anyone could see that.

Saya grinned a little as the pups settled back in for a quick meal, her eyes roving over to the pitcher of water Orion had nearly dropped a few minutes ago as the take out sitting beside it filled her more sensitive nostrils. Well, now she was hungry too. Oh well, company first right? She'd nearly had a rocker for dinner. At Itzal's next remark she seemed to relax even more--someone who could return her snark was always a worthy opponent. She liked the guy instantly.

"Then I suppose I should be flattered, a sober encounter and all," she said with a look over to Orion. It was becoming clear now--though she had never really doubted before--just how much this man did like her. It was disheartening--if only because she knew she could never be what he wanted them to be. "...Though I really didn't give him much choice in the matter. Proper 'thank you' for harboring an escaped experiment and all."

At Itzal's laugh Orion just gave a half-hearted glare. They knew one another well enough to take this all in stride, but it was an odd situation. To say the least, that was. "I didn't need a thanks. It was the right thing to do." He offered, though he couldn't truly complain. He had enjoyed his time with Saya, and liked to think she had done the same.

Itzal merely nodded, watching the pups with some interest. "A proper thank you, sure. Well. This is the last show before our tour ends and we go home. I'm assuming Orion wants to buy the house next to mine, which means I'll be saddled watching little puppies until they can shift their forms?"

"Uhm. If they can. We're not sure?" Orion looked to Saya for some reassurance on that.

"Mmm. Either way, I'm fine with that. I can talk to you about the song later, it's not a huge deal." Itzal stood, stretching slightly and looking to Orion fondly. "Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me, and I'll help however I can."

"Thanks." Orion smiled warmly as Itzal left, careful to shut the door behind him.

"Don't be so modest," Saya said as she turned her head towards him. She didn't need to remind him of just how deep of trouble he could find himself in if anyone learned about him. Her own method of thanking him paled in comparison to what he should have received as thanks for taking such a blind leap of faith to aid and hide her. Her gaze flickered back to Itzal as he spoke. She still found it a little unnerving that he accepted all this so easily, as had Orion, but what did she know of the life of a rock star. Perhaps they had seen and heard of much stranger things than this.

"They should be able to. They're half human, half shifter after all--so mostly human DNA should be present. It's a matter of how fast they can learn since they're not pure shifters. But then again, I'm the only one I know of...so this has never been documented before." The military had other experiments that she could hear talking, roaring, something crying through the walls of her cell, so she knew there were others. But given her number she'd been given, not too many had been deemed 'keepers'.

The wolf-formed shifter only offered a nod of her head to Itzal as he left, turning her attention back to Orion. "Well, that's one way to meet your friends. Maybe next time he'll be a little more careful before he bursts into your room."

Someday they'd have to tell Saya about all of their misadventures. Orion was sure she would hear about what had happened with Itzal's brother, and why he was so very protective of his son now. It was a story for another time though.

"I doubt that." Orion shook his head with a small smile as he picked up the water and food again, moving to offer some to Saya first. He was hungry, but her needs went before his right now. "He has no concept of someone not wanting to see him. But I'm glad you met him, I told you he'd be okay with this." It would take some getting used to, but he didn't seem opposed to helping find them a safe home.
