Millie's Christmas Festival [All Slots closed]

Postby MillietheWarrior » 12/02/2014 3:24 AM

Millie's Christmas Festival

It was that time of year again; the town square, which usually remained rather lifeless during the cold, harsh winter, was now decorated and alive with lights and tinsel and the smell of fresh food. There is smoke wafting from a cheery little bakery, and the scent of hot cocoa and roasting chestnuts hangs heavy in the air. Above the din of the crowd, you can hear the excited chattering of children, and off to your side, a bonfire crackles merrily near the edge of the square, warming all those weary folk who get a bit overwhelmed by the festivities. There are street vendors, and people doing tricks, or handing out little gifts.

A reindeer snorts but remains still as children clamber over his back and pet his velvety nose. The little torken, draculi, Tali and sahound that litter the petting zoo romp and play in the warm hay, the glow from the lamps that hang above their mangers echoing that of the starlight above. A huge Christmas tree has been placed at the head of the square, just beyond a burbling fountain filled with honking geese. It's massive branches reach higher than you can see, but at the tip-top, there is a brightly glowing star, it's light shining down on the festivities. Presents, of course, litter the ground at it's trunk, and excited children shake them with wide grins, hoping to discover what is inside.

And yet, despite all the merriment, there is one soul who stands off to the side. She is a tiny little thing, probably no more than the size of a small pony, but she watches the festivities with twinkling eyes and a fond smile. A little sleigh sits behind her, one that she is hooked up to. It is loaded with a sack that bulges with presents, but despite the weight of her burden, the little creature doesn’t seem concerned by it. She stands patiently in the snow, watching and listening with rapt attention. As you watch her, she seems to notice your stare, and turns her head with a wide, sweet-faced smile.

“Why, hello there!” she greets, and it startles you slightly because you hadn't expected her to speak. “Don't be shy! Come on over here.” You hesitantly approach, shuffling through the leftover snow on the bricks of the town square and stand beside her. “I see you've noticed our little celebration, eh? But how could you not! This is the most wonderful time of the year, after all. Isn't that right?” She nods sagely, and continues. “Of course it is. Now, you're very free to join in our celebration! I've got presents for everyone once it's all over. Just make sure you don' get too rowdy, okay? Christmas is a time of giving and merriment, but it's also a time for peace of earth and goodwill to your fellow man. So take care, and just go have fun. If you need anything, feel free to come talk to me. I don't mind at all~!”

Rules and Prizes

Image

Prizes:

The grand prizes for the most posts are as follows:
400 KS
200 KS
100 KS
2 edit-less customs (Mod of your choice)
5 Special Event pets from a previous year (Your choice, choose from previous holidays and years)
1 Lucain
1 Paragon
3 Random Pets

And regardless of post count, everyone gets a special event pet made specifically for this event!

Rules:

READ ALL THE RULES BEFORE POSTING

1: There may be no more than five entrants at a time.

2: Each entrant has should make as many posts as possible in a FIVE (5) DAY period. That means from the time you post, claiming an open slot, to the very end of your five days, make as many posts as you can. You may or may not have one of my “helpers” reply to you; I may interact with you to stimulate role-play and help you along. YOU MUST ADD POST COUNT TO YOUR POSTS! If you don’t I will remind you only once, before your unnumbered posts don’t count (I seriously don’t want to go through this and count each post for each person)

3: Quality over quantity can sometimes help; five sentence posts will be worth a lot less than posts that have more effort put into them. Don’t just go for a BUNCH of posts~ Try doing some actual Rping and have fun!

4: The distance from number 1 does NOT influence your pet rarity.

5: Everyone will win something! As such, there will be no whining. If I see you complaining about your prize or whatnot after this event, then I will ask for your pet/prize to be revoked.

6: All participants begin in Area 1, the Bonfire.

7: One of my helpers may appear randomly to give you a little boost in your RP, or even offer you a chance at a BIG present. So be on the lookout for my posts; they may not be often, but they might appear once in a while.

8: PLEASE add your move count to the end of your posts so I know how far along you are/how many posts you‘ve made. Thanks!.

9: You do not have to wait for me to accept you to begin; just have at it!

10: There is no limit to how many characters you can bring in to RP; just keep up with them.

11: You can interact with other participants; this is encouraged, as it makes it more fun!

12: There will only be FIFTEEN SLOTS this year. You may only enter ONCE. More MAY be added, depending on how much people might be interested in them. You can address that issue in the link at the bottom; if you want more slots, and you can get four other people to request them, then I will add five more.

13: Prizes are distributed at the very end of the event, after all fifteen slots have been claimed and used. Do NOT ASK about when they will arrive. Do not WHINE about not receiving them after your slots are done. If I see you whining or complaining in ANY WAY, I will not distribute your prize, and will open another slot for someone else.

14: If you leave, or need time off, for whatever reason or other, just tell me, and we can work something out for you.

15: Have fun, and address any questions here. Thanks!

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! Areas and Event

Image

Areas

Number 1, The Bonfire: Here you’ll find a large, cheerfully glowing bonfire. An older man is keeping it going, throwing a chunk of wood on it every now and again. It roars merrily, and around it, sitting on large logs, are different townspeople. They share stories of Christmases past, and of presents they’ll receive. You notice a large stack of wood, and something moving behind it? What could that be? As you look even more closely, you see an empty log waiting for someone to sit on it off to the side near the woodpile. Hm, maybe sitting for a few minutes and enjoying the fire wouldn’t be a bad idea, huh?

Number 2, the Christmas Tree: The tree is large. Far larger than any you’ve ever seen. How’d they manage to drag this here? A few children are standing around the tree, ‘ooing’ and ‘ahhhing’ over the pretty lights and ornaments. Below the tree sit boxes and boxes of presents (but not that familiar one you’re searching for, of course; that would be too easy). This tree could easily house a small army, and as you stare at it, you see something moving in the branches. Wait a minute…what?

Number 3, The Bakery: Here is Ceinwen’s bakery. The lights glow merrily inside, and as you glance through the window, you see a small crowd of people lining up for sweets. Two women are behind the counter, handing out treats that range from cookies to massive cakes to bite-sized candies. The smell is lovely, and you decided that maybe taking a peek inside won’t hurt. There are rows and rows of different treats everywhere you look, and lots of interesting places to explore. And…whoa, wait a sec. Did something just disappear behind the counter?

Number 4, The Petting Zoo: here is the petting zoo. They have a variety of animals, including baby Yingshee, an Ursice cub, a Mocha Piccu, a baby Torken, some Sahound puppies, and most spectacularly of all, an actual, real live, reindeer! They’re all housed in a cozy looking portable barn, strewn with soft, warm hay and blankets for the little ones. You see some children cuddle up with the puppies, and decide that maybe you could buy one of those feed packets that the proprietor of the petting zoo was selling and feed some of the babies. And you might even find something interesting hidden among the hay in the barn. Who knows?

Number 5, Roasted Chestnut Stand: A small, humble looking stand with warm chestnuts and a few extra tables laying about for people to sit and enjoy their food. There even seems to be a can to hold a warming fire. You’re welcome to grab some of those lovely roasted chestnuts and warm your hands, or take a load off and enjoy the scenery. Maybe take a look around the stand and the people hanging about; you might find what you’re looking for here.

Number 6, Hot Chocolate Bar: This has to be the second best stop so far, bar the bakery. Free hot chocolate? Thank you very much! There is a long table with rows of cups for you to grab a drink, and a hot chocolate dispenser at the far end. Plates of cookies and goodies line the table as well, covered from the elements by a large tent. You might want to grab a cup before it’s all gone, and take a seat before everyone decides to take them first. But wait…did something just run around the back of the tent? What’s with all those shadows? How odd…

Number 7, The Fountain: The fountain should be frozen over this time of year, but not this time. It’s been chopped open and a water heater installed to keep the few geese paddling about in it warm. They seem content as they honk at you, as if asking for food. A woman stands beside the fountain, handing out a slice of bread to anyone who wants one for the geese. The two benches on the outside of the fountain look somewhat uncomfortable, but maybe if you take a closer look, you’ll discover something of interest here. Who knows?

Number 8, The Candy Stand: This is a popular place for parents to bring their children. They are famous for their wonderful peanut brittle and sweet varieties of candies of all kinds. Just watch out here, because children can tend to get a little sticky, and more than one parent has had to pry a gooey gumdrop from their child's hair. Everyone gets free candy, which can cause a bit of a hectic mess at times, but mostly, the patrons are very respectful and kind. Maybe you'll find an even sweeter treat than candy here, hm?

Lila hurried towards the bonfire. Her sweatshirt did little to protect her from the cold and she could not help but feel like she had over estimated her ability to resist the winter. Once she was there she plopped onto a log and stuck her hands as close as possible to the flames as she could without getting burned. She sighed and was finally content with her decision to leave her lab today. She had had a lot on her mind recently so she had decided to try to get away from things for a while. The gods knew it couldn't last though, she always had been a workaholic. She chuckled to herself and wondered who she might see. There were plenty of other activities around too. Maybe if she got warm enough she'd go check them out.

Horatio had left the house before either of his two closest employees, or Rupa. Although he'd be reluctant in admitting it to much of anyone, Horatio held within him a deep-rooted love for the Christmas holiday. The two clowns promised they'd arrive not long after him, but in the meantime, Horatio was content to sit by his lonesome, observing his rare moment of peace and quiet. And so he found himself here, sitting on a log and warming his ungloved hands which adopted the temperature of ice over the course of his trek here. This year was his first time here, and he was counting on the event to be a stress reliever, rather than a source of stress, as many events turned into when Dolly and Elliot were involved.

A beautiful moon shines above again tonight,
And it sheds light happily over the world.
As for me, I'm just worthless, good for nothing,
Dreaming at daybreak, creeping at dawn.

Still I'll scream into the sky, hoping that somebody will find me.
I want to run, but there's no way out--
No bright future in sight.
But I still fly up like a butterfly, hoping that you'll find me.
A crescent moon, ugly children of the stars, flying with broken wings...!

[Cody will be RPed in "older" canon storyline here!]

Despite the fact that Cody had very well done his absolute best to stay away from the majority of society as of late, there was always something about Christmas that drew him in. Maybe it was the light, the warmth, drawing Cody to the fringes of the crowd like a cautious moth to a flame. Maybe it was the happiness, shared like a buzzing infectious high that hummed through the whole shebang and made Cody's frail heart beat fast with secondhand excitement. He let out a soft breath, watching it spiral into the air against the distant firelight, and his legs tensed as he moved to take a step forward--

Hey now. What are you doing? Cody's body went rigid for a moment as he processed the Voice in the back of his mind, and he exhaled slow and deep through his nose, the excitement in his heart fading and dampening. In his flutter of confidence he'd almost forgotten his little friend. I don't think you should go over there. You might embarrass yourself. You really look like a crazy person, y'know? Might scare some kids... Cody frowned, opening his mouth to object, then closed it, one hand going to rub at the side of his head. He honestly hadn't even considered his appearance in a long time, but his hair had gotten long. And his old blue hoody was so worn out it was threadbare against the cold. Not that Cody could feel it.

"I'm gonna go over there," Cody breathed out, his voice thin as death from lack of use. "You're not real. So please leave me alone. I can talk to you later." Cody's voice sounded strange to his own ears, but the Voice left him with a rush of air in the back of his mind--or, wait. That was the wind. Taking this small burst of confidence Cody quickly walked towards the bonfire, where a few other people had gathered, and he let the icy coldness seep out of his fingertips as he concentrated on holding back his powers, raising his hands to the warmth of the fire.

Tyre, Astrid & Rosie

Clapping her gloved hands together, Rosie turned to her mother and father. It was uncommon to see the two of them together like this and she hoped to convince them to stay out longer. "Can we stay, please? Look, they have a petting zoo further on!" She pointed to the map and looked at her parents with pleading eyes. "Please, I won't ask for anything else for the rest of Christmastime, I promise! I just want this one thing."

Her father laughed slightly. "I highly doubt that you won't ask for anything else between now and Christmas." Tyre turned to Astrid and shrugged. "It's up to your mother. What do you think, Astrid? Think you can bear having a bit of fun without wreaking any havoc?"

The female demigod huffed. "Well I'm not going to be the bad guy and say no." Scanning the area she tried hard not to roll her eyes. "I can't imagine how anyone would be able to have fun in this sort of environment..." her sentence trailed off as she saw the sparkle in her daughter's eyes. A small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth and she nodded. "If you want to stay, Rosie, then of course we'll stay."

Ava rubbed her mittened hands together, trying to get rid of the cold that crept into her fingertips and toes. It wasn't like Ava wasn't prepared for the cold weather. She had her hat and mittens, her pastel pink puffy jacket, even her cute insulated winter boots. So why was she so cold? Sighing out steam into the frosty air, Ava looked at the bonfire, her dark eyes reflecting the orange glow.

Okay, time to not be antisocial. Ava didn't come here to stand awkwardly on the fringes, even though there was a very real possibility of that happening, she came here to make friends! And there was a lot of people here, so there was a high chance of that happening. Her heart thumping, Ava felt her chest seize up for a moment, and she took a deep breath. She couldn't tell if the strange excitement rushing through her was from nervousness, excitement, or the overwhelming Christmas spirit that filled up the place. Maybe a Christmas miracle would happen, and Ava would be able to meet somebody new. Stepping closer to the warmth of the fire, Ava looked around at the faces of the people around her, not even sure how to start.

[I'm not entirely sure how this works; is there a posting order, or do we just post as often as we can? For now I'm gonna assume the latter lolol if I'm out of line with this post I'll delete it~]

Cody's eyes flickered in surprise as a few more people walked up, and he murmured a soft 'excuse me' and moved away to make more room, despite there being a fair distance between him and the other people already. He wondered if it would get crowded. Oh, if it got crowded, he really didn't want to be there. Cody swallowed, his hands starting to shake a bit, and he took a steadying breath, inching closer to the fire to warm his hands. He stared at the flames for a moment, then squatted down in the grass, damp from where snow had melted around the fire.

He glanced around at the people surrounding the bonfire; this was something he could do, that he enjoyed: people watching. Cody's eyes flickered behind his glasses as he watched a family of three come closer, their excited daughter saying something about a petting zoo. Cody's head tilted at that. A petting zoo? A small flash of excitement rose up in Cody's chest at that. He really did love cute animals... but... at the same time... He glanced at his own hands, the fingertips slowly fading to pink as he let his powers slip to the back of his mind and enjoyed the warmth of the fire. Honestly he just didn't want to hurt anyone.

“It looks like you might need this,” A mans voice sounded from behind her.

“Niner?” She asked turning towards him. She knew she looked shocked to see him but she didn’t care. She was rarely able to see him at all anyways so it was a nice surprise. Carefully she took the jacket he held out and eyes him suspiciously. bad things were afoot if he was here. Still she was thankful for the warmth so she scrambled into the jacket which was far too big for her.

“Yeah, its christmas we all get to share in the festivities,” he said with a soft smile as he sat next to her. his tails waved alert behind him but his body relaxed next to the fire. “The benefactor may be a mysterious jerk, but he understands the importance of the holidays… I guess,” He said shrugging.

But who was he kidding. Cody really wanted to see some cute animals, and gosh darnit, he was going to go see some cute animals. Besides, the fire was a little too warm for comfort. It reminded him of something...

Cody stood up, dusting his pants off and putting his hands in his hoody pocket, sniffing once to clear the thoughts from his head, making his way towards the petting zoo. He blinked as he walked towards a fountain on his way, and he paused to look at the water, his eyes softening as he smiled at the geese. They didn't look very displeased by the crowd, and he noticed some people were throwing breadcrumbs. Well... he'd read somewhere that bread wasn't good for geese... Cody's stomach suddenly rumbled unbidden, and he swallowed, a feral look flickering in his eyes. God, he was hungry.

Cody glanced at the geese, then at the woman who was handing out bread, and he slowly went over to her, putting on his most friendly smile, which honestly just looked scared. "H-hello," he mumbled, his voice barely a whisper, and he cleared his throat. "Um, hello, miss. May I have some bread?" he asked, hoping she'd figure it was for the geese.

Ava sat on the log for a little while, staring at the fire. Then she stared at the people around her, curious as to what they were doing there. Were they enjoying their time? Were they with their families? The people enjoying the bonfire were mostly older folks; Ava giggled as she watched a little girl drag her parents over to a large Christmas tree. Ava stared at the twinkling lights and decorations that weighed the tree down. It was so beautiful... Ava sighed, feeling a little twinge of sadness just from how beautiful it all was. Even though she was cold, and she didn't have anyone to enjoy this with her. But it still was just so... it felt so magical, feeling the waves of heat coming from the bonfire, and the calming bustle of people around her.

As Ava's thoughts began to wander into daydreams, Ava looked around the area once again, a small smile on her face. Wait. What was that? Doing a double take, Ava blinked at the big stack of logs for the fire. Was she seeing things? She had thought... no, it was probably her mind playing tricks on her. But, then again... Ava had definitely seen something.

With a huff of air, Ava jumped to her feet, determined to find out what this strange thing was. Moving to the pile, Ava peeked around the corner, making sure to give herself space, just in case the thing was violent. You could never be too careful with these things.

To you I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world.

Re: Millie's Christmas Festival [2 Slots Open!!]

Rosie twirled around happily, appearing far younger than she actually was. A sheltered lifestyle had left her with a childish naivete that some found endearing and others found annoying. Luckily, she didn't care much about what others thought of her. Her small family was together for the holidays despite the usual animosity between Tyre and Astrid. However long it lasted, she was going to enjoy it!

Taking both parent's hands, she began pulling them away from the fire. "C'mon, let's go find the animals! I wonder if they have any babies? Ooh, I love baby animals!" Obviously, her attention was firmly settled on the petting zoo.

However, her father held back. "Wait a moment, let's sit here by the fire. I think your mother is cold." He turned and gestured towards Astrid, who was currently huddled close to the fire and rubbing her hands together. His thoughtfulness only earned him a glare however. "I don't get cold," she muttered, despite the obvious falsehood of that statement. Immortal she may be, but she could still feel the changes in temperature. "I just want to sit by the fire for a little while, that's all."

Disappointment flashed briefly across the girl's face, but vanished just as quickly. "Oh, alright then! The fire does look cozy. As long as we get to stop at the petting zoo before we leave, okay?"

Lila smiled at him for a moment. “At least we can agree he is a demented soul. I wonder what his deal is with holidays,” She mused to herself. They both knew that the benefactor was not the person they should be thinking about right now. Niner offered her another shrug and they were back to listening to the crackling fire. It was becoming more apparent that Lila should get out of her lab more often. Considering she couldn’t hold a conversation at the moment she elected to have them sit in silence for a while longer. She loved the warmth and the glow of the fire and it had been too long since she had been around this many people.

The family of three settled onto a long log near the fire. Rosie sat in the middle, hold her mother's hand in both of hers while leaning her head on her father's shoulder. They looked so comfortable and together, that one probably never would have believed just how unusual this was for them. If it weren't for their daughter's sake, Tyre and Astrid would never consent to being around each other more than they needed to be. There was two much painful history between the two of them.

The moment didn't last long. Only a few minutes had passed before Rosie began squirming. She pulled her mittens off, and her hat. Then she began to tug at her jacket, making exaggerated panting noises as if she were going to burst into flames at any moment.

Rolling her eyes, Astrid stood and held out a hand to the girl. "Okay, I get it. You want to see those animals, right? Let's go and find them, then." As Rosie allowed her mother to help her up, Astrid turned her attention to Tyre. "Are you ready to go?" For once, the question was asked without any sort of animosity. The woman was in a surprisingly good mood.
