In contrast to the Dead Coast, Sa'fir Coast is jokingly referred to as the world's largest pepper deposit because of its black sand beaches. They attract tourists, who can enjoy the tropical landscape of Barakka without facing its harsh environments. (+2 Endurance)

Thankful for nothing

[Leon Raiden | Noel Raiden]

Sitting on the counter Noel watched the timer on the clock. It would the first year that her and her brother were stable enough to celebrate Thanksgiving. Before it used to be them on the streets wishing that time of year to be over due to it being cold. They used to have nothing, except each other, no home, no heat, no education, nothing. It was always hard for them to think good positive thoughts during this time of the year due to everything they lacked. It would all bubble up on them and make them horrible, more so than how they usually felt. The oven timer went off with a ding and Noel jumped down to and opened the oven door.

Leon walked into the kitchen as he saw his sister pulling out a small turkey from the oven. "Wow, it actually doesn't look burnt," he jabbed at his sister.

"Ha, ha very funny, surprisingly I do know how to use a oven," she set the hot turkey on the stove to cool.

Sitting down at one of the bar stools that went under part of the kitchen counter Leon pulled out two slips of paper, "so will there be anything else tasty to eat tonight?"

"There will be the mashing of potatoes. Possibly this can of green beans," she pointed the can sitting on the counter, "and even maybe some corn from this can," she pointed to can that sat next to the green beans as she laughed.

Leon chuckled, "sounds like we will be eating like kings and queens."

Noel leaned against the counter on the opposite side of her brother, "what with the papers?"

"You and I will be both write down something we are thankful for. Then after dinner we will share," he handed her the other slip of paper.

"Oh okay, I guess," she took the paper and grabbed a pen that was lying around. She tapped the it on the counter thinking. What was she thankful for? They had a roof over there head, a job sort of, and even an appropriate education. Then she thought further back, to the times when they had nothing. Small little thoughts came into her mind. Her brother whispering that it would be okay, the little reassuring smiles they would give each other when they knew it was need. The small things that made everyday bearable.

When they finished writing they folded the papers and set them aside. Leon stood up, "do you need any help with the cooking?"

"Sure as long as you don't burn anything," she grabbed the potato's and set them in front of Leon. "You can peal these and the rinse them and I'll get a cutting board and chop the up in cubes," Noel opened a drawer and got out a knife.

"Alright then," Leon dug around in search for the potato peeler before getting annoyed that he couldn't find it.

Turning around he was about to complain when he saw Noel holding the peeler in her hand, "looking for this?"

"Thank you," he snagged it from her.

"God frackin' damnit how in the world does this work?!" Leon angryly attempted to peel potato's.

Noel looked over and started laughing, "I asked if you could peel the potato's not mutilate them."

"It's harder than it looks, okay!" he set the stuff down.

"Alright how about we switch, I'll do that part and you can chop them up and put them in this pot," she placed her knife on the counter.

"Anything but peeling," Leon stepped away. Noel rolled her eyes and started peeling. It wasn't hard at all personally she found it better than chopping.

Once they were done with the potatoes she put the pot on the stove to boil. Turning back around she decided to pop the can tops off of the green beans and corn. Dumping them into separate boils she set them to the side. Noel decided that she would wait to heat them up closer to the potato's being done. "Alright so we have a few minutes until the potato's boil. What do you want to do?" she asked her brother who had sat back down.

"We are going to play football," he answered matter of factly.

She looked at the window at the rain that was pouring down, "uh no thank you. I'll pass but you can go and play. Just don't be mad if you go get a cold and I say 'I told you so' okay."

"Yeah no, not real football. Since we don't have tv to watch the game we are going to play paper football," he took some more paper and started to fold it into a triangle.

"Yeah okay I'll bite," she bent on the other side of the counter and put her fingers up. Pinning the paper football between the table and his finger he flicked it trying to make between her fingers.

20 minutes later and Noel was leading by two points. The timer on the stove went off and she set the football down. Walking over to the stove she removed the pot from the burner. With the help of Leon who held the pot she drained the water.

Noel instructed Leon to mash the potatos as she went and set the table with the silverware and plates. When she laid the last plate down she took a look at their rickty old table. It was no where near fancy but it was just right for them. Walking backing into the small kitchened she laughed, "hey there called mashed potatoes not pureed potatos." Taking over she added the finishing touches to the food and heated up the corn and green beans. Leon poured him a drink and took a seat at the table.

After setting everything on the table they dug in and had one of the best Thanksgiving they had ever had. Though both of them kept it in their mind that it wasn't because of the food, or the roof over their heads. It was because they were together like it had always been since they were born. Both of them showed each other their slips of paper after they were finished eating. Laughing at each other when they saw what they wrote because they had both wrote the same thing. 'I'm thankful for nothing', because when they had nothing they had everything just by being there for each other.
