Satou, Kati, Cyra

Satou sighed. She set the bowl down on the island counter in front of Kati and patted the kid on the head before turning to the rest of the kitchen. Why did she feel like this wasn't going to turn out well? Thankfully, she had convinced the staff to let her use the Castle kitchens instead of her own up in her rooms. She didn't tell them it was because she didn't want it wrecked, of course.

It also happened to be the day she was asked to babysit Kati, because that wasn't a terrible idea at all. She watched the girl delightedly scoop up her favourite sugary cereal and shove it in her mouth. The woman smiled ruefully.

It was that moment that Cyra came busting through the door with a flourish that somehow managed not to look intentional. "I'm ready!" she sang.

Satou merely sighed at the load of supplies Cyra dumped onto the nearest counter. There was a ridiculous amount of sugar there - she did know you don't put sugar into cupcakes, right? - and...was that glitter? Satou seriously hoped it was the edible stuff. Next to her, Kati eyed the sugar with wide eyes, the spoon handle waggling in her mouth.

"So," Cyra huffed, getting her breath back from dashing in with that heavy load, "where do we start?"

There was a moment as she waited for an answer from Satou, who was still staring at the supply pile. The woman looked up slowly. Her expression was tired, and her voice matched as she said, "remind me why we're doing this, again." Clearly she had put up quite a fight against this whole situation, but had given up on fighting it.

Cyra just laughed. "Because sparkly things are awesome and cupcakes are delicious so somebody needs to make awesomely delicious sparkly cupcakes," she chirped as if it were a perfectly logical argument.

Kati's eyes practically lit up and Cyra bent over to the kid's eye level and winked at her. "Don't you think so?" she asked. Kati removed the spoon with a little pop and grinned, "Yep!"

Satou had basically just ignored the two of them and turned to the various supplies (the actual ingredients they needed) that she picked up because she had wisely foreseen that Cyra would mess it up. Or rather, that the girl wouldn't have bothered to get the proper things in favour of whatever she liked.

Without saying much, she just started dishing out ingredients and measuring them. Cyra looked over from where she and Kati had started a tic-tac-toe game out of a pile of sugar. Yeah, sugar they had just dumped out of a bag. Just to tic-tac-toe. The pile was also suspiciously small considering the empty bag. There was also a suspicious dusting of white on Kati's lips.

"Woah, wait, are you making them without me!?" Cyra exclaimed. Satou didn't even look up from measuring out flour. "I figured you would prefer the mixing parts," she commented, before pausing and adding, "Or did you want to measure these?"

Cyra frowned. For a second, she opened her mouth to answer, but then just looked down at Kati. The child blinked up at her. Shifting, Cyra smoothed out the sugar and drew a new tic-tac-toe game, which was clearly her answer. Satou rolled her eyes a little and went back to what she was doing.

Part of her felt that she should probably be more concerned about the fact Kati was just eating straight-up sugar, on top of her cereal and the inevitable cupcake and frosting-tasting. It just felt like she had her hands full enough without giving herself another thing to fuss over.

"Come over here and start mixing these up," she called to Cyra as she finished separating the eggs. The girl abandoned the game and eagerly bounced over. Kati didn't seem particularly upset about this as she just ate the game instead.

"Okay! What do I do?" Cyra chirped. Satou instructed her through selecting the right ingredients and mixing them together. She paused for a moment only to glare a warning at Kati who sheepishly pulled her hand away from an unopened pack of sugar.

Satou was pleasantly surprised that everything was going fairly smoothly. Cyra actually seemed serious about this. Serious enough to follow Satou's instructions properly, anyway. She still danced around and chattered on about various irrelevant things that the woman just tuned out.

Not to mention, she only had to stop Kati from going after the sugar once or twice. It seemed the child was quite willing to be patient if it meant getting cupcakes and frosting. Honestly, it was probably just the frosting she wanted.

Well, there was a speed-bump when Cyra insisted that they needed to put sparkles in them. "There's no point to sparklingly awesome delicious cupcakes if they're not awesomely sparkly!" she exclaimed. Satou sighed. "We can make the frosting sparkly," she explained.

Cyra didn't like that much. She pulled her lip out in a pout. "The frosting has to be sparkly too, but if the cupcakes aren't sparkly, then they won't be Super Awesome Sparkle-Cakes, they'll just be...cupcakes with sparkles on them," she chided. From behind the island counter, Kati nodded vehemently. Satou had to force herself not to visibly roll her eyes at the fact Cyra had already given them a ridiculous name. Sparkle-cakes? Really?

She consented that the cakes could be sparkly, but she had to consider how to do it. "Oh, we can just put glitter in them!" chirped Cyra helpfully, as though it were an obvious solution. Satou winced. "We can't just put normal glitter in them. They're not edible. They'll make people sick," she explained calmly.

Cyra rolled her eyes. "[color=purple]Well I can just magic them to be edible,[color]" she said. Satou opened her mouth before pausing. Well...that was true. She knew Cyra was adept at 'fairy magic', which was restricted to anything that a fairy-tale fairy could do. She was pretty sure something like this didn't actually fall under the rules of 'fairy magic' that Cyra insisted were real, but she wasn't going to say anything.

After all, no one but Cyra said Cyra couldn't do normal magic. Hell, Daxon had no problem pointing out that his sister's 'fairy magic' was just normal magic that she really liked to use.

Kati had delighted in watching Cyra cast a spell on the glitter, which was really just a couple of words spoken over the sparkles. Of course, Cyra rather loved to make a show of it, so there was a lot of twirling and wand-waving and sparks and sparkles.

With the glitter in, Satou shoved the cupcake trays into the oven. "Now we wait for those to cook," she commented. Kati and Cyra both pouted at her, but before Cyra could do something stupid like crank up the oven temperature, she scooped up the sugar. "So we can make the frosting while we wait!" she exclaimed, a little desperate.
