It was supermarket day today.

Molly sighed, carrying the basket she always used with two hands as she perused the marketplace. A few random vegetables, and fruits littered the bottom of the large basket, and she glanced down at in in annoyance. She was running out of money, and she’d hardly bought anything at all. She’d make a few decent meals, but it’d be leftovers for weeks. Or a call home to mom and dad for a bit of help. She loathed calling her parents for help; she loved them, but she was trying desperately to be independent. It wasn’t working out all that well; her job as a ship mechanic was slow going, and she got little business at the shop with the more experience male workers taking most of them out of her hands. She was getting to hate her job; if she could just save up enough to start her own shop, she’d be good.

As it was, she didn’t even have enough for some good food at the market. Molly sighed, and crumpled up her list; she didn’t have enough for half of what was on there. Tucking a stray strand of gray hair behind her ear, she growled, earning a weird look from a nearby merchant. Maybe she could resort to thievery. She snorted at the thought; bad idea. She sighed again. Well, it looked like it’d be leftovers for a few weeks, and cold meals. And maybe her mom could ship some food parcels into her. That’d be amazing. Molly loved Fianna’s cooking (As did the rest of her family). Molly turned and started back down the cobblestone streets, hair swinging behind her and her eyes on the ground.

((Note to readers: This is an experiment RP. See if you can guess what we're experimenting. You can always PM for details if you're really curious. XD ))

A day off could be both a blessing and a curse. While on one hand, it was nice to be 'off the job' for a day or two, it was a slight dilemma when you had nothing better to do instead. As much as he might have griped about not liking what he did, to be honest, Griffin couldn't really think of much else better that he could do with his time. As the son of a bounty hunter, it was only natural that his father had trained him in his own footsteps, and now, it seemed like all of Vidown's work had paid off. His youngest son had soaked in everything he had to teach like a sponge, and had now moved on to do work of his own. True, Griff was good at what he did, but he'd always felt as if he hadn't had much of a chance to explore other fields and professions before committing to his. However, he did pretty well, and made enough off of bounties to support himself and keep up a place of his own, and for the time being, that was all he asked for.

Today though, he had granted himself a rare day - perhaps two - off of work to take time for himself. He had happened to be in the vicinity, so not particularly wanting to go far, he'd simply settled for wandering about the small town of Nabias. There wasn't anything particularly spectacular about the place, it was just your average town without any particular sights or attractions to boast. At this rate, he thought to himself, he would likely only spend one day here before hitting the road again. If he stayed any longer, he felt as if he'd die of boredom. Completely decked out in his armor, as he almost always was (you could never know when a vengeful enemy could be around the corner, after all), he meandered down the street, taking no notice of the passersby who either stared at him as they walked by him or hurried away in the opposite direction at his approach. He happened to be looking into the window of a passing shop when he almost ran into someone coming the other way down the pavement. Griff managed to just barely avoid colliding with the pedestrian, managing to almost lose his own balance in the process as he teetered for a moment on the curb before finally catching himself. "Sorry!" he mumbled hastily as he glanced up at the woman he had come close to knocking over, his voice contrite although his face remained hidden beneath the impenetrable visor of his helmet.

[Gawd, that was a lot harder than it should have been. XD Maybe it'll get easier as we go along though, hehe.]

Molly would have headed home in peace. She would have gone back to her tiny, sparsely furnished presentment and made a very small dinner to eat for the next two days. Instead, she was bowled over backwards by something hard and immovable. Her basket went flying, and she landed hard in the dirt, nearly flipping head over heels as a small cloud of dust rose around her. Griff hadn’t come close to knocking her over, no. He’d knocked her over completely! Molly was so thrown for a loop, she barely had time to utter a curse as she looked up at the man who had knocked her over. “Hey!” she cried, rubbing her bottom indignantly. She looked down at her hands, now scratched from the fall. They were cut and bleeding, and she could feel them stinging in the cool air.

She wiped them on her pants, growling indignantly as she stood up. “Watch where you’re going you-” But the words died in her throat when she beheld the remains of her fruit and vegetables, having been accidentally trampled by pedestrians who hadn’t seen them until the last moment. Molly stared a them, horrified at the knowledge that her food for the month was gone and she was out of money. “Oh. My. God.” Uttering the foulest curse she could think of, she stomped over and grabbed her now half destroyed basket, before she stormed back over to the armored man.

“What’s your problem? Do you know how much I spent on those things! I won’t eat for another month now because of you! As if this day couldn’t get worse!” She didn’t seemed intimidated by the armor; her uncle Talyc and her mother’s friend, Vega’s husband wore the same. She’d seen it before, and she knew they could be taken down as easily as any human. “You incredible idiot! I can’t…I can’t believe…Uugh!” She threw her arms in the air, tears of frustration gathering in her eyes. What was she going to do now?

Well, apparently Griff hadn't managed his little stunt to avoid collision quite as well as he'd first thought after all. When he'd finally managed to set himself back down firmly on two feet, he glanced over to make sure that the person who'd run into him was alright as well. Oh shab, he thought to himself as his gaze passed over a young woman who clearly hadn't had as much luck in her fight with gravity as he had. "Are you alright?" His voice was clearly concerned as he swooped down to rush to her aid, worried that he might have done her serious damage. Despite the fact that he was a bounty hunter, he still didn't like the idea of hurting people, especially when they didn't deserve it. Now, it seemed he'd managed to inadvertently put a damper on someone's day, simply because he hadn't been paying attention to where he was going. "I'm so sorry, I-"

He didn't get a chance to finish his sentence when he was cut off by a decidedly irate voice which, oddly enough, sounded somewhat strangely familiar. However, that was the least of his concerns right now, as he was faced with the more pressing matter of dealing with a woman who was now clearly furious with him for his unintentional inattentiveness. He was rather taken aback by the colorful language which had been spat angrily at him, and it alone made him take a step back, giving the young woman some space, in case she decided to take a swing at him next or something. A month? His surprise doubled when he heard her furious outburst, and his guilt multiplied by even more. "I...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...I could pay you back...I mean..." He stammered agitatedly as he tried to patch up the damage that he had done, feeling more and more like a terrible human being with each passing moment. In his defense, the fault had partially been hers as well, since they both hadn't been paying attention to where they were going, but the thought didn't cross his mind in his current frenzy to fix the situation.

Griff stumbled over his words as he stuttered almost incomprehensibly, now thoroughly flustered. He didn't exactly fit the stereotype of 'tough, I-don't-give-a-damn-about-you bounty hunter'; in fact, he was naturally a rather sweet, meek guy. Being the youngest of his three siblings, he had always been the 'baby' of the group, and hence, all of the confidence seemed to have gone to his older brother and sister, while he still remained as shy as ever. Needless to say, this little encounter was more than enough to throw him completely off balance. However, he caught a brief glance at the young woman's face, and something flashed in his mind. Frowning slightly behind his visor, he looked a little closer; even twisted in righteous fury, he could have sworn he recognized that face. It had been many long years, but could it possibly be..."...Molly?"

“You, stupid, incompetent, waking pile of armor!” Molly continued to bluster. She wasn’t going to eat for a month. A though sand different possibilities ran through her mind. She could stay at home with her parents for a while, but she’d lose her job. She could ask Malachi or Max for help, but she hated their smugness about her needing them to support herself. And she wasn’t sure she wanted to ask uncle Talyc for money. She especially didn’t want to ask him. He had a rather foul temper, although he was always nice to her. Secretly, she knew he liked to dote on her, but she didn’t dare ask him. And she wasn’t going to ask her mom and dad. They were doing their own thing, and she was loathe to bother them.

“What am I going to do?” she groaned, slapping a hand over her eyes and throwing her head back. “Oh, you’ll be paying me back all right!’ she growled, rounding on the man who was stumbling through an apology. Go figure. A giant, armored bounty hunter was frightened of her? Sheesh, bounty hunters weren’t made of very strong stuff anymore. “This is ridiculous.” She just wanted to punt the man across the marketplace and get on with her ruined day. Or month. She’d have to take as much extra work as she could at the hangar. That was nearly impossible. She barely got any work as it was.

No one wanted a woman fixing their ship, even if she was really good at it. She’d learned a lot from her aunt Robin and her father, and she could not only fix any problem, but she could fly with the best of them. It’s where her love of the sky and stars originated; when she was little, she loved to sit in the cockpit of Lady Vianne and just pretend she was flying through space. And as she got older, she actually could fly through space with her father. It just made her happy. Molly quickly diverted her thoughts back to the man, mouth opening to tell him exactly how much he owed her, when her own name startled her into silence.

She peered at him in confusion, and shook her head. His voice sounded familiar. Yes, it did indeed. She thought long and hard about who he could be, before the answer finally came to her. “Griffin? Are you freaking kidding me? You’re the idiot under the armor? What the heck are you doing here?”

Even through the armor and the normally impassive helmet, Griffin's surprise was almost palpable. He hadn't seen Molly or her brother since, well, a long, long time ago. They had been fast childhood friends, but he and Graham had gone on to train with their father to take up his mantle while she and her siblings had gone on to do...well, whatever they had gone on to do. He hadn't been in contact with them for so long that he had no idea what they were even up to these days; he hadn't even known that she (and perhaps even the rest of her family) was planetside, and just happened to be in town at the same time as he happened to be here. Briefly, just for a moment, his mortification took a backseat to his surprised delight at seeing his best friend from his childhood days once again after the years of separation. Who would have thought that this had been in store for him when he decided to stop by here for a day or two?

Suddenly remembering that he still had his helmet on, he quickly reached up to pop the seal and pull it off, revealing a dark-haired and beaming - if slightly sheepish - face as he grinned down at her. "I can't believe it's really you!" He exclaimed, wonder in his voice as he swept over her with bright eyes. "So you do remember me!" His excitement seemed to double at the revelation. She had changed so much over the years; she'd most certainly grown out of her awkward (if charming) adolescent stage and into womanhood, and it suddenly hit him like a brick wall that the years had been very generous to her. Griff blinked lightly as he got a proper look at her for the first time; the adorable, cutesy little girl he'd known had grown into a woman...and an undeniably beautiful one at that, once he saw past the irritation in her face.

He caught himself staring, and quickly tore his gaze away, clearing his throat nervously, suddenly just as jumpy as he'd been moments before. For goodness sake, he hadn't seen her in years! Even though she had been his best friend back then, he hardly knew her now. A light blush tinted his cheeks, although it could easily have been mistaken for his embarrassment for his clumsiness. "Uhhh, I'm just here, taking a day or two off of work. You know how it goes." He shuffled his feet lightly, chancing a glance up at Molly's face once again. "Listen, I'm so terribly sorry everything; it was all my fault. Could I make up for it somehow? Perhaps help you buy some more groceries to replace the ones I've managed to ruin?" A sudden thought seemed to hit him out of nowhere. "Was that all you were planning on eating for the entire month?" This time, concern colored his voice as he peered at her, worry managing to push aside his embarrassment for a moment.

“Yeah, it’s me,” she sighed, her gaze shifting to her destroyed groceries. She turned back to fix Griffin with a half amused, half annoyed glare. “Yeah, I remember you. So, I guess all that play fighting finally paid off, eh? Became a bounty hunter like your father?” She bent over to try to sift through what was left of the contents of her baskets, then sighed when she realized nothing was left. She straightened back up and turned to face him. She didn’t seem happy to see him, but she didn’t seem angry that he was here either. She was ambivalent towards his presence. He’d been her best friend when they were younger. They’d done everything together and had been practically glued at the hip. But now, both of them had grown up. Molly was older than Griff by a few years, and while he’d still retained some of his boyish charm, he was definitely a man now.

When he popped the seal on his helmet and lifted it free, she was struck with how much he’d grown. His face was no longer cute and chubby, but strong, angular, and decidedly male. He wasn’t bad looking either, she mused, taking in his darker skin and dark hair. His eyes were white, like his father’s, and he seemed to resemble Vidown in more ways than one, save for the different shade of hair on his head. Molly looked him up and down, not ashamed of her observations, then tilted her head to the side. “Wish I did. I don’t get days off. I just…I just get days.” She snorted, looking forlornly at her basket. “Yeah, I don’t get much business out here, so I’m almost completely broke after rent. So…yeah…” She turned a wry look back on him, and looked faintly amused, if not exasperated.

“Yes, that was my food for the month. I didn’t have as much as I thought today, so it’s a small haul.” She waved her hand dismissively. “No, don’t worry about it. I’ll scrape by somehow.” She was loathe to take money from anyone, even if he had ruined her groceries to begin with. “Listen, how about we catch up back at my place, because standing here awkwardly does not work for me. Come on,” she said with a sigh, grabbing his hand and dragging him behind her (Quite a feat considering he was covered in armor). “It’s a short walk. So…” She started along the street, still pulling him along behind her, and took a small path that led off down what looked like a bike trail. It didn’t take them long to reach her apartment, and she swung the door open and paused to glance at him. There was hardly any furniture; just a couch, a chair, and a tv, with a tiny kitchen and a door that led to a bedroom. “Sorry it’s a mess. I’ve only been here for a few months.” Well, more like seven, but who was counting? “Uh…are you hungry? I could…probably figure out something to eat. Make yourself comfortable.”

Griff chuckled lightly at her comment; he seemed more delighted than anyone would have expected at the fact that she did indeed remember who he was. It felt like it was just yesterday when they had done anything and everything together, and when all of life had been one great, big, grand adventure. But now, life, along with his work and responsibilities, had somewhat lost its innocent charm after having seen the world for what it truly was. Or, at least what making a living for oneself was like. Back then, they'd sworn that they would be "best friends forever", and that nothing would ever tear them apart...but times had changed and people went their separate ways, so like so many other childhood friendships, theirs faded into the backs of their minds, to become shadows, memories of a past long gone.

However, now that she was so close at hand once again, he felt as if he could just erase all of the years lost, and it would be just like old times again. But regardless of what he felt, he knew that in the time spent apart, a lot had changed. For goodness' sake, he didn't even know what she did for a living! That realization came with a pang of nostalgia and the regret that they hadn't stayed in contact. Nevertheless, the important thing now was that they were together again, and he was planning on making the most of what little time they had together. "Yeah, I guess you could say that," he replied lightly with a shrug. "It was really more his choice than mine. But I make enough to get by, so I suppose he taught me well." As the mention of her ruined food came up once again, another twinge of heart-wrenching guilt tore at him. Before he had a chance to protest though, she had brushed it off and proposed that they go to catch up back at her place. Griff certainly wasn't about to just let the matter go like that, but he figured it would be easier to talk things over in general when they weren't standing out in the middle of the street, providing free entertainment for the passing pedestrians.

He felt a small, inexplicable thrill jolt through his chest when she grabbed his hand, and he obediently allowed himself to be towed along, following her like a puppy on a leash. True to her word, her apartment was only a few minutes' walk away, and they soon came upon it. He glanced around at his surroundings as she led him into her home, his gaze curious. "This is a nice, cozy place," he commented mildly with a light smile. "It certainly beats living on the move," he added with a small chuckle, speaking from experience. "And no, no, I'm fine, I assure you." He refused to take anything that was hers, especially considering the mishap he had just managed to cause back out on the street. Griff was still determined to pay her back, but he'd figure out how he'd go about doing that later, perhaps after they'd had a chance to catch up on all those years apart. After all, he was only here for a day or two, but he couldn't think of a better way to spend it than here with her. "So, what is it that you do?" he asked curiously, glancing over at her. She had been interested in so many things as a kid, especially the skies and flying (much like her own father), but unlike her, he wasn't able to quite as easily guess what her current profession could possibly be.

Molly tried very hard not to wonder what eh thought of her terribly small apartment. He said ‘cozy’ but eh could be thinking something else entirely. It was slightly embarrassing, but she decided to brush it off for the moment. Griff had always been a nice guy. When they were little, everything was an adventure. They’d run around together, causing mishap and mayhem, with her often the one getting in trouble and him swooping in to rescue her with a clever excuse. Molly smiled faintly, her back turned to him, when she thought of that. He’d always been there for her, her best friend, but…they’d grown apart. She hadn’t known how it’d happened. One day, they just woke up, and they were forced into the world of adults. They’d parted, gone their separate ways, started their separate lives. She hadn’t seen Griff and his family in years, and he felt like a stranger to her now. Grown up, wearing armor, with the face of a man instead of a boy. It made her heart do weird little flip-flops, but she brushed it off as nothing.

Both she and Griff had their own lives, their own jobs, maybe, in his case, their own families. How was she to know he wasn’t married? At his words, Molly turned around, shutting the cabinet door she hadn’t even realized she’d opened. Seeing him again had brought back so many memories that she’d long repressed. It made her uncomfortable, but it also made her…well, she didn’t know what, but she knew she missed him. She didn’t have any friends here, and no family, and none of her co-workers wanted to hang around with her. It had been a very, very lonely seven months. “Yeah, I suppose. Did you ever settle down? Or can I assume by that, that you don’t have a family hanging around anywhere?” She chuckled in jest, but she was honestly curious; what would she do if he said he did? She wasn’t sure. She strode out of the kitchen and settled in the chair almost across from him. She smiled slightly, but fidgeted in her seat.

“Oh, uh, I work at the local hangar. Well, sit around and do nothing is more like it. All the men that work there convince most of my customers I’m an incompetent idiot and can’t fix breakfast, let alone a ship. Even if I AM better than them at most things.” She snorted angrily, looking annoyed at her own words. “I used to work on ships. Now I just hang around the hangar and hope someone is smart enough not to listen to those sexist pigs. But no dice. Thus, why I’m so broke.” She shrugged lightly. “But I manage. What about you? How is your family? And how’s the business? How long will you be here?” She paused, and then looked indecisive, biting her lip for a moment, before raising her eyes to his. “Your welcome to stay here for a few days…if-if you want. The couch pulls out into a bed, believe it or not.”

Griffin couldn’t help but wonder how Molly felt about seeing him again after so long, especially considering the circumstances of how they’d bumped into each other (and quite literally as well). Inside, he deeply hoped that she was as happy to see him again after the years of separation as he was to see her, although he had to admit that this chance encounter had thrilled him more than he might have otherwise expected. Sure, it was exciting to see an old childhood friend again after so long, but…he felt as if he was more delighted at seeing her again than he might have been, had she been Malachi or Max instead. He pondered on the odd realization for a moment, then finally attributed it to the fact that he had simply always been closer to Molly than to her brothers. That was the only possible reason after all, right?

His gaze followed her as she strolled back out of the kitchen. It was hard to believe that this was the same person he’d been so close to, all those years ago. Despite how much she’d changed over the time spent apart though, he could still, without a doubt, see the girl he had once known under all that was unfamiliar about her. At her question, he chuckled lightly in reply, although there seemed to be a hint of wistfulness in the sound. “Hit it on the nose, right in one,” he replied with a hint of amusement as he regarded her, taking her cue as she sat down to take a seat in an adjacent chair. “I guess I just never met the perfect person for me, you know? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that my job doesn’t really allow for much normal interaction with normal people.” He shrugged. “How about you?” he asked in reply, curious. He guessed by her housing arrangements that she was in the same boat as him, but he couldn’t know for sure. After all, he would have expected someone as pretty and charming as her to have had much better luck on the relationship front than himself. But nonetheless, he found himself hoping otherwise, for some inexplicable reason. He decided not to dwell on the odd impulse, and instead set it aside to be pondered upon at a later time, when he was alone.

“So, I guess you never did outgrow your love of ships, did you?” His voice was fond as he thought back on the days when she used to tell him all about flying crafts and her dreams of flying in the Lady Vianne with her father. He chuckled lightly; some things never did change after all. His gentle, kindhearted expression hardened slightly though as she described her current job condition to her. If there was one thing that Griffin knew about Molly, it was that she was good at what she was passionate about – a fact that wouldn’t have changed over the years. “Well, you should know very well that they’re all idiots,” he growled, his usually bright and cheerful personality seeming to darken momentarily at the thought of others putting her down, just because she happened to be a woman. “You ought to show them otherwise, or I could go and give them a talking-to for you.”

He sighed softly as she questioned him about his own current conditions. “I’m doing alright, I suppose. The rest of the family is fine; I can tell you now that they probably haven’t changed much since you last saw them, save for the fact that Graham and Banji are both grown up as well. They’re still the same kids you knew back then though. Business is good, for now. I make enough to get by in relative comfort, but sometimes, I can’t help but feel like there was more out there for me than just taking down bounties.” He looked thoughtful for a moment, then shrugged, his gaze refocusing once again on Molly’s face. “I’d only planned on being in town for a day or two. You know, to catch a little respite from the job before getting back to work again,” he replied simply, tilting his head slightly as he regarded her, as if trying to  figure out exactly what it was that was going through her thoughts. Her invitation though, came completely out of the blue and caught him off guard, and he blinked in surprise for a moment as her words registered. “Oh, ummm…I really wouldn’t want to be a burden on you, especially considering the fact that you have many more important things to do than keep up with having a guest.” He glanced away momentarily, then back at her again. “Plus, I have yet to repay you myself either. Re: I Saw a Star [P, Flame and I]

Griffin was right to wonder about how Molly felt; even she didn’t know herself. A myriad of mixed emotions confused the heck out of her, and she found her fingers twisting together nervously, fidgeting slightly in her seat. She’d never had anyone over her house. She hadn’t been here long enough to make friends, and she would never in a million years invite a single coworker to her home. Griffin was familiar, a childhood friend, someone she could trust, but she still wasn’t sure about how she felt about seeing him. When Molly had left her family, she’d left behind her old life. She talked regularly to her mother and father, and to her brothers, but she hardly ever saw them. She was, as she often tried to tell them ‘an independent woman’ now. She didn’t need their help, and visiting home often would only give them the impression that she hated it here…which she did. Seeing Griffin did funny things to her sense of independence. He’d always been there for her, always been her best friend. She’d told him things she’d never dreamed of telling her family, and he knew some of her darkest secrets. He was a familiar, comforting face…but her made her twitchy.

She felt like she had to move, to get up and do something, but she forced herself to stay put. Molly realized she should stop worrying so much about her tummy butterflies, and start worrying about keeping up with the conversation. “Really?” she asked, her eyelids fluttering over startlingly blue eyes. “I just assumed…” She fell silent, and realized the tummy butterflies were fluttering wildly now; why did the idea of him not having someone special make her even more nervous and giddy? She had no idea, but she wasn’t sure she liked it. Molly frowned deeply, and shook her head, her hair, in varying shades of gray, whispering softly across her shoulders. “Nope, not me. I haven’t been here very long, and most of the guys I’ve met are complete jerks, a.k.a., my co-workers. I feel like an antisocial hermit, but I don’t see any point socializing when they think they’re better than you.” She scowled darkly, looking annoyed. No, her coworkers, all men, really didn’t see her as anything more than a hanger-on, just hanging around the shop, waiting for business that she’d never get.

The scowl on her face lightened into a smile when he mentioned her love of ships, and her eyes brightened with memories of her father’s beloved Lady Vianne and the days she’d spent relaying her tales of (At least to her child-like mind) grandeur explorations to Griffin each time her father took her on a trip to the moon or into orbit. Those had been the happiest days of her life, truly. She really couldn’t help the fond smile on her face. “Thank you, Griff, but I doubt they’d appreciate a fully armored man waltzing in to give them a ‘talking to.’ As much as I’d absolutely love to see that, I do still need that job, however little it pays.” She chuckled lightly, tilting her head at him and shooting him a half amused, half adoring look. He was still the same Griff from her childhood, always defending, always ready to leapt o her defense. When they were kids, she’d been the one to defend him most of the time, even though he often tried to repay the favor. He was younger than her, and smaller, and far shyer. She’d taken it upon herself to deal with the bullies who dared to pick on him; many a child had gone home with a black eye or a face full of mud, courtesy of Molly’s hard-handed and angry little six year old temper.

Molly blinked and realized Griffin was speaking again, and focused her attention back onto him and off of her memories; seeing him had brought so much flooding back, it was almost difficult to concentrate. “That’s good. My family is exactly the same too. Go figure, right?” She chuckled wryly. “If you’re unhappy with your current line of work, why not find something that really makes you happy? There’s plenty of opportunities around here.” Realizing what she was implying, that he find a job in the same place she was currently living, she quickly gestured with her hand. “You know, plenty of work all over in general. Not just, you know, around here.” She didn’t want him to think she was trying to coerce him to stay; that was certainly NOT what she was doing. At his refusal to take her offer, she gave him a blank stare. “Have you heard anything I said? My life consists of basically doing nothing at all. If you don’t stay, I’ll be insulted and bored. Besides, if you want to pay me back, you can buy me a ridiculously nice dinner. Haven’t had one of those in a while. There’s a nice place here in town…And I don’t know about you, but I’m starving.” She tilted her head, looking him up and down. “Are you staying on a ship? Do you have any other clothes besides your armor?”

((I think our experiment is failing...XD))

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

Griffin could sense the discomfort in Molly’s deportment as she fidgeted in her seat across from him. He couldn’t help but wonder what it was that was making her feel so unsettled; was it him? Had she really just invited him over to be polite, but in reality, didn’t want him here at all? Did he make her feel uncomfortable around him somehow? He fretted slightly at the possibilities; he sincerely hoped that they weren’t true. Without the slightest doubt in the world, he was absolutely delighted to see Molly again after such a long period of separation, and he secretly wished that she felt the same way about seeing him. He wasn’t exactly sure why it was so important that she feel glad to see him again, but he instinctively knew that inside, he would be crushed if she wanted nothing to do with him anymore.

Perhaps it was simply because they had been so close for so long; he felt as if something, some vestige of that close-knit relationship that they had once shared had to have remained somewhere, deep within he memories, and he only dared to hope that perhaps it could be reawakened, even after all this time, just by seeing him again. That was certainly how it had happened for him. As soon as he had recognized her in the street, everything had come flooding back to him, and he’d be struck by a wave of nostalgia for the days when everything had been so simple, when he had been even closer to her than he had been to his siblings. He’d thought that she’d felt the same way but…maybe he had been wrong after all. Maybe she wanted to move on with her own life and shed him along with her past. The thought stung him deep down, but he brushed it aside. After all, she was entitled to her own life, even if it meant one without him in it.

He’d fallen silent for a moment, his gaze distant as he dwelt upon the disheartening possibilities although he tried to hide his inner fears from the woman sitting across from him. Her voice stirred him back to their conversation and out of his musings, and he glanced up at her in mild surprise. He vaguely realized that he’d never noticed just how blue her eyes were, how the gentle contours and angles of her face that gave her a fierce, determined, and proud edge, yet hid a demeanor that was kind, gentle, and understanding, or how the distant, misty look in her clear, sapphire gaze marked her as the dreamer she was and had always been since childhood. For just a brief moment, he seemed lost in her eyes, in his memories, and in something else he couldn’t quite place a finger on. However, she shook her head lightly and spoke, breaking the moment, and he shook himself, forcing his mind to return to what she was saying.

He chuckled lightly, although he sounded somewhat wistful as he spoke. “Perhaps you give my courtship skills a little more credit than they deserve,” he laughed lightly, his voice joking. “I don’t recall ever being a big hit with the ladies as a kid. I think you were the only girl not to label me as a ‘geek’ and shun me for being who I was.” His smile was affectionate as he regarded her, remembering the little girl who had always been there at his side to fight with him and for him, even more so than his brother had. “Well, let me be the one to tell you that those men clearly don’t have half a brain between them if they don’t see you for the amazing person that you are. You deserve so much better than any of them, I’ll have you know. Don’t short-change yourself and settle for less than you’re worth.” There was a quiet vehemence in his voice as he spoke, his words clearly coming straight from the heart, although more from instinct than anything else. He believed everything he said; that there were very few men out there who could possibly deserve a woman as remarkable as ‘his Molly’.

At her comment about his possible visit to the hangar that she worked at, he chuckled. “Well, if that’s what it takes to keep them from treating you like osik, then you can be assured that I’ll be down there within the hour to give them the hiding that they deserve. I wouldn’t be against dropping in every so often to make sure that they’re keeping to their word…and to visit you, of course.” His smile was slightly shy this time, a little of the old, bashful Griff she had known as a child poking through once again. Although he had grown out of his timidity for the most part – and he certainly had the stature, armor, and attitude to go with it – the same little boy was still buried under his appearance of ‘intimidating, invincible bounty hunter’. But Molly had been the first and only one to disarm him so, and he didn’t seem to mind it one bit.

He shrugged lightly. “Well, this is the only profession I know that I’m any good at, and certainly the only one that I’ve received any proper training in. It earns me enough to live in relative comfort, if you consider living as a nomad anything near ‘comfort’, and I can make a living out of it. I suppose I just don’t have the means, or maybe I just lack the willpower, to actually break away from what my dad always wanted me to do and try pursuing something different.” He raised a curious eyebrow at her. “However, I’m quite interested to know what suggestions you might possibly have on that front, in any case. You’re probably much more well-informed on that than I.” At her insistence that he stay with her, at least for a little while, he seemed hesitant for a moment, as if considering her offer again. It seemed that if nothing else, she did welcome his company after all, and that fact alone lifted his spirits. “Well, alright,” he said after a moment’s pause. “I’ll take you up on that offer if you’ll allow me to take you out to eat every day that I’m here, or at least cook for you, and let me buy you enough groceries to last you through this month to make up for the trouble that I’ve caused you.” There was a hint of mischief in his grin as he glanced over at her, although the sincerity was clear in his voice. “It might be nice to stay outside of my ship’s quarters for a little while, and I do have a few spare outfits, although I usually only use them as covers while I’m on the job. For the most part though, I’ll stay in my armor. After all, it’s pretty much a part of me, as it is.”

[Bahaha, yeah...I concur. x3 So...I think that experiment was quite thoroughly shot to haran. XD]

Re: I Saw a Star [P, Flame and I]

Molly  tried to ignore the blush creeping up her neck at his mention of ‘courtship skills.’ Only Griffin could make her nervous and happy all at the same time. She silently smiled to herself; he’d never changed. Still the same, sweet boy she’d known as a child. But once again, when she looked at him, she was sharply reminded that this was no child, and instead a man sat before her. Molly had looked down on Griffin for most of her life; not figuratively, but literally. He was always smaller than her, always shorter, and it brought out the protective streak in the young woman that she couldn’t deny. But now, it seemed, he’d hit his growth spurt like his brother had and had shot up like a weed. He was a good head or so taller than her, and Molly doubted she’d ever see him as her sweet little Griff whom she needed to protect from the world and those who would do him harm. Now it seemed, it would be the other way around. “I don’t think any of the ‘ladies’ thought you were available, Griff,” she quipped, sounding amused. “You did spend most of your time, if not all of it, with me after all. I  never went on a date when we were younger because the guys assumed the same about me. It was only after we…drifted apart that they felt it was safe to swoop in.”

A frown cross her features, and she furrowed her brow. “You weren’t a geek, Griff. I loved who you were…are…” Her eyes grew slightly wide when she realized what she’d said and the word she’d used, before she quickly amended the statement. It seemed he already had her tripping over her own words. When they were younger, this wouldn’t have been a problem. “I-I mean, you were always such a good person. I liked that about you. You didn’t care what other thought; you were just yourself, and never tried to be anyone or anything else. I found it admirable.” Phew. There. All better….Right? Well, sort of. Molly still felt like an irrevocable idiot. She leaned forward slightly, literally waving him off as he spoke. “Oh, don’t worry. I know very well what those men are worth, and I would never settle for one of them. They don’t even like me all that much. No worries there, I assure you.” Still, the conviction in his voice startled and alarmed her, while making her stomach do tiny little flip-flops and somersaults that left her feeling queasy and giddy all at the same time.

Still, she carefully kept her face schooled into a somewhat neutral expression, but for the small smile she left. “Well, if you think it’d work, I wouldn’t be all that adverse to it. I’m sure a man in full Mando rig could easily scare the…osik out of anyone who crossed him, right? And I wouldn’t mind some company now and then that had a friendly face instead of a scowling one.” Ah, there was the old Griff. Molly caught the glimpse of the shy, timid boy behind the mask of the confident, intimidating man, and she could help the surge of fondness and affection that threatened to overwhelm her. With a stubbornly firm hand, she tamped it down, and leaned back in the chair, crossing her legs primly. “Griff, if I could fly around like you do and get paid for it, I’d never wish for another life. But if you wanted something to do round here, there’s plenty of private security for the richer sect, and there’s a few jobs in the stores nearby. There’s mechanic positions too; they’re always looking to hire more men,” she huffed the last part, looking cross. Her cross expression, however, quickly melted when he took her up on her offer…and then some.

She blinked, startled at his own offer, and looked a little hesitant. “I don’t know, Griff. It wouldn’t be right. How about we…how about we order in then and we can discuss the details of you paying me back somewhere where a bunch of people won’t hear and give me weird looks. That’s definitely the lat thing I need.” She chuckled somewhat nervously, and rose gracefully from her seat, crossing the room to the phone. She quickly dialed and ordered Nerf steaks and Aurebesh soup. “They’ll be here in twenty minutes,” she said briskly, setting the phone back down on the receiver. She stood there awkwardly, fidgeting from foot to foot. “Soooo,” she began, looking like she had no idea what she would say or do now, which was, to be honest, fairly true. Not only had she not had company in months, but she’d never had a man in her apartment before in her life, even if it was only Griff. “Um…so, you said you had a few days off? What, uh, what brought you to this planet in particular?” D’oh. That sounded stupid. “Hey, how about a tour of my apartment?” Anything to get rid of the awkward, no matter how quick the tour would be. “It’s small but uh…sort of…nice…?”
