I yelled out in pain as the lava hit my pelt.  I could feel the heat coming closer and closer.  The sound of boiling liquid told me that there wasn't but a few seconds left until the lava caught up with me.  But right as I saw the grass, a loose rock slipped out from under my foot, and I skidded down, wincing at the pain.  I tried to get up, but knew I wasn't going to be fast enough.  It's over... I thought to myself.  I felt the heat coming over me, resisting the urge to scream.  I blacked out, welcoming the relief of pain.

[Elektra]

Beep, beep.  The sound of a machine caused me to stir.  I started to move my head in an attempt to see what exactly had awoken me from my peaceful, pain-free sleep, but even that tiny motion sent a wave of pain through me.  It was unbearable, as if it set every inch of my body on fire.  I couldn't help it.  I screamed out, loud and clear.

[Elektra]

"Calm down little one." a light voice said.  I stopped screaming, and started to turn my head again.  And, being my dumb self, forgot what had happened the first time.  It was all I could do not to scream out once more.  "Try to stay still please." the voice said again.  As if knowing what I wanted, the person that had been speaking to me stepped out into my view.

[Elektra]

"I'm Doctor Rose." she said.  She wore the typical clothing of a doctor: a medical coat, stethoscope, simple flats on her feet.  She picked up a clipboard that I assumed had been hanging from the end of my bed, and looking it over.  While she was doing this though, something caught my eye.  There was a red tale hanging down from her waist.

[Elektra]

"You...  Have a tail..." I managed to croak.  She looked up, a twinkle in her eye.  "Yes, and you have pulsing flame-like markings all over your body.  And yet, that doesn't seem to stop you from doing what you wish to do, so why should being a Teiigu stop me from being a doctor?"  Did she just say...  Then the first of those memories came rushing back into my head.

[Elektra]

But how am I alive? I thought to myself.  I recalled going down to the volcano a few days ago, or, well, I assumed it had only been a few days.  There had been a lot of commotion with all of the younger residents riled up with their new toys, and I had wanted to get away from it all.  So naturally, I went to the one place that made me feel as if I was in my one element.  The one place I assumed no one would be to bother me.  Nori Volcano

Naturally, I messed up.  But this time, it seemed a lot worse.  Sure, I had gone off and done stuff before, and it hadn't gone very well, but this time...  I had to resist shaking my head and causing myself more pain.  What I had gotten myself into?  Well, I wasn't quite sure.

[Elektra]

"So might I ask what your name is?" Dr.Rose asked. "We weren't able to find out anything from the man who brought you in.  We thought that you were to far gone, since until this moment, you hadn't moved a muscle.  And that was was over two weeks ago."  My mind was reeling with all of this information, but I managed to get out my name.  "It's Azula..."

[Elektra]

I saw her write something down on the clipboard, and sighed.  My skin felt like it was still on fire, and I wondered why I hadn't really felt it until just now.  "What exactly's wrong?" I asked.  I knew I wouldn't like the answer she would end up giving me, but I still needed to know.  I braced myself, getting ready to take in whatever she would say to me.

[Elektra]

"Azula..." Dr.Rose started off cautiously.  She looked at me, groping for the words.  "You were caught in a lava flow from what we could tell.  But before I may tell you more, you need to tell me something.  We tried to find a relation of yours, but well, the tests that came back from the lab a few days ago..."  Her face seemed to twist into an emotion that I couldn't quite describe.  It was almost as if he were angry at himself.  But for what? I asked myself.

[Elektra]

After a minute or two, she looked up at me, and started again.  "Well dear, your test, they kept, and still are, saying that you have a Molten Kuhna's genetic makeup.  Yet, you can't be such."  I wasn't sure what she meant at first, but I listened as she continued on.  "I know that it's probably going to confuse you, but, I'd like for you to look at yourself."  She set the clipboard down to where it had been hanging on the end of my bed, and bent down to pick something up.  When she came back up, there was a small mirror in her hand.  I swallowed hard, and waited as she held it up for me.

I gasped, feeling ready to faint once more.  My hair had gone from its once dull orange color to a deep black, and my left eye...  The skin around it was burned beyond repair; the eye itself barely open, and a deep red.  The jacket that I had gotten for my birthday was tattered, and my shorts blackened with what I hoped to be ash.  But the most horrifying part was the small wisps of flame clinging to my body.  They didn't burn, in fact, they weren't even relatively warm.  "What am I?" I whispered.

[Elektra]

"My dear, it isn't really determined, but while you were unconcious, you shifted from two different forms a few times.  And that, you see, is why we were so perplexed with your lab results.  You, physically, are a Darkflame Kuhna-" "What?" I croaked, ignoring the pain in my throat.  I tried to understand what she had just told me, but still couldn't.  I couldn't be one of those freakish Darkflames, I just couldn't!  I had been a Molten Kuhna just a few days- no, weeks now - and as far I knew, you couldn't just one day decide to become a whole different species, could you?

Apparently Dr.Rose saw my expression, and attempted to explain.  And yet, it seemed as if she couldn't really.  As if she herself didn't know what exactly had happened to me.  So that's what was wrong! I thought to myself.  I finally understood why she had been acting so oddly.  She was mad at herself for not knowing how this had occurred.  Sighing, I rolled my eyes, wondering how people could be so...  So interesting.

After adjusting some of my meds, she left the room, leaving me to contemplate everything that had just been dumped onto my shoulders.  A Darkflame Kuhna...  I thought.  Seeing as it still hurt to move, I thought about everything that had happened.  It seemed to me as if everything in my world had been picked up, and thrown upside down, leaving everything to sort itself out.  Including me
