Ouranos nodded with interest as Zaria replied, his gaze still fixed on her. He still couldn't quite believe that she was actually related to him - the only family he'd ever had in the past were his parents (at least by blood), and they were currently countless miles away. It struck him that he might not ever actually get to see his family again, and for a moment, his smile faltered. It wasn't until the starkness of this reality hit him that he realized just how separated he now was from his home. Perhaps that was the first step towards accepting the way of the world and actually beginning to make a life for himself here. Up until now, all he'd really been doing was surviving, at best. Maybe Sekhmet had the right idea after all - it was time for him to stop chasing the past and start building a future.

He seemed to come back to himself and the present, and he offered a smile for both of the female Soveri. "Well, you're certainly very mature for your age," he said to Zaria. "As far as I can tell, at least you're much less of a troublemaker than I was when I was your age. My mother never let me live that down," he added with a chuckle. It really was a shame though, that Lassendira had to miss the tournament, but Ouranos was beginning to think that perhaps it could be seen as a blessing in disguise. After all, who didn't want young ones of their own to nurture and raise, and to carry on one's legacy and memory for the years to come? He, for one, had always wanted to be a father - he'd just never really thought about who he would have children with in the past, and most certainly not pertaining to Sekhmet.

Zaria's question startled him out of his thoughts, and he stumbled over his words for a moment as he tried to figure out how to best explain the situation, especially to one so young. "Well..." he began slowly, still organizing his thoughts, "I'm actually not from around here." He spoke carefully, especially since he himself didn't entirely know all the facts behind his sudden arrival here on Evelon. "You see, I used to live in an entirely different land, completely different from this one. That's where I grew up. But not too long ago, I came here, and that's where I met your mother." He smiled over at Lassendira at the memory of that first meeting.

"Thank you," Zaria said, the end of the statement hanging for a moment.  She looked to her mother, who nodded, and Zaria asked, "What... should I call you?  I-I mean..." she said, faltering for a moment.

"A troublemaker?" Lassendira inquired, a slight chuckle in her voice.  "I never would have guessed it, but... we had only met the once before," she said sheepishly.

"Oh!" Zaria said when Ouranos said that he came from a different world.  When he explained briefly, she nodded and said, "That's cool." That seemed to satisfy the younger Soveris, and Lassendira chuckled when Ouranos mentioned the first time they met.

"Sangi and Blödhren still gripe at me because of how early in the day that was," Lassendira said, laughing.  "I remember when we first met, I was practicing one of my moves for the Tournament, and you'd thought that I was in some sort of danger at first."

"It was your dive move, wasn't it, Mama?" Zaria asked, and Lassendira nodded as she chuckled.

"Exactly, Zaria," Lassendira said.

"Oh, ummm..." Zaria's question gave Ouranos pause as well, somewhat baffled by the unexpected query. He'd never imagined that he'd learn of an unexpected daughter today, let alone know what she was supposed to call him (or him her, honestly). "I, uh, suppose that would be up to your mother. I trust that she would know what's best." Yes, Lassendira would know what would be best for this young hatchling, and his statement was also left rather open-ended so as to allow her to decide how much of a role she wanted him to play in Zaria's life. After all, he'd been absent (although he couldn't be blamed entirely) for the past year of the hatchling's life - he wouldn't blame her for wanting to raise the child on her own. Plus, he wasn't sure he knew how to be a father either, so it also came paired with just a little bit of trepidation. At heart, he wanted only what was best for the child...his child.

With the change of subject to a lighter topic though, he chuckled, sounding slightly relieved. "Oh yes, I was quite the handful and then some when I was a hatchling. It was all my parents could do to keep me within the kingdom boundaries, but I'd like to think that it was just me getting all that restless energy out before settling into a calmer lifestyle." Yes, after all, it wouldn't have been proper for the crown prince to be running rampant about the kingdom past the age of twelve.

"Oh my goodness, your mother almost gave me a heart attack that first day," Ouranos chimed in with a sudden laugh at the mention of Lassendira's training. "I was positive that she was in some sort of trouble and about to fall to her death before she peeled out of it. I could have fallen out of the sky with relief myself." He laughed again at the memory, remembering just how worried he'd been at the time.

"Mama can do that a lot," Zaria reflected, a tiny chuckle coming from her throat.  "Sa and Ren often fret over her about new moves she practices, since we live so far from a town if she were to hurt herself."

"Yes, Sangi and Blödhren are constantly worrying over me when I start practicing a new move, usually because they fear that, one of these times, I will gravely injure myself, and they will not be able to find aid for me," Lassendira said, shifting nervously.  "They worry even more since you arrived, Zaria; after all, I must care for you first and foremost, and how can I do that should I break a wing, or a leg?"

When Ouranos left what Zaria should call him to her, Lassendira blanched slightly.  She hadn't even thought about that, and there was a part of her that honestly hoped that Ouranos would want to be involved in Zaria's life.  She drew in a breath before glancing between both of them, ruffling her feathers every few seconds as she thought.

"Well... I want you to be involved in her life," Lassendira said, her voice somewhat distant, as though she were half speaking to herself, and half speaking to Zaria and Ouranos.  "But, at the same time... no, there is no 'but, at the same time', is there," she said (and this part was mostly to herself) before she turned to Ouranos.  "I am aware that this must all be very new and sudden for you.  After all, when we parted ways, neither of us knew if we'd ever see each other again--much less for anything like this to happen.  But, if you are willing... I would love it if you would be involved in her life."

"She's quite the talented flyer, alright," Ouranos agreed heartily with Zaria, nodding emphatically as well. "I can't say that I've seen anyone else with as much raw talent as she has, and that's saying quite a lot, considering the number of aerial acrobatics shows I've seen." He chuckled lightly. "I really think that you would do marvelously in a tournament, and I think that you should go for it if you get another chance to."

As Lassendira began to address the delicate question of what his relationship would be with Zaria, Ouranos couldn't help shifting slightly in nervousness. He'd never been faced with more than just the distant thought of parenthood (he'd thought that he was still a long way from it, considering he had just been about to ascend the throne when he'd been brought here), and as such, he hadn't gotten so far as even thinking about what kind of parent he'd be. However, he'd grown fond of Lassendira after he'd met her, but much like her, he'd been under the impression that he might likely never see her again. That, and the fact that as soon as he'd gotten back to his temporary dwelling with Sekhmet, his worries had gone back to their current predicament of being stranded in a strange world.

However, over the past few months, Sekhmet had grown increasingly independent, and now spent more time away from their cave than she did there. In fact, Ouranos was beginning to get the impression that instead of him taking care of her, she was becoming more independent of the two of them. Perhaps it was time for him to seek a life for himself as well...and he couldn't think of a better one to be landed with than the two Soveri he'd just run into once again. Nevertheless, the decision was ultimately up to Lassendira - after all, she was Zaria's mother, and he would understand if she didn't want him around. Still though, he knew that now, especially after having met Zaria on top of seeing her mother once again, that he wanted to be a permanent part of their lives. After all, even if he hadn't known about his own child until today, he wanted the best for her.

Luckily for Ouranos, his trepidation was very quickly washed away by what Lassendira had to say on the topic. He couldn't help but flutter his wings slightly in delight at her enthusiasm, an enthusiasm which he wholeheartedly shared. "It is indeed very new to me indeed...but at the same time, it was the most delightful surprise I could possibly have discovered in my wanderings today. It's...more than I'd ever could have imagined." He managed a breathless grin in between words. "If it would be alright by you, I would love to be as involved as you would allow me." At another afterthought, Ouranos chuckled again. "Plus, this might finally give you the chance you needed to go and sweep those judges at the Tournament of the Sky-Dancers off their feet."

Lassendira could not hope but beam when Ouranos fluttered his wings with enthusiasm.  She turned to Zaria, who had begun to hop slightly as she smiled brightly.

"Can I call you Papa, then?  Or maybe just Dad?" she asked.  Lassendira smiled as she preened the younger Soveris' head feathers, a small chuckle in her throat before she turned back to Ouranos.

"It is more than all right by me for you to be involved in her life.  I... I had rather hoped that you would want to be," she said, looking down slightly as she lazily shifted one of her front claws through the black sand in front of her.  After another moment, she said, "Ah--but this is the first time you have seen an ocean, you said?  That means you've never set foot in one, either, am I right?" she asked.

Ouranos chuckled as he grinned brightly back at Lassendira and Zaria – his daughter…their daughter. That was something he was going to have to get used to, but he had the feeling that it wouldn’t be difficult. After all, now that he finally got to look at her in this new light, he could begin to pick out bits of himself in her, down to her bright golden eyes. “You may call me whatever you please,” he replied. “I like the sound of both of those.”

“And I’m glad that you want me around,” he said to Lassendira, the somewhat goofy grin still plastered across his face. He had the feeling that wouldn’t be going away for a while. “Plus, it gives me an excuse to get to see you regularly too,” he added with a chuckle. When she mentioned the ocean, he nodded in reply, his gaze wandering back to the open expanse of water. It had been almost entirely forgotten in the face of the excitement of their conversation, but now that it was brought to his attention once again, he returned to marveling at it. “So, do you know where all of this water came from? I mean, I’ve seen lakes and ponds and such, and those usually originate from rivers in the mountains. I can’t imagine there’s a river big enough to create this though.”

"My best guess as to where all of that water originated from would be... well, from multiple rivers," Lassendira said.  "There are several rivers, both on this continent and on the Lambastian continent, that eventually make it to the ocean."

"There's also the rain!" Zaria chirped.  "I heard that one of the reasons why ocean water is salty is because of some of the stuff that gets mixed into the rain from the air around it," she said before hop-skipping into the shallow water just off of the shore.

"Yes, there's also the rain, Zaria," Lassendira said, chuckling.  "Another factor that contributes to the saltiness of the ocean water is the rocks the water travels over.  I... would not recommend trying to drink the water from the ocean," she added sheepishly.
