City of Dreams [Self]

Postby Kallile » 12/17/2009 8:40 PM

((Not going to lie, this is a bit of a holiday KS-harvesting thread. However it is also serving in helping me develop Cat and Deadpool--so the posts are not going to be nonsense (though there will be a great deal of nonsense talk going on). To those who decide to read--hope you enjoy!))

Ah, the city of medical wards and hospitals. The city of higher learning and compassion, of healing and dying alike. A cold smile crossed the voidbringers scaled muzzle. Four dark red eyes scanned the night-lit area carefully from atop the highest point, looking at the twinkling lights of hospital rooms below her in the thousands as they flickered off for sleep. Some, she knew, would flicker off for good. And then, like all things, something else would come and fill the void the deceased left. Life had a funny way of leaving nothing empty forever. Hearts, homes, hospital beds--anything.

The fate-seeker was, however, not here to bring about anyones demise. She had heard of the appearances of another apparition not unlike herself in their life's work--though this one seemed far more sinister with it's ethereal and world-walking abilities. Anything that could traverse the waking and sleeping worlds in one piece was a little something like a monster--even to a creature such as herself. With a low, almost purring rumble she settled herself onto the pristine white rooftop which she stood out sorely against with her blood red and black scales.

Wings tucked over her back and flames of silver illuminating her, Deadpool sat and waited. She knew the psyche of this new creature; beings like these were chosen by fate for a reason. She did not yet know this beings reason, but she was well aware that he was moving through the dead of night somewhere in this city. perhaps feeding on dreams, perhaps turning a few into nightmares. That was not for her to know nor any of her outright concern. It had been too long since she had met with another so steeped into self-absorbed madness; she was due a little 'meet and greet' with the new nutcase on the block. She knew that it would not be able to resist another presence such as hers. Fate would see to that.

But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

The layer between dreams and reality were really much more thin than anyone would like to admit to. It didn't take a genius to pass from one to the other; in fact, humans did it every night without trying. It did, however, take a special kind of madness to traverse them in a conscience state.

The way between the worlds was like a thick mist with watery pools of the scenes unfolding on either side. Cat padded slowly down the endless hall of nothingness--watching the happenings with an idle grin. He had witnessed so much in his life, he had become something of a deity in his own right; a grand knower of things. Yes, he quite liked the sounds of that. Metallic tipped tails swishing, he paused and turned his attention to the pool of reality where he saw something very strange.

A paragon, but not just any overgrown lizard. This one knew things, saw things...she was a Fate Keeper. How very interesting--and in a place like the Medicai City. one might wonder what a Fate Keeper would do among the walking dead at night. Carefully he dipped his muzzle into the pool he observed her in, his muzzle spread wide in a mischevious grin.

Deadpool sat in perfect stillness, and if not for the flames lapping at the tip of her tail one would have thought her to be a gargoyle overlooking the city she was doomed to protect. The larger set of her four eyes moved lucidly to a spot where the fabric of reality itself seemed to ripple--finding with some surprise that there was a fanged grin hanging beside the new moon. She blinked at it, switching her tail in silent curiosity. So--this must be the new beast she had been hearing rumors of.

"Been there long?" She mused to the grin, looking on with equal amusement as two ice blue cat eyes appeared in perfect spacing above the grin. The faceless features bobbed slightly in giddy laughter.

"Only as long as time." The grin replied as the features titled to regard her more closely. They got very close before Deadpool waved her tail slightly more threateningly.

"Save your theatrics--they won't get you too far with me."

The grin and eyes only watched her, ever smiling, and seemed to nod sagely. "As I would expect from one who can see fate so clearly as you. You, at least, have an understanding, am I quite right?"

Deadpool grinned back. "Oh, I understand madness quite well, if that's what you're driving at."

The grin manifested into an entire head, then slowly into a metallic and flesh body as Cat slipped through the Between and into the world of reality. Carefully placing himself beside the large Paragon, both sat at the apex of the building and watched the lights all around them flicker and dance for a moment. While not 'fun' by any classification--it was certainly a city that never slept.

"It is endlessly amazing how the dying mind conjures up the most vivid dreams." Cat said suddenly, causing Deadpool to angle her head down to better observe him. She looked out again at the cityscape, though she was well aware the strange feline at her side could 'see' much more than she could. "It makes one wonder if the best stories are the ones that follow the teller to the grave."

Deadpool shrugged, seeming very casual about the rather morbid conversation. "I like to think the world only looses one more maddened edge with each untold story. There are too many twists that we can put on any tale to make them more enticing. We don't need stories dreamed up by those seeing the end of their life rushing towards them."

Cat chuckled deeply for a moment, watching as one light suddenly flickered on. Shadow could be seen rushing around inside; something that had Cat's tails swishing with bemused excitement. "Even Fate Keepers like you will never see the light at the end of your tunnel until Death has already taken you, Deadpool."

As they looked on, the shadows in the room became suddenly still. There seemed to be a somber moment within; though if one were watching Cat's face they would have assumed he was watching an amazingly well-acted out play. "And there it is, the great crescendo to life as is known."

An almost phantom looking thing appeared through the blinds--the sheet to cover the dead. "The death scene."

Both looked on as a small creature appeared from...no, no through...the window. It seemed to be smiling brightly, eagerly coaching for something to follow. A ghostly white apparition slowly poked it's head through the windo pane, glancing around nervously. Cat batted his twin tail around with morbid glee as he watched the little Myuu Reaper guide the soul upwards and into the more promising side of the afterlife.

"It's hard not to wonder how many might have seen me in their dreams and dreamed up children of mine." Cat mused, watching where the Myuu and ghost had dissipated into the sky. "Not a far fetched idea for such small kittens to be guides into the afterlife and tread the Between as masterfully as I."

Deadpool rolled her eyes at this. "Don't flatter yourself--Gods forbid that you'd ever be allowed to procreate."
