No one saw it coming. Not the nurses getting off the night shift, not the doctors getting ready for their morning shifts, or the paramedics who had been on the roads. A thin black mist had developed in the early hours of the morning, just before the sun had started peeking through the clouds. By the time the sun had reached full height, the mist had developed into a blanket that swirled around and lapped at the feet of mystified commuters. Mr. Wilson seemed to not notice as they pecked away at the ground and stray Draculi stopped to curiously paw at the substance but didn't seem to be distressed about it either.
Instead, it seemed to have a calming effect on the city. Doctors reported less emergencies in their hospitals, pedestrians noted less agitation and even traffic seemed manageable around rush hour. According to news reporters, the mist hung around until nightfall.
