They weren't going to be able to hide in the hotel forever. Eventually the demanding squeaks would get louder and they would no longer be safe. Saya was already thinking--carrying them within her had been so easy when faced with the thought of dragging around 4 children with her. It would be impossible, they would slow her down and place everyone at risk. Children weren't made for living on the run...

She watched Orion's gesture--making the nest for the pups, the way he touched each. He loved them already and she was analyzing them as risks. Her face was rather solemn for a moment as she looked to Orion when he spoke. She held onto silence for a long time, weighing her words and the repercussions of them carefully. Everything was too fresh in terms of emotions to break spirits too quickly...but she had to. This thing...was never meant to end like this. With a family. She had to cut the 'happy home' image from his mind now.

"...You know I can't stay..." She began, watching him carefully for his reaction. "Eventually they will find me, and the longer I stay in one place the faster that will happen. I can't let them find me...or the children. I'll stay as long as I can--feed them as long as they are pups and I am able. This can't be forever."
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

Of course a small part of him knew this. That Saya wasn't meant to stay and they couldn't truly have a family, not really. He really didn't want to tie her down like that either. It would only make her hateful, wouldn't it? To tie her to a life that she didn't want.

Nodding a little Orion sighed, softly keeping the puppies into their little nest, rubbing their backs and keeping them calm. "I... I know. But I have a home. Or, I will have a home. We'll be safe until they're weaned, but you'll... Come back to visit us, won't you?"

It hurt truly, to think that she wouldn't ever see him or their kids again. There was always a risk with coming back to the same place, but she could cover her tracks. If just for a few hours to see them. "I'll keep them safe. Itzal will be close, and he loves kids, he'll help me."

The family was unexpected, but not entirely unwanted. Being told your entire life you would never have one and never having a meaningful relationship kind of put a damper on ones desires and thoughts of families, she supposed. She'd never imagined herself as a mother much less paired with anyone like Orion either. War lords, guerrilla fighters, spies...she'd been romantically linked with them all. Never a drummer in a band, never an ex-nurse, never someone would willingly stood by her side rather than trying to kill her when they found out what she was.

"They will be safe, with you. There is no safety if I stay..." She paused, looking away from him for a minute. She knew what she should do--she should leave and never return. It would be best for everyone. But..."I will come back, as often as I can."

She could make sure there were some sighting of her, far away from his home, to keep her hunters on the wrong path while she visited. It would be a challenge, but what good was her training for if she didn't make use of it? She could make this work...somehow.

While he had meaningful relationships before Orion had never expected to have a family. After the chemotherapy when he was a small child it was impossible, wasn't it? That was what every doctor had said, and yet here he was, with quadruplets at that. It was something he never knew he had wanted until Saya had shown back up, and he had seen them, held them in his hands.

"Maybe not safety like that... But all kids need their mom, even if you can't be there all the time." It would make him feel better to know that she was okay, that he could do some small thing in keeping her safe. "And if they do... If they are shifters too, I'm going to need help." He didn't know the first thing about teaching them, and they needed to know how to blend in with society eventually.

Saya watched him as he talked--analyzing, assessing, everything that might let her give this man some ounce of empathy. She had come in like a tornado and ripped his usual life into shreds those short nights they had spent together...and then she had come back to finish the job by dumping an entire litter of children on him. She could feel his plight, even if she couldn't see a way to help him.

"I'll be here. If they can shift, I will be here to teach them. They'll have to be able to control themselves or they will become targets too." She sounded cold and militarist--though her eyes held a sorrow to them amidst the weakness and weariness. "Your friend Itzal...what will you tell him? How safe of an asset is he?"

Orion had spoken of Itzal before, but she had to be sure. Orion had to understand the gravity of the situation.

At the very least Saya had good timing. The band was taking a break, and he could settle down with the kids. Despite being a rocker he didn't 'live the lifestyle', and had plenty of money saved up. It was sure to go pretty quick with little ones but once they were going to school he could take up a part-time nursing job again. Anything to take care of them, and Saya when she was with him.

Though he nodded in agreement Orion wouldn't be quite so harsh on his kids. Of course they would need to learn, but hopefully they could control it easier if they could shift. "Itzal is my best friend." It was the immediate thing that came to mind, though he elaborated after a moment.

"We grew up together, his brother practically adopted me too. We tell each other everything. I can trust him with this, Saya, and so can you. He won't turn you or the kids in. He'll help me when you can't be there, he raised Reed, and he turned out fine. ....He'll probably think it's weird, but he's a good man."

Saya was sure her finances had been frozen as soon as she escaped, but she was no slacker when it came to getting her own means of living. She'd been specially trained to be adaptive and quick-thinking after all, the life of a spy was never predictable. Sadly, neither was family. She narrowed her eyes a little at Orion's reassurance of Itzal. Orion was a gentle man, she knew that much, and though she wanted to trust him in this there were just some things she couldn't leave to chance.

However, right now, she was in no shape to protest. She couldn't even shift, not while her body was healing from the trauma of birth. In a few days she'd be more stable, more capable of defending herself and their children if need be. Though her ears were pressed against her head she nodded slowly.

"If you are sure of him, then I'll trust in you."

"I am sure of him, I promise. He won't hurt any of you." He'd likely be confused and probably laugh at the first explanation - but once he heard Saya talk, or saw her shift, well, he'd believe. Glancing to the pups as they went quiet he couldn't help but smile at them, all piled up in the corner of the blankets, fast asleep. Hopefully they wouldn't have too hard of a time with life. He would rather die than let them get into the hands of someone who may hurt them.

"Do you want anything? Are you hungry or thirsty?" Orion asked after a few moments, unsure of if Saya would just wish to rest or not. He wasn't entirely sure of anything after this, only that she would need some care to ensure she recovered from the birth.

Saya nodded slowly, relenting to his assurances. She'd make her own judgement call later, for now she would have to trust the man who was the only one in the world helping her. "Alright then, I'll put my faith in your friend," she finally acknowledged beyond a small bit of body language. She looked to the sleeping pups, leaning her head against the little nest Orion had built for them. She'd have to get up soon and join them to be sure they stayed warm.

"Hmm? Oh...some water, if you don't mind." she replied absently before looking back towards Orion. "We'll have to give them names soon. Even if they are destined to remain like this, we owe them a name as their parents."

"Of course." Orion nodded, standing and stretching a little as he watched the pups, smile still quirked at his lips. He was already in love with them, even if they stayed puppies forever. "Of course. I... I uhm, I'm pretty hungry. I'm going to get something to eat, and bring you some water okay? I'll be right back, I promise." He softly rubbed her ears for a moment before heading out of the room.

It was nearly fifteen minutes before Saya would be disturbed. There was no knock on the door - just a man walking in, a notepad in hand that he didn't even look up from as he started to speak, door shutting behind him. "I'm stuck Orion, I started writing this song for Kas, and I.... I just want her to like it. Want to read this over...?" Trailing off he frowned as he looked up from the notepad and didn't find his friend there, but instead saw a very large wolf-dog and puppies? Seeming surprised he held his hands up. "Hell, bud, what are you getting in to? Hey there puppy, where did Orion drag you in from, hunh?" He asked as he crouched down, holding his hands out to her. "I won't hurt you, promise."

Saya nodded as Orion left, getting up and lumbering into the little nest he had built to gently circle the pups and envelope them in her warmth. She had just begun to drift into sleep when unfamiliar footsteps paused outside...and then came in. Saya's eyes flashed open, her hackles rising as she watched Itzal foolishly approach. She stayed still and uiet, hoping with no response from orion he might keep his nose in his notebook and simply walk back out.

That, however, was not the case and instead he knelt and insisted on making friends. Oh, she would show him how good of 'friends' they were...

She stood slowly, careful not to disturb her pups too much, before taking slow and deliberate steps towards Itzal. Her eyes were fixed, the posture that of aggression rather than friendship. She would love nothing more than to render this stranger forever silent if it wouldn't only draw more attention. Instead she jumped at him, aiming to pin his shoulders under massive paws and level her eyes with his.

"Hey, hey, I'm not your enemy here." Itzal made no moves to back away, just keeping his posture open even as Saya approached and finally jumped and pinned him. He tried not to struggle, though winced as his left shoulder roughly slammed to the floor. He'd feel that in the morning, that was for sure. "H-hey, it's alright puppy, I'm Orion's friend." Why was he still talking to her? She obviously didn't care...

His saving grace was that Orion came back then, nearly dropping the pitcher of water and the box of take-out he was carrying. "Saya! Let Itzal up, it's okay." He carefully slid the food and water onto the table before kneeling next to the both of them, running a hand through Saya's fur. "Promise, it's okay."

"Where did you acquire a wolf and puppies, Orion?" Itzal was still trying to stay still, though eyeing Saya carefully. "And how do you know she isn't going to turn on you? I didn't do anything - just walked in and talked to her."

Saya may not have had a snarl resting on her face, but she didn't look up at Orion's voice. His hand over her fur did little to soothe her anger at being walked in on but she did relent, finally leaning back until she was off of Itzal. Her legs wobbled a bit under her from the exertion needed to 'attack' him and she st down to keep from falling over. But her eyes narrowed at Itzal for a moment--so this was the man Orion had talked about. He was safe, she reminded herself, Orion had promised that much.

"Didn't your mother ever tell you to leave new parents in the animal world alone? We're highly unpredictable," she quipped, fully prepared for him to kick at her or do something in retaliation to hearing her talk. "Of course, I'm always a little unpredictable."

Itzal didn't kick out at her, though he did scramble to back away, eyes wide as he took in all of this information, looking back and forth between Saya and Orion for a moment. "....What the hell?"

"I told you I'd explain." Orion sighed, trying to soothe Saya still, hand stroking through her fur gently. His attention did shift as the pups squeaked and moved, the largest black pup squirming over his brother and sisters towards the voices.

"And to be fair I was cornered. I shut the door." Itzal quipped for a moment, frowning a little at Orion's sudden shift in attention. It was odd. Not that Orion didn't love animals, he always had, but he hadn't ever become a rescuer before. "So.... Why these particular.... Apparently very special wolves?"

Orion rolled his shoulders in an automatic response, looking to Saya and then to his friend. "....It's a long story, Itzal."

"We have six hours until rehearsal, tell me."

The pale sister squeaked out in annoyance at having her beauty rest disturbed, while the auburn brother grunted  and whined a little, nosing the crying sister until they both wound up in a heap of chubby legs and tails. Saya looked to them from Orion's side, her hackles lowered slightly. She got up calmly, casting another glance at Itzal before slinking into the nest to begin nosing the pups out of their tangle.

She wanted to admit that she was curious as to hear Orion's own spin on the tale of their meeting...but she couldn't let itzal get off that easily. "Exactly, you shut yourself in here with a strange dog and her newborns. For shame." She carefully nestled herself down among the puppies and gave a wolfish grin towards Itzal. "You sad you didn't make the discovery first?"
