[Sarah]

 

- Part One -

Medicai city; finally they were here, over land. Scarlet dropped down behind some of the tall skyscrapers. “You still ok?” she asked looking back at the angel. Vella wasn’t looking very well, she had almost no energy left and she needed to be recharged. Scarlet peaked around the corner, E next to her showing Vella where they were. “If you go in there, I cannot follow; I would have to wait outside.” Scarlet warned looking back at the injured angel.

[Sarah]

“I know, but I have to go, if I don’t we won’t make it much further, and we need to see this shaman.” Vella sighed, stepping out from behind the building, straightening her shirt. She was in her human form and she looked like a zombie. Her skin what white and her cloths where torn and bloody. It probably didn’t help that she was making moaning sounds as well. she sure did feel like a zombie, she was hardly able to lift her feet and her legs refused to make normal bending and walking motions.

[Sarah]

The people of the city where kind though and more than once she was pulled aside by strangers asking to help. She always replied with a polite ‘no thank you.’ And continued on her way towards the small church. It was old and rundown compared to the rest of the very modern city. She hoped that it would still hold the energy she needed, or a priest of some kind to help her out.

[Sarah]

She hobbled across the road, making it to the other side just in time for the light to turn. The church was just in front of her nose, she looked back and saw that Scarlet was still behind the building her blue eyes looking genuinely concerned. As pedestrians reached the edge of the building they were hiding behind Scarlet was forced to change to her human form, and her now red eyes flashed with boredom. Sighing Vella started up the small path to the church.

[Sarah]

The yard leading up to the church was neat and well kept. Flowers bloomed in small patches and the grass was cut short and even. The church doors where large maple doors with Latin inscriptions carved around the edges. It all made the church feel a lot older than it was. She knocked and slowly pushed open the doors. It was a Thursday so no one was in the main part of the church. Vella went up to the front row of pews and sat down carefully. The whole building seemed to creak with every step she took and she was a little worried when she sat that the whole building would collapse.

[Sarah]

Maybe the church was as old as it felt, all the better for Vella, that meant that faithful people had filed in and out of the pews. The faith that these people held and the prayers they said would help her regain some power. What she really needed was a priest. And as if on cue a Priest showed himself, backing out of a room and silently closing the door behind him. A look of shock spread across his face when he saw the girl sitting in the pews.

[Sarah]

“Hello father.” Vella said quietly bowing her head respectively to the Priest. “It’s been a long time since I have helped an angel, or even seen an angel.” The Priest said slowly, approaching the angel quickly. He sat next to her and took her hand in his. “How can I help you my child?” he asked forcing Vella to looking into his eyes. “I need to be healed.” She said simply, knowing she would have to elaborate before this man would help her.

[Sarah]

Scarlet watched the angel disappear behind the church doors and slid down to the ground; her body shaking. She had not expected anything like this to happen. She actually felt concern for this angel which was weird for her. She was pissed off that she had to be in her human form again, and she was not excited to have left Vella alone. It seemed E was pretty upset to, he had lost connection with Vella and now he was flitting around the shadows frantically making strangled squeaking noises every so often.

[Sarah]

“Please find help in there Vella.” Scarlet pleaded, she would not be able to help Vella if she got trapped in the church. As a demon she was strictly forbidden from entering a church or any other sacred grounds. “It is a city of healing.” Scarlet reminded herself holding her head in her hands. Her hoodie was blood stained from where she had moved around Vella while she was removing the shackles. The alleyway was damp but none of the water was clean enough for her to wash her jacket with.

[Sarah]

“Even in a city of healing there is still sick.” She said sadly, disgust laced in her voice. What where these emotions, she shouldn’t be feeling them right now. It was forbidden for her to do many things, and having feelings towards an angel was one of them. Even if it wasn’t sexual, there was to be no friendships between a demon and an angel. Plus it was probably one sided. Scarlet didn’t know if Vella felt the same trust and closeness to the demon and Scarlet did for the angel.

[Sarah]

Scarlet hadn’t felt sadness for a long time, and she hadn’t felt empathy for even longer. It was a strange and almost unfamiliar feeling. It was a little freaky especially since it was something she wasn’t able to shake off. She was just glad that she was able to control what emotions showed so she put on a bored face because that was always her default. Taking a deep breath she got up, the alley way stench was starting to infiltrate her nose and she didn’t want to start vomiting just yet.

[Sarah]

She left the alleyway and to her unfortunate surprise E followed her he was calmed a little but Scarlet could tell he wasn’t the same without Vella around. “You can’t go into church either?” Scarlet asked curious. It shook its head no. “yeah, me either.” she said smirking, "it’s just something you gotta get used to though, and in time it won’t be such a bother.” E shook his head knowing it was something more that Scarlet would not be able to understand.

[Sarah]

There was a partnership and energy bond between the Angel and E. without E able to access the angel’s powers he had to find other alternatives. When he was just a wisp wandering on his own he used the wind, but with that energy he also had to spend his days adrift to access the power. “So you’re E right?” Scarlet asked changing the subject. The thing nodded to her taking a position next to her so that he could feed off of her a little bit. “Mind if I call you Vowel?” she asked looking at the strange dragon shaped thing. It shook its head no, displeasure clear on its features. “How about The Vowel?” scarlet tried again. Still E shook its head, he had to put up with E already he didn’t need another stupid nickname clouding his thoughts.

[Sarah]

Scarlet shrugged “suit yourself, I don’t really know why I tried in the first place.” She walked on, wondering if there was a store nearby. She would love to have some food; another thing about being cast from heaven down to hell was that there was an all lasting hunger and thirst, no matter what she would always have that gnawing at her stomach and the burn at her throat. Another form of torture that she had to be put through. Scarlet took advantage of it, as a demon she couldn’t really gain weight and with her schedule and hard workouts it wouldn’t matter if she could gain weight. With the perpetual hunger and thirst she made sure to eat only the most delicious and fatty of foods.

[Sarah]

“Ooh, this looks interesting.” Scarlet said, she had never been to this city, she usually tried to stay away from Medicai, she hated the doctors as a mortal and she didn’t plan on warming up to them now. They were just to clean and the buildings smelt strongly of bleach. Now she was here and she would be able to explore. She assumed it would be a while before Vella got out of the church but she had no idea really.
