Kai felt the blood drain out of his face, and doubled his efforts to cross the divide between the two ships quickly, though he was no longer on a direct course with the cannon barrel. Tiny fins working as hard as they could, he strained his eyes to see if there was another safe-looking spot he could reach, only to be knocked off-course as another giant ripple passed through the water around him.

He righted himself and glanced downwards as the large reptilian creature slithered out of the hole in the side of the ship, revealing the rest of its monstrous form.
