When they reached the lab Lila felt much better. The ride had been hell but she had enough magic dampeners that the flute was more like the buzz of a fly in her head compared to the war zone it had been earlier. With a satisfied sigh Lila placed the bag carefully on the table. She had a special place for items that infiltrated the mind. It was a simple glass case with wooden runes placed into it. With careful hands Lila picked up the flute and sealed it into the box. The room reached an unnatural silence then. After hours of constant noise wracking her brain Lila wasn’t sure how she felt about this new quiet.

[Sarah]

“What now?” Roxis asked from across the room.

“We wait for Kry to return,” Lila replied as she walked over to join him.

“And then what?” Roxis asked his face serious.

“Then we find who made the flute, then we find the person who summoned the demon, then we figure out what the creature inside the flute is, then we work on a plan to neutralize the flute’s magic, then we figure out how to put together a town that was essentially melted.” There was too much to do and so little information it made Lila incredibly uneasy.

[Sarah]

“Well you won’t get answers from me,” A black portal opened in the middle of her lab and Kry stepped through. His body was relax but his face looked stressed. Behind him the portal didn’t close. Instead another man stepped through. It was Ziel.

A low rumble spread through the room like a thunderstorm was about to erupt. Roxis was crouched low, his eyes locked onto the faded man. He was ready to maul the sad and confused looking… ghost.

“This is Zeil, he is a very disgruntled and lost human ghost,” Kry stepped out of the way so Ziel stood alone in the room.

[Sarah]

“Hello Ziel, it is nice to meet you. My name is Lila,” she said with a soft smile. There was no reason to give any indication that he had been a bad person. Ghosts were tricky like that, one moment they are floating around not harming a fly and the next a memory of their past triggers and they are a vengeful or angry poltergeist. Beside her Roxis relaxed, but only slightly.

“It’s okay,” Ziel said with a sad smile. “I already know everything. Kry woke me and I was like this, and then he showed me the town and explained to me what I had done. I apologize deeply for that. You must know I wasn’t in my right mind,” the man informed them.

[Sarah]

“Of course, we all know that,” Lila reassured him. If he knew that meant he was already a poltergeist and Kry had been the one to calm him down. Lila almost laughed at the idea of her demon trying to calm down a destructive force. “And you weren’t able to pass on?” Lila asked. She walked over to a line of jewelry that hung on the wall. She picked out a simple charm, the chain was made of silver in order to bind the creature, the pendant was a pentagram specifying that supernatural creatures should be bound and then in tiny scrawling handwriting there was the proper words to bind a spirit to the living world.

The man shook his head no and Lila approached him. “I feel too much guilt for what I have done. I have to make up for it somehow,” Ziel stressed.

[Sarah]

“Not to worry, this’ll help you.” The silver necklace want over his head and hung lazily from his neck. Now he was hers to command and she would use him to help clean up the debt he owed. “We’ll make sure your guilt is gone,” Lila assured him. Kry scoffed but Lila could feel a wave of approval from Roxis. “Thank you Kry for your help, you are dismissed,” She said barely turning to look at the demon. He wasn’t happy with her binding the man, but Lila didn’t want a rouge poltergeist causing trouble when she could use him to find and convert others like him. Plus what if he knew more about the flute or the demon that had possessed him? That wasn’t something she would pass up.
