In a land as far south as this, away from the constant lava flows of the wastes, things were pretty awful when a bitter wind could chill right down to the bones of even the toughest of dragons. Today seemed especially cold as Seranus made his way through large empty halls, and right outside snow could be seen falling.

Today he had received an unexpectedly important message, one that he never thought he’d actually receive, of him being summoned. While walking his tail would sway about in an aggravated manner that gave away how anxious he felt about this. Why would someone like him get such a message?

This particular request for his presence could not easily be ignored. Despite any feelings he may have about it, he still had to go.

It was then that he would soon find himself before a pair of large doors made up of thick sheets of ice. Beyond them, would be where he’d figure out the reason behind him being summoned seemingly out of the blue. Standing there caused an uneasiness to start sinking in, but Seranus had to force that feeling down to focus. With one final check of himself to ensure everything was in proper order, so as to not make a fool of himself, he would walk through those large icy doors.

Beyond them, was where the king himself would await within his throne room, lounging comfortably atop his throne. He had been in the middle of a quiet conversation with another dragon that stood at his side, when they heard the deep echoing sounds of the doors opening from the other side of the room; signaling that another individual had arrived.

A chilling look was in the king’s eyes as he directed them over to their newest arrival, waiting for him to come closer before he spoke. ”You’ve arrived, at last.” Setting aside those other matters for later, King Isavar waved away the other dragon to concentrate on their new guest.

Upon swinging the doors open far enough, the dragon took quick notice of everything about the room. That even included the fact that there were other dragons also present, in addition to the king and the one he had been speaking with.

The second he felt those eyes rest upon him, he hurried in without a moment of hesitation. If rumors were to be believed, you definitely didn’t want to keep the king waiting…

Walking past a few of the other dragons who looked like they had been waiting, he got close enough to be heard when he spoke. Though first he would start by lowering his whole body close to the ground, to respectfully kneel before him. ”My King…” He started almost hesitantly. ”I heard you wished to see me?”

When the larger dragon approached, Isavar had allowed for him to speak, before he left the comfort of the throne to stand up to his full height. From there, he would officially commence this meeting. ”Yes… I’ve gathered you all here today for a specific purpose.” His eyes would turn to each dragon within the group individually before he continued.

”After discussing these matters at great length with my council, a decision that involves other kingdoms and clans that neighbor ours has been finally made. A very important one that will involve all of you, as I will require your assistance to ensure the success of this endeavor.”

There were a few confused glances and the rise of some whispers among his audience. The sort that was not easily quelled by a sharp glare from their King. Their rising questions would not go unanswered for long though, as Isavar kept going. ”To improve relations with some of our neighbors, the kingdom shall host a special event in the coming month.” The mention of an event of sorts had quickly piqued the interest of several, Seranus included. ”This is where you all will come in. I want everything to go according to plan, and to do that, all of you will be going out to personally escort some of our most important guests, to ensure they arrive safely.”

The more the king talked about what he had had planned, the more Seranus became interested. Not only that, he was even puzzled about how in the world he would end up being picked out among all of the king’s potential warriors for such an important job! Others around him were also beginning to grow agitated with excitement, it was difficult for everyone to stay quiet and calm while the king went on.

”The purpose of this meeting was to inform you of what we have currently planned, but the actual task will not be carried out until later. When the time comes, I trust you all will complete your duties without fail. Until then, I suggest you all prepare yourselves for your future journeys to these other lands.”

”Now, you may all return to your other duties. Further instructions will be given out to all of you once more details are available.” With that final statement, it seemed like this meeting was now concluded. For Seranus, he honestly still had some other questions he would’ve preferred to have asked, as likely many others also did. But for the time being, it did not seem appropriate to say much of anything at this point. That and he was still too nervous to actually say anything else. The room fell silent as everyone began to file out in as orderly of a fashion as they could manage. Smaller dragons would hurry out between some of the larger ones, and Seranus especially had to tread carefully, lest he step on a stray tail or foot.

With the throne room now totally behind him, Seranus could let out a breath that he didn’t realize he’d been holding in. The first time for him to see the king that up close and personal, it had been pretty nerve-wracking… For him that was the most amazing moment ever. It was too bad that he couldn’t have stayed a little longer to speak with him. Based on the sorts of things he’s previously heard about the king, and from what he now saw, it was hard to say how much of it was even true.

He had been getting so wrapped up in his thoughts, that he didn’t take much notice to all the growing chatter among the others about this upcoming event and the new job they’d be getting.

Finally, the room was completely quiet and empty again.

It took a little longer than Isavar would have liked for his warriors to all leave, but once those large doors had finally slammed shut, he was allowed a moment to relax. ”Haaah…” A soft sigh would escape him as his composure loosened up. Now that that was done, the king could get a small moment of peace before he had to continue with the other meetings that had been scheduled for the day. He could even feel the gaze of the other dragon burning into his back, as they waited impatiently. He’d get to that soon, but first...

”Bring me my tea, will you?” He would address one of his staff, and they would hurriedly scuttle off to go retrieve it. Once they were gone, Isavar returned to his throne and sunk into the largest pillow resting on it and took a moment to just savor the stillness of the room.
