[Kitsumi]

The next minute or two passed in comfortable silence as the three adults passed out the food. Jack filled three cups with ice and water, bringing them over to the table and setting one in front of each plate. Once everything was ready, the three sat down and began to eat.

"So," Callie spoke in between bites of her food. "Matt, how did the two of you meet?" She was curious about what Jack's life had been like while she had been forced to sever ties with him.

The man finished chewing and swallowed first, before he opened his mouth to answer.

[Kitsumi]

"We worked together," he answered. "Right after Jack finished college, he started as an intern at the company where I work."

"Actually, we were both interns," Jack chimed in. "And we were kind of competing for the sole permanent job at the company. Guess who won in the end?" He glared at the other man.

[Kitsumi]

"Hey, don't look at me like that," Matt said, laughing. Then, to Callie, he explained, "Jackie boy here was actually their first choice. They offered him the job, but he got a better offer elsewhere. Since I was the only one left, they caved and decided to hire me after all."

[Kitsumi]

Callie giggled and shook her head. "Hey, it sounds like it was a win all around, then," she said.

"Yeah, for everyone except the company that had to hire Matt!" Jack teased. He then had to immediately dodge, as Matt flung what appeared to be a fortune cookie wrapper at his head.

[Kitsumi]

"Hey now, at least warn a guy first!" Jack cried. But then, without warning, he flung one of his lo mein noodles at Matt.

Callie began to back away from the table, not wanting to get involved. "Hey, have a food fight if you want," she said. "But you boys are cleaning up the mess!"

[Kitsumi]

Her words did nothing to dissuade the men from the chaos that quickly ensued. Luckily, they seemed to stick to flinging food without any sauce on it, making the mess a bit easier to clean up and less likely to stain. Still, it was a horrible sight to behold... and also slightly hilarious.

When the men had finally finished throwing food at each other, Callie returned to the table. Hands on her hips, she glared at the two of them. "Every single noodle had better be picked up and thrown away," she said. "I don't want my new home smelling like a garbage dump because of rotting food."
