After a moment of watching the new comers, Luka let out a breath. They didn't seem like they meant any harm, but Luka was still not as use to interacting with others they way his siblings were. He seriously thought about tucking the small box under his arm, and giving it to her when they stopped at the bakery, but then a look at her face and Luka couldn't be that way. "Its fine." He did his best not to seem too put off by the three facing them, pushing his white blonde hair out of his face. "I have one for you too, Sakari." As he handed it to his already beaming little sister, Luka had to wonder what Annika had put in his box. "Are you folks enjoying your evening here as well?" He watched from the corner of his eye as Sakari carefully opened the larger box, again taking off the bow and adding it to the other on the front of her shirt sleeve.

He'd no more than turned his attention back to the Mooncheeka and Batti, than a child like squeal came from Sakari. Turning with a bit of a perplexed expression, he saw Sakari holding up a stuffed Frost Ursice. Her delight was written all over her face, as she hugged it to her chest. He was surprised that Annika had bought a stuffed toy, and then wrapped it as a gift from him.

Bottles smashed, I raised my hand
How can you all even stand?
And why is there joy in this poison? Oh
Faking smiles and confidence
Driving miles to capture this excitement
I can't take anymore

You're never gonna get it
I'm a hazard to myself
I'll break it to you easy
This is hell, this is hell
You're looking and whispering
You think I'm someone else
This is hell, yes

Sakari beamed at them while Annika worked to put the special earring she'd bought into the little girl's ear, "Luka promised we could go see the reindeer." She could barely stand still while Annika finished getting the small silver chain put into the two pierced holes in her ear. A single glance towards their brother, found Luka nodding to Annika. Yes, he had promised to take her over to the petting zoo. Maybe it wasn't the best idea he'd had, especially if he intended to find anything. "He said we have to stop at the bakery first, because we have to eat." This earned him an amused look from Annika, who simply shook her head at Luka. "Its nice to meet you, I hope you get a present too!" She giggled barely staying still until Annika was finished.

After she'd finished, Annika smiled down to Sakari. "Well, I think that's a wonderful idea." She chuckled slightly, taking Sakari's free hand. "Maybe we'll pick up a little snack for them once we get there." Sakari nodded, her small frame pulling ahead of Annika. Turning back towards the trio, Annika waved with her free hand. "Pleasure to meet you three, hope you have fun!" She was pulled down the cleared off path towards the bakery, leaving Luka to mutter his own form of goodbye before hurrying after them. "Slow down, Sakari. We'll get there in plenty of time."

There was a certain double-edged problem with Avery. She was passionate about her duty as a ranger and protecting the species of Evelon, and that made her an amazing Sygriff at her job. On the other hand, whenever she wasn't on the job, she could come off as anti-social or grumpy, because she had a hard time taking her mind off her job.

The latter was happening here, and if anything, Avery really was aware of how others perceived her in this kind of situation. She looked away this way and that, and if she could, she would've bit her lip. Usually Isabeau handled the social part of things, but other Talis made him nervous. "Oh no no no," Avery insisted to Morgiana when she said that they seemed uncomfortable around her. "It's not you, not at all," she assured her. "We... Um, I... just have a lot... on my mind," she said, though she wasn't sure if that would help. "Y-you seem very nice, please don't misunderstand." She offered a smile again, but like before, it was a little sheepish and awkward, but... she was trying.

She glanced at Isabeau, who was still quiet. Only in situations like this did Avery realize how much of the talking he really did do for her. "Isabeau," she said, and while she'd hoped saying his name would've inspired him to say something, that didn't quite happen, "h-he's really excited to be here." Even though she wasn't, she knew that he was excited to see all the festive things this place had to offer. "Please don't take it personally," she added. "It's not you, it's just that..." She paused, wondering how much she should say. Did this stranger really want to hear all this? "He just had a very bad experience with Talis," she decided to say, keeping it short and simple. "He's very sweet," she assured Morgiana, and she definitely sounded genuine here.

At the mention that she was a Tali, and throughout Avery's explanation to that, Isabeau seemed to withdraw into himself even more. He was looking away, ears flattened, as if he wanted to just hide completely. He did feel bad, though, that he was giving Morgiana the impression that she was intimidating. He glanced at her for a moment, and while he did look away again, he straightened up just a little. "You..." he whispered, but then he paused. "You... don't mind me?" he said, still quietly but hopefully loudly enough for Morgiana to hear. "Um... What I look like." Sure, he was a Tali, but that wasn't the problem; his appearance was.

"Mm, yeah," she said, "you know that thing you said about personal questions?"

"Right," he said, "sorry." He had a petulant urge to argue; she knew plenty about him, now, and she seemed very fond of dodging questions, like she was trying to maintain some sort of mystery. But he supposed this particular thing might well be a sore point, so he wouldn't press her. It wasn't so much that he desperately wanted to know, anyway, as that she'd ducked so many other things he was beginning to tire of it. It was hard enough to connect with people when they weren't trying to stop you.

"What would you be doing now, if you weren't here?" Amp said.

"Reading, probably," he said, "or arguing with my roommate. Probably about whether holidays should matter to me anymore, or—worse." This was not the time or the place to describe the nature of Piotr's unsavory habits, and she could probably guess pretty easily.

"Eugh," she said.

"Yeah." Every so often Piotr would try to share his prey, too, and the worst part of that was that sometimes Dean wanted to. Say what you would about Piotr, he never seemed to be hungry for long.

"The reading doesn't sound too bad, at least." She paused, and for a second Dean wondered if she'd just asked so he would ask her the same in return, but then she plowed straight on without needing an invitation: "Personally, I wouldn't have stayed in. There's a little bar in Lamenolai near my house where a lot of us magic people hang out. Nice place, too. I would have gone there to be morose with everyone else who's not very into the holidays." She sounded amused by the prospect.

"And yet here you are."

"Yeah, well. After you do the same thing a few years in a row you start to get bored of it. And there was a thing with this guy—not the way you're thinking, don't look at me like that. He's just a spirit with some issues. Sweet, but can't hold his liquor, and he tends to lose his grip on his power a little. I didn't want to be in the line of fire."

"Still, there are plenty of places you could have gone other than here."

"It seemed like time to make some better memories," she said, and sighed. After a moment she stepped back from the reindeer's stall and looked at him. "It's getting late. We should probably move on."

Neither of them actually had any interest in the roasted chestnuts—Dean's muffin had been fairly large and Amp could no more eat nuts than any other non-sonic food—so they went right past the stand and sat at the table nearest to the fire. It was sort of funny, Dean thought, to end up doing the same thing he'd started out doing, though at least he had company this time. If somewhat odd company. He was pretty odd himself, after all.

Amp let out a long sigh, looking across the square toward the fountain.

"Something the matter?"

"Not really." She turned back toward him and tilted her head. "You look less sad, at least. That's something."

"Amp..."

"You're a remarkably worried man, you know that?' She huffed out a short laugh. "I was just thinking, I ought to be getting to work soon. This area doesn't offer much of a vantage point for me to control the coming storm. I'll need to head out somewhere else, higher ground maybe. It doesn't have to be right away, but maybe in about ten minutes or so."

"I'm sorry to hear it," Dean said. And he was. Amp was secretive and there was something...difficult about her, and he didn't feel like he'd really gotten to know her as such, but it had been nice to have someone to talk to who knew what he was and didn't want to use it to control him—and didn't even seem to think it was particularly unusual.

"Yeah?" Her ears perked up. She rummaged in the pocket of her coat and pulled out a receipt and a pen, scribbled something, and then shoved it across the table toward him. It was an address in Lamenolai. "I don't know where you live—"

"Medicai."

"Really. In that case I won't expect you too soon. What in the world are you doing here? Well, never mind. That's the bar I was telling you about. Come by sometime. Most of the people there won't think twice about someone like you showing up. You probably have some adjusting to do, so you might as well do it among friends. Or friend." She stood up and extended a paw, which he shook. "Nice meeting you, Dean. See you around."

"Yeah," he said, looking over the address again. He didn't leave right away, despite the departure of his conversational partner. He was not particularly eager to get home.

Shrewdberry:
Morgiana seemed confused for a moment as she looked between the Sygriff and the Tali. "What you..." she muttered, brow furrowing over her eyes. "Why would I mind that? i think you look quite nice. You're very unique." She gave her covered wings a little flutter. "I myself am of a species that...well, there aren't many of us out there, to be honest. And I have many friends who are just as unique as the two of us; one of a kind, even." Her smile widened, and she tilted her head. "That's what you are. You're one of a kind! and that makes you special. Being special is a wonderful thing, you know." She didn't think it was fair to ask either of these two to help her out; it would've been a small; task, but now she felt bad for monopolizing their time. "Hey, listen. Why don't you take-" She dug around in her scarf, pulling out a nicely wrapped candy cane, and handing it over. "-this. As a Christmas gift from me. And enjoy the festivities to your heart's content!"

Ombre smiled warmly. "If gingerbread is what you want, I have just the cookies for you!" he leaned down and opened the case, holding out a plate of beautifully decorated cookies. The little gingerbread men seemed to be smiling up at their customers, eager to go home with them. "And again, I apologize for my sister's behavior." Pumpkin was already stalking off, looking even more annoyed than before, if the scowl on her face was any indication. "She's mad that she has to work on the holiday. But I love the crowds and our customers! thank you for patronizing our shop; every little bit helps!" He held out the plate of cookies, urging them to take one, and unaware that one of them had a very large chunk bitten out of it...

I love adventurous tales like that. That uplifting feeling that comes from seeing unknown lands and the knowledge that you came across—nothing can replace it! It opens a path from which self-confidence, experience, and important friendships—from the sharing of life or death situations—are born! But hearing it just isn’t the same. I want to create my own magnificent story!

A great adventure!

Callisto was nothing short of elated to be getting gingerbread for free - and in his typical fashion, not paying a decent amount of attention to what he was doing, he took up the little guy who was missing a leg. Victor opened his mouth to mention it, but thought better of it. It would look a bit rude to make a fuss about an incomplete gingerbread man when they were getting it for free, wouldn't it? Quickly, so they didn't have to take up much more time and space in the shop, he retrieved a bag of sugar cookies to pay for.

"Thank you," Trixie offered a shy smile to Ombre once the transaction was completed, and waved as their entourage left the bakery, ever so grateful that he had come to their rescue against his sister.

Where to next? The evening was creeping up on them quickly, and things were getting darker and colder. The three stuck close together to keep warm, watching where the flow of people seemed to be headed. Some were going back up towards the tree and the bonfire, which was understandable since it was growing late. They hadn't explored as much as they wanted to, though, so they followed in the opposite direction.

"Does he taste good?" Victor asked, nodding towards the gingerbread Callisto was tucking into his satchel, and the boy shrugged.

"I don't know! I kinda don't want to eat him, he's too cute."

Trixie couldn't help but roll her eyes fondly. All of that nonsense, and he wasn't even going to eat the thing? Typical. She hadn't been privy to Callisto's whims for very long, but still felt a familiar kinship with him, one that was only strengthened by witnessing his silliness. Victor, having had slightly more experience with him, was unaffected. It was a normal thing, for Cal to behave in unpredictable ways.

"What's this?" A set-up nearby caught Cal's attention, and he craned his neck in an attempt to get a better look at it. It looked like a little barn, all cosy and strewn with hay, and some folks were bustling around it. Something interesting must've been inside, to attract that much attention. "Can we check it out?"

"Sure."

Admittedly, they looked rather out of place among the families that had gathered to allow their children to play with the animals. Victor's almost comical height combined with Cal's interesting appearance and Trixie's visible anxiety was a sight to behold, to say the least. Despite that, they were not deterred; Trixie softened instantly when she saw the barn's inhabitants.

"Babies.."

"You like baby animals, then?" Callisto said with a grin, and Trixie nodded, a dreamy smile on her face. It was rare for her to be able to interact with anything as cuddly and sweet as the creatures roaming around inside the barn, so this would be an absolute delight. As if on cue, a Sahound puppy turned its fuzzy head towards her, and started ambling through the straw to reach them, its tail wagging furiously behind it.

"Hello, you," Trixie spoke softly, trying not to frighten the little thing, and crouched down so she was at a more accessible height for it. "How are you this evening?"

The force of the puppy's excitement vibrated through its entire body, and it eagerly jumped to place its front paws on her knees, lapping at her face with vigour. She giggled and stroked its soft fur; there was something very calming and magical about playing with puppies. It was easy to understand, after having that experience, why they were used so often as service dogs or as stress relievers at exam periods.

"Hey, Cal," Victor's voice startled the boy into recognition, but Trixie stayed absorbed in her new companion. He was wielding a packet that looked ridiculously small in his hands. "You wanna feed the reindeer?"

"Is that even a question that needs asking?"

Avery had always assured Isabeau that he looked fine just the way he was. While he did believe her, coming across other Talis made him nervous because his appearance had been a problem for him when he was small. If he'd been born just a regular Tali like most of them, he wouldn't be in this situation now.

He blinked at Morgiana's words, taking them in slowly, and he eventually smiled. He looked embarrassed, but in a good way; in a way that made most blush and look away. He did look away, smiling timidly, and running a paw in the snow. "Th-thank you," he whispered. "I-it means a lot."

That alone would've been enough, but then the Tali offered a candy cane to them. Sure, it was a small little thing, but it overwhelmed Isabeau to have a stranger give them a little something. "R... Really?" he asked, his voice going high-pitched again. Before he knew it, Morgiana had handed over the candy cane, and Isabeau stared at it with wide eyes. "Oh... But..." He paused, and then he looked from the candy cane to Morgiana. "But I don't have anything for you." He couldn't just take this and give nothing in return. It wouldn't feel right, for one; and for two, this was the season to give, right?

He had nothing on his person, but he looked all over himself anyway. He had to have something, anything. It was while looking around that he eventually realized he did have something he could give her. "I-it might be... um... s-something extra, b-but I hope you'll accept it!" Holding the candy cane with one wing, he pulled on the scarf he had around his neck.

It was a very simple and generic scarf; just red with white strings at the ends, and with a few embroidered snowflakes near the ends. He unwrapped it from around his neck, and he placed it around Morgiana's neck, letting it hand loose on both sides. He didn't want to tie it and invade her privacy.

Avery had been watching this whole time, and she tilted her head at Isabeau giving up his scarf. "But Isabeau, you might catch a cold without anything on." She could appreciate his giving spirit, but she didn't really agree with this one.

But Isabeau shook his head and smiled. "It's okay," he assured her, "Maybe I'll find a new one here!" He turned to Morgiana, and he smiled timidly. "Thank you so much for the candy cane! I-I hope you have a nice holiday season!" He then turned to Avery, and his tail started waging. "Come on, Avery! Let's go see all the festivities!" And before long, the Tali was off, heading straight for the Christmas events and things happening ahead.

Avery wanted to stop him, but he was too fast for her. Well, looked like she was destined to spend some time here, despite all her efforts. "Thank you for being so nice to him," she said as she turned to face Morgiana. "I think you made his day." She lifted a wing and bid farewell to the Tali. "Happy holidays! See you around," she wished, and then she headed off after the other Tali. "Isabeau, wait! We shouldn't get separated!" What a handful he was. Yet, she couldn't really see herself not having him around.

That was fun! The first round of participants had spent their time enjoying the festivities, exploring the square that was still bursting with good cheer and excitement. The actual holiday might be over, but that definitely did not mean the event was! It wasn't necessarily a Christmas event; it was more of a winter solstice event, celebrating the season that many people loved so much. The fact that such goodwill and peace on earth came along with it was just a bonus. Snowflake looked on eagerly, awaiting the next participants in the joyful activities all around her. "Come one, come all!" she called, a flurry of snowflakes falling around her. "Come and join the winter event!"

The holiday season had always been a bit of a low time for Brendon. While he had never been particularly religious, his parents had been on the far end of overbearing with their worship. Christmas had never been for him what it had for his classmates. He remembered being jealous, as a kid, for all the gifts that the other children in his class boasted about after winter break ended. Hot cocoa, family gatherings, it had always seemed like so much fun. Much more fun than their rather clinically barren household.

He had asked once, when he was eight, why they didn't get any Christmas presents. It had been the day after school began again and they had been in the car. His father had looked entirely disappointed with him, his mouth a hard line in the rearview mirror as he went on about the sanctity of their religion and condemned consumer holidays ruining a holy time.

Brendon had been a bit young at the time to understand what it was all supposed to mean. He just knew that Tommy from across the street had gotten a cool transformer action figure, and he hadn't gotten anything.

He didn't ask anymore after that, though.

He'd been hesitant to accept an invitation to the winter festival when it had been extended his way. He didn't like thinking about his family now that they had lost touch - or more that he'd been excommunicated. Nyx had looked so hopeful when she had asked, though, and he wasn't one to say no to such a pretty face. So he found his good scarf and wrapped it securely around his neck, shrugged on his thickest winter jacket, and wandered off to meet her at the bonfire.

This was it! They were finally here! Raena's eyes sparkled with the light of the huge bonfire that welcomed them to the winter festivities. With a warm smile, she turned on her heels to address the small crowd of students gathered behind her.

"Okay everyone," she began. The low level of chatter around her stopped instantly when she spoke. "Have fun out there! You deserve it. We'll all meet at the designated time in front of that huge tree over there, understood?" Everyone nodded in sync with her instructions. "Now get out of here... and stay out of trouble!"

Raena watched with a gentle smile as most of her students scattered in all directions. It was so hard to believe they had been with her for almost an entire year. All too soon, they would be out in the world on their own. It pained her to think of what they would do without her. It always did.

Geyser / Glacier
Sigma / Lumo
All anthro.

It wasn't very often that the super wolf team got to kick back. Evil and crime did not stop even during the holidays, and usually the wolves ended up fighting baddies instead of spending time relaxing. Miraculously, however, they hadn't had any reports of wrongdoing come in for a while. And so Geyser decided that it would be good for everyone to have a little holiday.

He had heard that a Christmas village of sorts had been set up in Nabias. Out of everyone on the team, Glacier and Lumo were the most interested. And then, when he mentioned the trip to Sigma, she had tilted her head and asked, in her usual mechanical voice, "What...is a 'Christmas'?"

So naturally, she had to come along as well.

The four made their way through the town, and eventually the sights of the village came into view. The first thing they saw was the crackling bonfire; the first thing they smelled was the almost overwhelming scent of baked goods and chocolate and candy. They walked up to the bonfire and stopped to gaze more closely at everything that was going on. "Well, would you look at all this!" Geyser exclaimed, beaming at the festivities. "It's bigger than I thought it would be!"

"I know, right?" Glacier said. "I don't even know where to start exploring!"

Magi, Twylla & Rory

“Okay, so it looks like we’re back in the town,” Magi looked over his shoulder at his sister and cousin. “We should be able to relax.” Bringing up a menu screen that only he could see, he disarmed his staff, knowing that he would probably look out of place in Nabias if he was wielding it. After all, it wasn’t like everyone else in the town knew about the...odd circumstances behind the trio’s arrival in Evelon.

Twylla pumped her fist into the air, letting out a triumphant shout. “Yes! We should be able to find a place nearby to upgrade our equipment and weapons, right?” Her sword seemingly vanished from her side, as she followed her brother’s lead in removing her weapon. “Not that I don’t enjoy the claws and teeth I have in my beast - err, Kuhna form - but I’d like to be able to defend myself in this form as well. And that starting weapon is kind of crap.”

Their cousin, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke up. “I’m not sure if there would be a blacksmith or something nearby or not. Remember, this isn’t actually an RPG. We’re in an actual land, with actual people. It’s not set up to be convenient...hey, what’s going on over there?” He interrupted his train of thought as he noticed some sort of gathering in the town square.

“A community event?” Twylla asked. “It is still Christmas-time. Do you think there will be any sort of special items we can get from taking part?”

Magi rolled his eyes. “Weren’t you listening? This isn’t an actual RPG.” Despite his words, he was already changing course, heading towards the town square where all of the activity seemed to be taking place. “But it might be nice to take part in a Christmas event. We could use some time off, considering all the grinding we’ve been doing to level up.”
