Millie's Winter Festival [4 slots open!]

Postby MillietheWarrior » 12/07/2013 2:45 AM

Winter Festival

The town square was usually a rather dull place during winter. It was always too cold to go out and spend time at the local bakery or the vendors. But on this particular evening, something special had happened and the square had been transformed from empty and gloomy, to bright and lively. There were lights hanging from every rooftop surrounding the square, and the smell of gingerbread wafted through the many vendors. There were people milling about here and there, some holding mugs of cocoa and chatting animatedly to one another as they fed the geese who called the fountain in the middle a temporary home. Some of them were sitting near a large, roaring fire, recounting stories of Christmases long past, or simply chatting with one another about what they were getting their families in terms of presented.

Off to the side, a small, cheery bakery was open all night, handing out free gingerbread and inviting customers in for more yummy treats. A roasted chestnut vendor was off to one side, offering people warm chestnuts to heat their chilled fingers and fill their bellies. And beside his cart, there was a table set up with free hot cocoa, which would be welcomed after spending the cold night out in the open air, visiting the various attractions. Beside the vendors was a petting zoo, filled with beautiful, winter-time animals, including a very large, very docile reindeer.

A bright, blaring, cheery Christmas tree stood over the entire scene, glowing with Christmas spirit and lights in blue and red and yellow and green. Beneath it sat a multitude of presents, all eagerly waiting to be opened by the participants. Inside each present sat a small token to be given out at the end of the contest, though no one quite knew what the tokens were.

Outside of the square, there is a storm raging, and it has brought more and more people  to the warmth of the fires and the homes. But it seems as if some sort of magic is protecting the small, cheerful gathering, and the snow seems to bounce off some sort of invisible wall, steering clear of the revelers. As you near the square, cheered by the bright lights and atmosphere around you, you’re suddenly aware that you are being watched by what appears to be a Equi Sygriff. She is covered in snow, but she doesn’t seem very cold, and clutched in her beak, there is a holly branch. Beside her, a steadfast little lamp glows brightly in welcome, guiding your way to the square and it’s warmth and welcome beyond. “Good evening!” the Sygriff calls, and she extends her wings in invitation. As she does so, the snow seems to stop falling around the two of you, and the magical barrier that protects the square is now protecting you from the cold.

“And welcome to the annual Holiday Festival! I’m so glad you could make it.” She seems to notice your confusion at being addressed by a seemingly random Sygriff, and quickly clarifies. “Oh, I’m the caretaker of this lovely little square. My name is Aura, and I decided to host this little shindig myself this year." She pointed over towards the cottage-looking bakery. “That’s my friend’s bakery, over there. Myself and a few others are giving away some lovely Christmas presents this year too. But you have to work for them!”

At the face you pull, she only smiles. “Come now, what’s Christmas without a bit of fun, huh? Nothing good in life is ever truly free, after all.” She smiles secretly. “And I have a few helpers hidden around here too. You may run into them if you look hard enough.” She makes a shooing motion with her head, waving you off with a bright grin.

“Go on, go on! Have fun!”

Rules and Prizes

Image

Prizes:

The grand prizes for the most posts are as follows:
Unknown

Rules:

READ ALL THE RULES BEFORE POSTING

1: There may be no more than five entrants at a time.

2: Each entrant has should make as many posts as possible in a FIVE (5) DAY period. That means from the time you post, claiming an open slot, to the very end of your five days, make as many posts as you can. You may or may not have one of my “helpers” reply to you; I may interact with you to stimulate role-play and help you along. YOU MUST ADD POST COUNT TO YOUR POSTS! If you don’t I will remind you only once, before your unnumbered posts don’t count (I seriously don’t want to go through this and count each post for each person)

3: Quality over quantity can sometimes help; five sentence posts will be worth a lot less than posts that have more effort put into them. Don’t just go for a BUNCH of posts~ Try doing some actual Rping and have fun!

4: The distance from number 1 does NOT influence your pet rarity.

5: Everyone will win something! As such, there will be no whining. If I see you complaining about your prize or whatnot after this event, then I will ask for your pet/prize to be revoked.

6: All participants begin in Area 1, the Bonfire.

7: One of my helpers may appear randomly to give you a little boost in your RP, or even offer you a chance at a BIG present. So be on the lookout for my posts; they may not be often, but they might appear once in a while.

8: PLEASE add your move count to the end of your posts so I know how far along you are/how many posts you‘ve made. Thanks!.

9: You do not have to wait for me to accept you to begin; just have at it!

10: There is no limit to how many characters you can bring in to RP; just keep up with them.

11: You can interact with other participants; this is encouraged, as it makes it more fun!

12: There will only be FIFTEEN SLOTS this year. You may only enter ONCE. More MAY be added, depending on how much people might be interested in them. You can address that issue in the link at the bottom; if you want more slots, and you can get four other people to request them, then I will add five more.

13: Prizes are distributed at the very end of the event, after all fifteen slots have been claimed and used. Do NOT ASK about when they will arrive. Do not WHINE about not receiving them after your slots are done. If I see you whining or complaining in ANY WAY, I will not distribute your prize, and will open another slot for someone else.

14: If you leave, or need time off, for whatever reason or other, just tell me, and we can work something out for you.

15: Have fun, and address any questions here. Thanks!

Areas and Event

Image
(You can find the larger version here.)

Areas

Number 1, The Bonfire: Here you’ll find a large, cheerfully glowing bonfire. An older man is keeping it going, throwing a chunk of wood on it every now and again. It roars merrily, and around it, sitting on large logs, are different townspeople. They share stories of Christmases past, and of presents they’ll receive. You notice a large stack of wood, and something moving behind it? What could that be? As you look even more closely, you see an empty log waiting for someone to sit on it off to the side near the woodpile. Hm, maybe sitting for a few minutes and enjoying the fire wouldn’t be a bad idea, huh?

Number 2, the Christmas Tree: The tree is large. Far larger than any you’ve ever seen. How’d they manage to drag this here? A few children are standing around the tree, ‘ooing’ and ‘ahhhing’ over the pretty lights and ornaments. Below the tree sit boxes and boxes of presents (but not that familiar one you’re searching for, of course; that would be too easy). This tree could easily house a small army, and as you stare at it, you see something moving in the branches. Wait a minute…what?

Number 3, The Bakery: Here is Ceinwen’s bakery. The lights glow merrily inside, and as you glance through the window, you see a small crowd of people lining up for sweets. Two women are behind the counter, handing out treats that range from cookies to massive cakes to bite-sized candies. The smell is lovely, and you decided that maybe taking a peek inside won’t hurt. There are rows and rows of different treats everywhere you look, and lots of interesting places to explore. And…whoa, wait a sec. Did something just disappear behind the counter?

Number 4, The Petting Zoo: here is the petting zoo. They have a variety of animals, including baby Yingshee, an Ursice cub, a Mocha Piccu, a baby Torken, some Sahound puppies, and most spectacularly of all, an actual, real live, reindeer! They’re all housed in a cozy looking portable barn, strewn with soft, warm hay and blankets for the little ones. You see some children cuddle up with the puppies, and decide that maybe you could buy one of those feed packets that the proprietor of the petting zoo was selling and feed some of the babies. And you might even find something interesting hidden among the hay in the barn. Who knows?

Number 5, Roasted Chestnut Stand: A small, humble looking stand with warm chestnuts and a few extra tables laying about for people to sit and enjoy their food. There even seems to be a can to hold a warming fire. You’re welcome to grab some of those lovely roasted chestnuts and warm your hands, or take a load off and enjoy the scenery. Maybe take a look around the stand and the people hanging about; you might find what you’re looking for here.

Number 6, Hot Chocolate Bar: This has to be the second best stop so far, bar the bakery. Free hot chocolate? Thank you very much! There is a long table with rows of cups for you to grab a drink, and a hot chocolate dispenser at the far end. Plates of cookies and goodies line the table as well, covered from the elements by a large tent. You might want to grab a cup before it’s all gone, and take a seat before everyone decides to take them first. But wait…did something just run around the back of the tent? What’s with all those shadows? How odd…

Number 7, The Fountain: The fountain should be frozen over this time of year, but not this time. It’s been chopped open and a water heater installed to keep the few geese paddling about in it warm. They seem content as they honk at you, as if asking for food. A woman stands beside the fountain, handing out a slice of bread to anyone who wants one for the geese. The two benches on the outside of the fountain look somewhat uncomfortable, but maybe if you take a closer look, you’ll discover something of interest here. Who knows?

Number 8, The Candy Stand: This is a popular place for parents to bring their children. They are famous for their wonderful peanut brittle and sweet varieties of candies of all kinds. Just watch out here, because children can tend to get a little sticky, and more than one parent has had to pry a gooey gumdrop from their child's hair. Everyone gets free candy, which can cause a bit of a hectic mess at times, but mostly, the patrons are very respectful and kind. Maybe you'll find an even sweeter treat than candy here, hm?

It seemed that word spread fast. That, or perhaps it was that the Myu Reaper just so happened to be in the right place at the right time. Most likely, it was the latter but, either way, Xero managed to catch wind of the event and, here she was, to claim a slot in order to participate. Certainly, her master of sorts would find the event interesting, so there was no time to waste!

The little feline had to hop through the snow, her dark fur making her a stark contrast to her surroundings, as she came to the Sygriff that apparently was the host of the event. It was quite an effort for her to move around. Larger creatures weren't really bothered, as the snow wasn't that deep, but she was small enough that she had to make a good effort to move around. On top of that, she was trying to think warm thoughts, her coat not designed for such cold weather. Autumn chill? She would be just fine. Trekking through snow? She wasn't so lucky.

"E-excuse me," she spoke, looking up at the larger creature, trying not to let her shivering impair her speech too much. "I-I would like to claim a slot. My friends should be joining me soon - I just have to get in touch with them first."

For the sake of time and not freezing her tail off, for Xero only had one tail rather than usual Myu Reapers, she didn't really await a confirmation. She was under the impression that, what with a strange sign listing all slots in the event open, that she would be safe. "O-oh, please excuse me. I sh-should call them out soon." With those words, she began to bound through the snow once more, having decided that it be best to settle near the warmth of the bonfire before attempting to make contact with any of her companions.

Hopping up onto an available log, the small feline made herself comfortable, taking a few moments to bask in the heat from the fire, shaking the chill off. In truth, she wasn't too sure how she would get a hold of her keeper, at least while she was by herself. While she hadn't come out to run errands on her own, she and her partner had split up for the time being. Mixie had the ability to move about as she needed to, which meant she could easily find Xero, but she couldn't do much until the house demon presented herself.

A few minutes passed, the Myu Reaper simply enjoying herself. Eventually, a young man approached, sitting on the far end of the same log she had settled onto. She only glanced over at him at first, but, when another few minutes passed, she addressed him. "Excuse me, Sir? Do you have the time?" By now, it was sort of strange that Mixie hadn't returned to her. She had told her that she only required a few minutes for her errand out here.

It took the man a moment to realize that someone was speaking to him, specifically, his mind obviously filled with other thoughts. "Oh," he said, turning to gaze at her. He made a bit of a face when he realized that it wasn't another humanoid addressing him, mainly because he didn't expect to see many sentient creatures in the town square. Politely, however, he took a look at his watch and rattled off the time for her, for which she thanked him.

Just as Xero was finally getting irritated, two cold hands, or more or less hands, covered her eyes. The action was accompanied with a much too cheerful, "Guess who!"

"Mixie, quit messing around!" Xero's words came with a half growl, which caused the odd, if not down right creepy, Socross to pout.

"Xero, you're not any fun," Mixie replied, but knowing better than to push it, she uncovered her partner's eyes. She didn't waste any time, either, snatching up the black, lacy parasol that she had temporarily discarded onto the ground in order to surprise the other. She opened it back up, holding it above her head, as she always did unless she was inside of a house or other building.

The feline turned to face the larger creature, annoyance still evident in her expression. "What took you so long?"

"I... got distracted," Mixie admitted, without a second thought. "This is only my second Christmas holiday, but I really like it." The Socross seemed much more suited to holidays such as Halloween, given her appearance, but after being sent out to deliver gifts the year before, she had come to enjoy the holiday season. "I stopped in a shop and picked up this!" With her excited words, she gestured toward the very plush looking black and white stripped scarf that was currently wrapped around her neck. "Isn't it great? It isn't exactly Christmas-y, but this was the one that looked best on me."

Shaking her head, Xero gave a sigh after Mixie had presented her scarf with so much enthusiasm in her voice. She couldn't really get mad at her, but it was funny that a demon got so excited over something so simple and silly. "Yes, yes, it looks nice," she finally replied, when the house demon only stared back with those empty eye sockets of hers. Those words alone had the demon beaming.

"Anyway, just what did you want to come out this way for?" Mixie finally inquired.

"I happened to hear that someone was throwing a holiday event out here," she explained. "I wanted to make sure to sign up, since I'm sure this is something that everyone would enjoy. Supposedly, there are Christmas presents hidden in the area and the participants are supposed to be looking for them." As she spoke, her tail flicked idly. "You should return to get everyone."

"A Christmas present finding event?" Mixie summed up Xero's explanation in a single sentence. "That sounds fun."

"Yes. I'll wait here, so don't take too long, all right?"

Nodding her head, the house demon agreed. With only a gesture of her free claw, a small, diamond shaped portal appeared before her. It resembled something that one might imagine a black hole to be, having a spiral shape, but black and sparkly, as if was the night sky. It grew in size, just large enough for Mixie to jump into. As she did, she vanished, the portal disappearing with her.

Somewhere between fifteen and twenty minutes later, Xero having lost count of the exact time, the strange portal that Mixie had vanished into reappeared, seemingly out of thin air. This was shortly followed by the house demon reappearing, as well, landing with a soft sounding thud. Her parasol was still wide open, despite the sun not being active at night. Such a thing was habit, the carrying of the parasol, as her kind was particularly weak to sunlight. It wasn't sunny now, which she was thankful for, but she ended up bringing along her every day accessory anyway.

Image

Behind her, a young woman appeared, bundled up in a black, fashionable button-up coat. The hood was worn up, her long blondish hair pulled forward outside of the hood to frame her face on either side. Additionally, she wore black gloves, tight jeans and black, heeled boots that matched the coat in style. Few would have expected such a woman to be a bounty hunter by profession, but Toxic wasn't here this night to catch a criminal. Oh no, she had other, much more fun and, hopefully, exciting plans.

Image

Nearly bowling right into the woman's legs, a Khimera cub came bounding from the portal, and had to skid to a stop. Once he gained his barrings, he jumped around to face and look up at the woman. "Auntie Toxie, what did you say we are here for?" He questioned, tilting his head, although the words were muffled by a small, blue lamb plush that he held in his mouth. The small toy, aptly named "Lamby," went with Rayishi wherever he went, the cub having been attached to it from a very young age.

"Why don't you ask Xero that?" Toxic suggested, smiling down at Rayishi, the young cub that she had somewhat adopted. Some time ago now, she had found the cub in the streets, bleeding and injured in his effort to fight off a group of animalistic Werecain that had attacked him and stolen his precious Lamby. Without a second thought, she took him in and had him nursed back to health. Upon discovering that he was a Khimera that had escaped the Industry being fully developed and, thus, having nowhere to go, she essentially became his guardian.

Outside of the square, there is a storm raging, and it has brought more and more people to the warmth of the fires and the homes. But it seems as if some sort of magic is protecting the small, cheerful gathering, and the snow seems to bounce off some sort of invisible wall, steering clear of the revelers.

She stood on the edge of town, in the small space between the icy inferno and the protective field. Particles of snow swirled around and behind her before ricocheting off the barrier. It would have been enough to cause the wits of even the most hardened, experienced storm chaser to falter. But her eyes were closed, and her countenance serene. For here was still where she felt most at home. It's okay, she told herself. Feel, don't think. A wry smile crept up her face.

When at last she opened her eyes, they had trailed upward, her face raised in defiance at the wall keeping her element at bay. But whether or not it would affect her powers once inside was the least of her concern - she was still 50/50 on whether or not she would be able to get inside at all. On the one hand, it might not have any affect at all, as it was probably designed to nullify weather, not people. On the other, it could blast her into a million tiny ice shards and scatter pieces of her across the kingdoms.

Teeth gritted, fists clenched, and brows furrowed, it was now or never. If I ever see Anna again, she vowed, I'm gonna kill her. Again. And then I'm gonna hug her. She skipped a few paces backwards, paused, and began her approach. Her lids were shut through the entire ordeal, so that at the moment she reached the wall - and passed beyond it - she couldn't see where she was going. And she was picking up speed. Moments later, she realized the snow underfoot had given way to solid ground. Then she felt something heavy slam into her shins. Before she had the time to realize what had happened, Queen Elsa of Arendelle had fallen face-first over a log and into the dirt beside a roaring bonfire.

This has got to be the worst grand tour in the history of monarchy. How did I let her talk me into this?

Elsa winced as she sat up against the log, lower legs still stinging from the impact. Her braid had come undone, and platinum-colored hair sprung out in all directions. She blew away a lock of it in exasperation. This must be what Anna experiences on a daily basis. She stood, a bit wobbly at first, and gradually felt her poise return to her. She set off further into town at once. All won't have been for naught if they've got ice cream. Or perhaps some lefse...

Some time later, after a few more helpings of her favorite desserts than she'd care to admit, she came to the town square, and spotted with relative ease the person recommended to her by an eager pubgoer. "Hail, good lady," she began before curtsying. "You must be Aura. I'm Elsa. I've come to Nabias for your renowned winter festival."

The King beneath the mountains,
The King of carven stone,
The lord of silver fountains
Shall come into his own!

His crown shall be upholden,
His harp shall be restrung,
His halls shall echo golden
To songs of yore re-sung.

The streams shall run in gladness,
The lakes shall shine and burn,
All sorrow fail and sadness
At the Mountain-king's return!

Oceanus was out shopping for the holidays with his mate, Pacifica, who was watching the people in the town square. This year the Teulu was going to celebrate the holidays at the bar, Mystic with some other Teulu shifters, which was extremely rare for Teulus to come together. He didn't mind it much, Pacifica was happy to have a large group come together in the first place, since she was more of the family type. Oceanus grabbed his mate hand as the walked along the crowded square, Christmas music was playing on loud speakers and he could here some people singing along to the song. He, himself couldn't figure why people celebrate this holiday nor did he understand why it became large holiday. Oceanus thought his was type of thing the corporations expected shoppers to spend all their money, just to make the head corporate people rich. He didn't say it out loud since his mate would be upset with him.

He continued to walk the crowded streets with his beloved mated. They were in front of the bakery that was handing out free gingerbread cookies. Before Oceanus could enter the building, Pacifica stopped him his tracks. "Oceanus look over there." She pointed to the opposite side of the square where a small group of people gathered around a Sygriff. It got Pacifica's interest, she wanted to know what was going on. She grabbed her mates hand before he entered the bakery and dragged himself to where the Sygriff was. "I want to see what they are doing." She turned her slightly towards her mate and gave him a slight smile. "It might be fun to join them. Don't you think Oceanus?" She used her sexy voice on him, so he couldn't say no. Oceanus blow a exasperated breath at her question. "Fine, lets go and find out what they are doing." Pacifica dragged her mated to the other side of the square. As they got to the group, both the Beruang listened to the Sygriff as she spoke. When the Sygriff finish speaking, Pacifica spoke up. "We would like to claim one of your spots, please." She gave the sygriff a large smile.

A rather small Fellox walked around the area protected from the snow, seemingly looking for something. It had been quite a long time since Laksimi had been here, but she remembered very well all that had happened. She had made so many great friends here!

Looking around, she tried to spot the fountain, but she was seemingly still quite a bit away and with so many people gathering - and most of them walking on two legs, therefore being much taller than her - it was hard to really make out where she was going. So when she suddenly found herself face to face with a snow-covered Sygriff, she stopped. Because her father had told her to always listen until the end when someone was talking, Laksimi remained quiet until Aura finished her introduction, then tilted her head, thinking about it for a few seconds and then stated: "I'm not sure what any of this means, but do you know where the geese are?"

She wriggled a bit so that Aura could see the bag she had around her neck. There were two plushies of ducks inside, but it was quite obvious that there had to be more stuff under them as well. "I am a duckie-expert, but I also love geese! And I'm friends with the ones living here and want to visit them!"

Then, however, she remembered something important. The last time she had been here, there had been some event as well and it had caused one of the geese to be upset because something had been in her nest! Laksimi looked straight at Aura. "I hope all the geese are still happy!" she stated as sternly as a little girl could. "I'll check on them all because they're all cute and I'm somewhat of a geese-expert as well! So even though I am not sure what you talked about I'll do it as well - for the cute geese!"

Well, that was that. Now, she had to find that fountain and make sure that all her fluffy friends were alright.

Christmas was, without a doubt, the absolute best time of the year.  It was a time when everyone gathered together; family, friends, strangers.  All brought closer by the nose-nipping cold, comforting fireplace warmth, and delicate scents of gingerbread and hot chocolate.
It was truly a magical time.

All bundled up in a sweater, hat, and scarf, Juniper hurried toward the lively town square.  Accompanying her was her younger sister, Beatrix, equally confined in multiple layers of clothing.  There was a distinct separation of "Christmas Spirit" between the two; Juniper, always enthusiastic, and Beatrix, the incessant pessimist.  Nevertheless, here they were, together, to spend some special Christmas bonding time.

Contradicting Juniper's high spirits, an icy snow storm was raging.  The two sisters pushed forward through the thick snow on the sidewalks and braved the winds sticking snowflakes to their fur.  A comforting light shown through the blizzard, luring them to what appeared to be a bonfire.
"See, Bee, that wasn't so bad!  We made it to the town square!"
Juniper's over enthusiastic attitude had little effect on her sister, who brooded silently - aside from her comically chattering teeth.

Approaching the Sygriff, Juniper excitedly voiced her desire to participate in the Holiday Festival.
"It'll be fun, for me and my sister together!  We don't get to have bonding time very much."

"There's a reason for that..." muttered Beatrix, pouting.

I think back to the time when my search first began,
I left behind those shores of sand
For the endless everlasting world out there.

I know that with this burning passion driving me
Someday, somewhere I'll finally see
The light I have searched for everywhere!

The fire, warm and inviting, crackled as it spit a few sparks into the air.  They swirled lazily before suddenly disappearing, soon to be replaced by others.  The folks around the fire seemed very content, using the cold as an excuse to huddle together by the fireside.  Beatrix smiled as she watched, drawn in by the promise of warmth and comfort.
"Yo, June... Let's go check out the fire, yeah?"
The honest question did not go unheard by Juniper, who eagerly agreed.  It was such a nice change for Beatrix to be the one making suggestions.  It seemed she was finally warming up to their situation - both literally and figuratively.

Side by side, they walked closer to the bonfire, faces lighting up as they watched the glow.  Beatrix tended to be taken by fire for more violent and unhealthy a reason than Juniper, but at the time she was simply glad for the opportunity to de-thaw her toes. They took a seat on an empty log and waited in comfortable silence as they watched the flames.

"Yo, June?"
"Yup?"
"Where's Drew at?"
"Not sure, but he did say he'd meet us here.  So I'm sure on his way!  Let's wait for him here before we start."
"A'ight."

Their exchange was short and to the point.  Quickly they fell back to silence as they waited for their brother to come along.  Surely he wouldn't be long...

Re: Millie's Winter Festival [4 slots open!]

Pacifica didn't wait for confirmation, she just took the piece of paper that was handed to her. She read the rules that were written on the top and then looked down at the bottom at the map of the layout, it had a list of places they had to go. They had to first go to the bonfire were the event started. She took her mates hand and quickly moved around the people. She followed the direction of the map to were the bonfire was located at. This was the first time that Pacifica did something fun outside of the Teulu and it was going to be with her mate. Before they even got close to the bonfire, Oceanus stopped his mate, making Pacifica turn to face him quickly. "Is this a race? Why are we in a hurry?" She tugged at her mate's arm but realize that he wasn't moving. She spoke up in a hyper voice. "No, this isn't a race but I would like to get to the bonfire as quickly as we can. I want to start this game as soon as we can. Is that so bad?" She batted her eyes at Oceanus, hoping that he would give in. "No, it is bad, but I think we should take our time. You don't know how long we need to be out here in the freezing cold. I'm just glad that we dressed warm enough not to freeze out here." She wrinkled her nose at her mate's comment and laughed a little. "You know that impossible for us to freeze. We're Beruang, which would make it hard for us to freeze." She tugged on Oceanus arm once again to walk. "No, it's not impossible. It has happen before but rarely. Anyways, lets take our time with this so we don't wear ourselves out." Oceanus gave his mate a large small, following before her.

It took them a half an hour to get to the bonfire but they made it. It made Pacifica happy that they ended up somewhere warm and cozy. She was surprise to see so many people sitting around the fire. She expected to be empty but realize she and her mate weren't the only ones out doing some holiday shopping. Maybe they were here for the event as well. Should she ask someone? Pacifica walked several feet before realizing that her mate stopped at the entrance. She turned around to face him and twisted her head slight to the right. Oceanus was sniffing the air. A large growl came from deep in his throat which made her perplex. She tinted her head up slightly in the air and sniffed. Pacifica couldn't smell anything at all, no enemy nor companions. She wondered what her mate was growling at. Maybe it wasn't anything at all and was just taking in the warm fresh air. She walked up to her mate and whisper to him. "Is everything alright?" She looked around the room making sure no one heard her. Oceanus looked down at his mate and spoke. "Yes, everything is fine. I'm just glad to be by the bonfire. I was freezing my tail off outside, even with this heavy coat on." He gave Pacifica a reassuring smile before taking her hand.

Paw after paw pressed through the thickened snow, unknowingly following a now covered trail made not too long ago.  The cold clawed at his fur and scratched down to his very bones.  Teeth chattering, snowflakes attacking, ice slipping, and temperature dropping.  All the homes and shops down the road were dark, their occupants moved along to the center of town where all the fun was.  The Holiday Festival, bright and cheery and energetic, drew the attention of the entire town.  Of course, only one could possibly come late to this party - and much to his siblings' chagrin, it was Andrew.

He hadn't intended to be so far behind the two girls, he'd merely opted to run a few "errands" before going on their little family outing.  In the back of his mind, he recalled the suspicious look his uncle had given him when he'd slipped away.  The thought was shaken from his head with the assurance that no, that certainly didn't mean anything.  There's no way he could know.  However, if Andrew missed out on Juniper's outing today, he knew he wouldn't hear the end of it.  They'd ask and ask where he was until they accepted the fact that no, he wouldn't talk, but then they'd start watching him.  Family members cared so much it was frustrating.

So he padded along, snow and sleet assaulting him from above, and aimed to reach the warm, inviting glow of the town square.
Surely the whole event is not outside, he thought to himself as he grew nearer.  This weather is ridiculous!
