Vesz?©ly with Vex floating above her head followed the slithy through the many twists and turns.

Vesz glanced at the warehouse when they arrived. Sure, it wasn't in tip-top condition, but it was shelter, and that was good. Vex fell about six inches when he heard the whistle, but quickly recovered, trying to look like the whistle hadn't supprised him at all. Calm down Vex, it's okay. Vesz?©ly thought at him. I'm fine Vex thought back at her even though he had started to hypervenilate. Vesz?©ly rolled her eyes.

Vesz?©ly watched the rodent. Why was she holding a pocketwatch? Slanter? That must be the slithy's name, she concluded.

Upon reaching their destination, Gus stopped, sat down, and examined the home of this creature.

He was at a loss of words to describe it. But, at the same time, sleeping here was far better then sleeping in some random corner. So he didn't have a right to complain right now.

After some moments, the amphibian whistled, causing a rodent carrying a pocketwatch to come running. The creature referred to the Slikey as 'Slanter,' which answered Gus's previous question.

Then the rodent asked who he, the angst ball, and the fenling ball were.

"I'm Gus. I'm a Cake Kuhna." he promptly said.

"Nice to meet you, Gus," Thenna said, releasing Slanter. She grinned at him slightly before turning to the other two. She raised one eyebrow, managing to look almost human, and asked, "And you?"

Slanter heived open the door slightly more than it already was to allow a bit more of the fading sulight in. "Hey, let's get iniside. There'll be time for introductions then."

So the kuhna's name was Gus. Good to know. "Oh." said Vesz?©ly, who had purposely ignored the question. "I'm Vesz?©ly, and he's Vex," she replied, flicking one of her tails upward to indicate the angst ball. Why hadn't she given a fake name? Because she didn't think of it.

Nice use of our names, Vex thought to her dryly.

Oops. Sorry, she thought back, wincing slightly at the slip-up. She then abrutly broke the connection, following Slanter into the warehouse.

"Vesz?©ly... Vex..." Thenna pointed to each in turn as she said their names. "Lord knows I'll get you two confused..."

A dim light shone in the relative darkness of the building, completely seperate from the amber glow from the windows and doors. It burned a bright crimson, a flame held in midair.

Slanter gave a sigh at the sight of the fire. "I'm surprised to see you here," he said with a laugh. Something moved in the darkness, at first nothing more tan another shadow, then gaining definition and clarity until the form of a Candle Shinzo stepped into the fading sunlight. The flame rested in the center of his upturned front paw.

"It's good to see you, too," it replied, grinning. He glanced over Slanter to Thenna. "My, my. What a beautiful lady!" He stepped around the Slithy, taking the Rattegan's paw in his own. He kissed it lightly, his other paw slipping behind her to snatch the watch. "Why, I've never seen such a treasure before! Well, except maybe this..." He pulled the trinket into view, a triumphant look on his face.

"Give me that!" Thenna snarled, snatching the watch back. She glanced over at Slanter. "And who's this one?"

Slanter laughed slightly. "Him? Why, he's Donicus, highwayman, theif, gentleman, scoundrel."

"At your service," Donicus finished with a bow.

Gus got up and prepared to follow Slanter into his home, when he took a quick glance down the alley-and caught a brief glimpse of blue feathers and tan scales.

But before he could piece together what it was, it was gone.

Shrugging, he went into the disrepaired warehouse.

Finding himself a place to sit, he watched as the Candle Shinzo appeared, kissing the paw of Thenna the Rattegan and theiving her watch while he was at it.

Slanter introduced the Shinzo as Donicus, who was, among other things, a thief and a scoundrel.

Thieves?! thought the Kuhna. So he was amongst thieves. That explained why Slanter snatched those apples earlier.

With some difficulty, he managed to keep his surprise in, and plopped down.

Vesz?©ly jumped a little when she saw a flame seeming to be floating in midair. She and Vex watched the Candle Shinzo step out of the shadows, Vex trying to look as if the appearence of the shinzo hadn't scared him half to death.

Vesz?©ly nodded her head in greeting as Slanter introduced the shinzo. Thief? Oh, the irony of it. Of course, she rarely did the actual stealing. She prefered to do the hacking and technical stuff. Wait till she told Letifer about this. But, no, why shoud she tell Letifer? He had kicked her out for the time being. This could be hers and Vex's little secret.

Don't tell Letifer, she thought to Vex, just to be sure.

Whatever, Vex replied, seeming not to care.

Slanter gauged the reactions of each of the other pets. Gus seemed like he was trying to hide his reaction, most likely one of disgust or utter shock. Vex appeared shocked, Vesz?©ly more interested than anything. Maybe she'd dealt with criminals before.

"You let it slip, mate," Donicus said with a laugh.

"Huh?"

"You said the 'T' word..." He turned his attention to the others. "Don't worry, I'm not one of the bad kinds of theives. I only take what I need."

"Only what you need?" Thenna gave a mock laugh. "And you just had to have my trinket?"

"Well, sometimes I can't help myself," the Shinzo teased back. "Appearantly you have the same problem."

"I found this, so it's mine! Finders keepers!"

Vesz?©ly rolled her eyes. He only took what he needed? Puhleese. She'd never heard of a theif who didn't steal a valuble shiny object or two. Except maybe Robin Hood, but he wasn't even real. Apparently, the rattegan agreed with her.

"You're a group of thieves!" Vex exclaimed in shock. Vesz?©ly resisted the urge to slap Vex out of the air. Instead, she rolled her eyes. Again. She seemed to be doing a lot of that lately.

"Thanks for stating the obvious, Vex," she said dryly. She refrained with great diffulculty from rolling her eyes once again.

"Just smack the little bugger," Donicus laughed, noticing the irritation on the fenling's face.

"So," Slanter's attention was also focused on Vesz?©ly, "how've you delt with our kind before? You don't seem utterly perturbed to be spendng the night with a 'group of theives' as your little friend there so easily put it."

Vesz?©ly's eyes brightened a little when Donicus encouraged her. Vex must have known what she wanted to do, for he hovered further in the air. Vesz?©ly stood on her hind legs and managed to hit him hard enough to make him go tumbling through the air. Vex returned and glared at her disdainfully.

She turned back to Slanter as she heard him speak. "Um..." said Vesz?©ly, stalling. She had to get better at acting. "I've, ah, met other theives before."

Gus kept his mouth shut while the others around him talked.

He had come here to find a loose reptile, and now he was with a group of thieves. No matter if they were "good" thieves, they were still thieves.

On that matter, this was the first time he'd dealt with thieves. Murderers, yes, but not thieves.

Right now, however, his thoughts seemed to be drifting off, and the kuhna began to feel even more tired. He attempted to stay awake, in case their hosts directed them to a more comfortable place.

"Other theives, huh?" Now Donicus was the interested one. "Maybe I've met them..." Thus he was launchedinto a long list of the many bands he'd met during his life, many a harrowing tale behind every one. Even Thenna was captivated; the easily distracted rat was so easily pulled into a story.

Slanter simply ignored them. True, he was a part of most of the stories, but he'd rather not hear them again. Instead, he turned his attentions to Gus, who had been sitting quietly and, apparently, drifting the sleep. "Hey," he said, "You look tired. We've got some blankets and old mattresses over here if you want to use 'em." He began to walk toward the back of the large building, far enough away from the rest of the group for some quiet.

Vesz?©ly's ears pricked forward and she listened carefully to see if her band had been mentioned. Nope, that was good, best if they weren't discovered. She glanced at the kuhna and noticed how tired he looked. It made her feel a bit tired herself, but she shoke the feeling away. She could manage to stay awake for about three days straight, a few hours wouldn't be a problem.

Vex hovered close above her head, still miffed about being smacked through the air. He noticed Gus's tiredness too.  I feel so, so- he told Vesz?©ly, trying to find the right word.

What, Vex? she interupted, genuine concern in her thought-speech.

I feel so rude and impolite, Vex finished, his wings fluttering fretfully. I feel like we have been ignoring Gus, and that's just, just so-

Rude, I get it. Vesz?©ly sighed to herself. Whatever. She felt like rolling her eyes at him again, but she'd been doing way to much of that lately. I'm mentally rolling my eyes at you Vex, she thought to him. He gave her a regal sniff and chose to ignore her comment.

Gus came back to his senses when Slanter spoke to him. Opening his eyes, he stood up.

"That'd be nice," he said in response, and began looking around for the mattresses. He really didn't need a blanket, he had fur.
