"That's pretty cool. I didn't know about that. I'll be more careful with shells next time.  I won't just pick them up next time." he said looking at the snail squirm away. As the snail let Koi in the sand. He looked up the coral. The coral had a light pink hue to it. He never seen such odd colours in coral. Most coral he has seen was grey blue or green. It was never pink.
"What else do you know about Sa'fir coast?" he asked looking back at his new friend.

[Freezair]

"Sa'fir coast? Hmm... I guess that's what people on the land call it, then," Marina shrugged. She watched as a pair of clownfish darted between the frilly anemones anchored on the coral. Their swift-tailed game seemed to fascinate her, and for a moment, she was lost in thought.

"Oh," she said when she finally spoke. "Well, the sand here is black, you know. That's because of volcanoes. The sand here is made from worn-down volcanic rocks and little bits of ash. People think it's really pretty because it's so rare. Even though it makes nasty, sticky mud." As if to prove a point, she flicked at the sand with the pointed tips of her tail. "I don't think something shouldn't be thought of as pretty, just because it's common! Lots of ordinary things can be beautiful! You just need to take the time to appreciate them and look at them right!" Petulantly, she put her paws on her finny hips and huffed.

Koi started to laugh. Never has he heard of an animal talk about common and uncommon things with such zeal. "You like rare things but not common things?" he asked, "You don't like common things like coral or seaweed?  I like seaweed, it is good food when your are REALLY hungry."

[Freezair]

"Ugh! That's the complete opposite of what I said! Weren't you listening at all? Rare things are so overrated!" Her nose flushed a pink color, and she turned away with an angry huff of bubbles.

She quickly realized, however, that she was probably being unkind. She hummed in thought before turning around. "...Sorry if I seemed angry there, but people don't often listen to me directly. ...It's kind of a nerve of mine." Suddenly humbled, she gazed somewhat sadly off into the coral. "And when it comes to rare things, well... I have problems there."

"Sorry I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." he flushed. Koi was just excited to be around someone who could talk. His Bubble spirit friend didn't talk as much as floated while gesturing.
Koi got a brilliant idea! Play tag with each other! he smirked and tapped Marina. "Tag you are it!" he shouted swimming away from her.

Had he noticed her becoming depressed? Was he changing the subject to make her feel better? Maybe, maybe not. Marina couldn't be sure. But she decided to believe that he was, and she was just a bit touched by it. With an unusual little smile, she began to chase after him.

"Ha ha! I'm going to get you, you know! We Merhams are very fast swimmers!" The frothy trail of churned-up seawater she left behind her certainly seemed to back that fact up. She was moving at a stunning pace, with a very determined grin.

"Ha, Merhams may be fast but so are Kuni! We are very fast!" he laughed. He passed the pink coral easily trying to beat her with his speed a lone. He swam up into the sunlight until he sharpy dived toward the black sand.

Marina was used to erratic movements--Merhams liked to dart around, you see--and when he swam up high, she had a feeling he was going to dive back down. So she hung back, waiting to see him move. Just as she predicted, he came back down, and she dove for him, straight towards the sand. She would catch him! She knew she would! Cleverness prevailed, right?

Koi looked behind him. He was surprised Marina thought out his plan and now is a half a Kuni size away. He pushed himself to go faster. He turned right. He swam past another coral patch.

[Freezair]

As Koi rounded the coral patch, Marina put on a full burst of speed, trying to catch him. Her chest ached and she felt out of breath. Which was weird, because she was underwater and had gills. But her lungs, even though they weren't being used at the moment, wanted her to pant.

She found herself brushing past a group of stinging anemones. She would have kept up her pursuit, but something caught her eye. Something of an unusual color, not usually found beneath the sea. The game suddenly forgotten, she slid to a halt, staring.

Koi was having fun trying to divert Marina's chasing. He swam farther away. Te turned to see how far behind she was. He finially noticed that she shopped chasing him. Curious, only just meeting her, he was concerned. He swam quietly over and asked. "What's wrong? Did I do something?"

[Freezair]

"No, it's fine. I think we were at a stalemate anyway. But look!"

Marina's teal-and-white paw shot out, indicating something unusual wedged in the coral. At first glance, one might not have noticed it at all. It was partially transparent. But squinting revealed a distortion in the water. Something was there. Something rectangular-shaped, clear, and sparkly. Slowly, Marina swam up and tugged at it. The light caught in it as it moved, and a rainbow of colors cascaded through it.

"Woah!" It had sharp, faceted sides. It looked almost like a giant, square-cut diamond. But could there be a diamond of this size? Out here?

"Whoa," Koi exclaimed with wonder. Never has he seen such nice glass before. Maybe it wasn't glass. He wasn't sure. "What is it Marina? Do you know?" Koi asked amazed.

[Freezair]

"It looks like a diamond," Marina said. Well, way to state the obvious. She picked it up and hefted it around. Was there even a diamond this big in all the world?

But as she moved to set it back down, she noticed another glint. Something ruby-red shone before her, and only a little ways ahead! She picked it up and passed it to Koi. "And a ruby? Or something! There's something weird going on here!" She swam towards the surface for a better look, down across the sea floor. Already, she could tell: There was a line of bright, jewel-like things trailing all the way across the sandy bottom. Something was happening!

Koi unsure of what was going on followed Marina. As the sand was dusted off the jewels he saw rubies, a sapphire and topaz. Something wasn't right. "The volcano couldn't have done this so fast." he stated a little shocked at the array of jewels. He thought out loud, "Did someone lose these?"
