It wasn't often that Spardia pulled strings of any sort, but today was a special occasion. Hexia was showing huge promise as a blood witch, Atticus held his roots strongly in his families vampiric heritage with just a touch of her magic. And Eden....was Eden. The child was rather aloof with her family, never really wanting to engage. Spardia couldn't allow that--the situation mirrored her own childhood too closely. But, unlike her parents, she was going to do something about it.

The request had been odd--Tremere had been sent off with the other siblings and the restaurant the couple had first met at sat empty save for Spardia herself. The tables had largely been cleared off to the side, leaving only a single table in the center of the room with a small assortment of goodies. Candies and sweets mostly--a few spiced ciders to warm the soul from the cold front that held the coast in its icy grip.

Two chairs were placed side by side, though Spardia had yet to take her seat. Eden had not yet shown, though her mother was confident the girl would. It was not often either parent requested a private audience with one of their children...or on such short notice.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

Eden was never one to turn down time with her family, even if it sometimes made her uncomfortable. She loved her parents and siblings, she was just... Different. She hadn't shown anything of her vampiric heritage other than the slightly elongated canines. She had even drank blood at her father's urging once. It hadn't been unpleasant, but she hadn't felt the need to do so afterwords either. Tremere wasn't angry, and Spardia had just seemed a little disappointed. Even so, neither parent had urged her to do anything she didn't want to. She just... Felt somewhat lost in the grand scheme of things.

The invitation was welcome at least. She had dressed warmly for the occasion, entering the door cautiously before spotting her mother. Smiling a little the teen shut the door before coming over, careful to wipe her boots on the floor mat. "Hello mother. Sorry I'm a little late, the weather is terrible." Who knew that the coast got such terrible snow this time of year?

Spardia heard the door creak open and felt the rush of snow-filled air rush into the establishment before opening her eyes to fix them to Eden. Her daughter looked so like her when she had been that young, tender age. It drew a bit of warmth into the blood witches' otherwise cold heart. Standing to greet her, Spardia pulled her in for a light hug, gently tugging at the shoulders of Eden's coat to encourage her daughter to take it off and stay a while. The weather had indeed been unpredictable this year--reports of warm, almost summer days in areas that should be getting snow while the snow clouds had seemingly settled over otherwise warm regions.

"Eden, my dear, I'm just glad to see you here. Come, sit my child. We have much to talk about..." Spardia had used some of Tremere's pull to clear this place, and to 'encourage' the cook to whip up some of Eden's favorite treats. Of course this would probably give the girl worries about what exactly this talk was about...but Spardia hoped that once she began talking all would be clear. She would not sit back idle as her parents once had and watch her daughter spiral away from her. She would be the better parent and reach out to her with what humanity and compassion the blood magic hadn't stripped from her yet.

Eden nearly melted into her mother's hug, arms holding her gently before she was urged to take off her coat. Tremere was never shy with his affection, hugs and kisses and rocking her back to sleep, but Spardia had never been particularly physically affectionate. She'd take whatever she could get, and carefully peeled off her coat without getting snow everywhere. Nodding she sat down, looking over the table with a slight smile. Most of her favorite dishes were there - but she was starting to worry as to why.

"And what would that be mother?" She asked curiously, wrapping her hands around the cup of hot cider with a content sigh. One of her favorite hot drinks, warm and smelling of mulling spices and caramel. She did have a sweet tooth, but also enjoyed rich and heavy foods. Probably likening to her vampiric heritage, whenever she had seen a vampire eat real food it was always rich and sweet.

Spardia waited until she was settled and cozy, a warm drink in her hands. She loved to watch her children--the maternal warmness that she lacked she had always made up for in admiration of all three of these precious children born, at first, out of spite.

"It is so rare we get to talk, just you and I. And I have many things I wish to talk with you about. If you'll allow," she offered, taking up a cup of cider herself. So many things they shared in common, but she was at such a tender age. Would she even be willing to listen.

"You know, I was exactly where you are now. A sister who look after her mother, a brother who took after his father. And then there was me...with nothing special to speak of. Does that sound familiar, my child?"

If nothing else, Eden did always listen. Listening didn't always mean taking action, but she certainly listened. Every word of praise for her siblings, every time Hexia berated her for not taking more interest in their family, in hating parts of it. She just wasn't sure why she should. No one was perfect, and even though there were mistakes, it didn't mean you hated your family. Not all of them were bad.

"Of course mother. I do miss spending time with you." It was the truth. She had been focused lately on helping Hexia and Atticus with their blood magic, and she couldn't fault her for that. Atticus was still not doing so well on the control part of that magic.

Nodding slightly she took a slow sip of the cider, savoring it while trying to find an appropriate response. "A little. But I think Atticus takes more after the both of you than just one." She smiled softly, always having a soft spot for the brother that always made sure to make time for her. She had wondered in the beginning, if perhaps she would develop some sort of power, but it was painfully obvious that would not be the case now.

Her attention, as she was sure her own parent's attention had, did pass Eden over at times. Though that was what tonight was about--some true bonding time, just the two of them. Something she could never remember being remotely offered at her age. "Yes, he does take after me as well," Spardia laughed lightly as she sipped from her cup.

"Your aunt, uncle and I were exactly the same as you, Hexia, and Atticus now. Even in your closeness with Atticus and...distance from Hexia. It is hard, at times, for me to watch my own history repeat itself. But that, dear Eden, is why we are here tonight." Placing the cup on the table, Spardia leaned back in her chair and laced her fingers together thoughtfully as she watched Eden.

"I have been where you are, felt what you are feeling. And never once did I receive the love and recognition from your grandparent that I craved. Instead they sent me off to find my own 'happiness'," her words began to sour but she quickly pulled herself back into a pleasant tone. "You, my little, lovely Eden, are exactly like me. And because of that, I know that one day you will find something that you fully embrace, as I have embraced my magic. You have that power of will in you, my daughter, and I know you are capable of putting it to good use."

Eden just nodded slightly. She understood the parallels, though they weren't quite as severe. Atticus did play peacemaker between his sisters, but they all did get along much better than their mother, aunt, and uncle. Their relationship with their parents would never be quite as horrible as with their grandparents either. Eden wasn't so sure why her mother felt the way that she did, and she knew that there was more to the story than what was being told. For now though she could be content in gaining a bit more attention.

"I've tried a lot of things, but I can't say I've tried them all." She paused to take a sip from her cup, and try to figure out what she would say to her mother. Not that this wasn't all appreciated - but she didn't feel the pull towards magic, nor the want to be forcefully turned into a vampire. "I know I will find something that I want to do, but for now I'm happy where I am."

Spardia poured herself a cup of cider as she watched Eden mull over her words. It was hard to take in, she knew, and very few children really liked to hear about their parents hardships. But Eden needed to hear it if Spardia was to get her to bond--to feel closer to her than Spardia had ever felt towards Lysa. She didn't want to foster the rift that her parents before her had with her own daughter.

"It took me years before magic called to me, my child. You only need to keep trying and learning, and one day something will call out to you just as strongly. And when it does, I know you will have the wisdom to go to it with open arms. No matter what it is that calls you."

Nodding slightly she smiled to her mother. She always had kind words for her kids, even when something went wrong or not according to some sort of plan. She knew that her mother tried, and that was enough. Somehow she couldn't help but think that perhaps Lysa and Caine had tried in their own way, and even if they had kept her mother close and tried to bond with her she would have lashed out. Spardia just seemed to have that sort of personality.

"I do like learning." She offered, carefully reaching to take a bite of a delicate cookie. "Even though it's cold, on the clear nights they say it's best to see the stars. I'm going to the observatory, out near the lighthouse, to learn about the constellations." Atticus had recently gotten a new tattoo of some sort of intricate series of stars; perhaps what was spurring her on to this particular subject.

"To the observatory?" Spardia echoed lightly, sounding more intrigued than skeptical. Plenty of magical practices used the alignment of the stars and moon to enhance spells so she was not unfamiliar. It was, however, an interesting field to her for her daughter to have found some interest in. They had never gone stargazing as a family, or even as individuals that she was aware of. But it could also be a sign of great promise for Eden--a child who's mind was so brilliant she had to look up and into the unknown to find things worth her mind's power.

"I don't believe I've ever been, though I have heard of it. It sounds like an enlightening place to be and one of great calmness." For the moment the fiercness and level of harsh control in her voice was gone and she was truly enchanted by her daughter's latest endeaver. "What draws you to the stars? I'm merely curious, I don't recall a time we've spent looking at or talking about what calls the skies home."

The wonder in her mother's voice was pleasing. It was rare for her parents to take such interest in her endeavors. Not that they didn't care, but they wanted to let her explore. For that she was grateful for, it gave her more freedom than Atticus or Hexia. Pursuing any fancy that caught her attention was freeing.

"I've always liked to watch the sky, when you or father are hunting. It's soothing. And then Atticus wanted me to choose which stars he put on his arm, something strong he said. I found him what he was after, the Hydra, but I was drawn to another constellation. It's called Puppis." She turned to a small plate and gently arranged some cookies on it to show Spardia the one she spoke of. "This one, Naos, is visible in the sky tonight."

Spardia watched as her daughter arranged cookies into a constellation, mesmerized. It was a rare glimpse into what her daughter chose to study while she was away working with Hexia and Atticus no matter how little she knew of the subject. It was just nice to see Eden embracing something so deeply, to learn the names of individual stars. She remembered having once done the same with veins and arteries in the human body...

"Is this star what draws you to the observatory tonight?" she asked softly, watching the cookie-Naos and her daughter closely for a moment. The body language of a person talking about something they loved was very telling, as was the intuition of a mother, and both were telling Spardia that tonight would not be an opportune night to tag along with Eden.

"Yes." Eden breathed softly, fingertips lingering on the cookie, though her mind was far from the delicate pastry. It was easy to see the far-away look in her eyes as she started to describe what she was seeing. "It's visible even without a telescope, but it's handsome viewing it with. The colors are like cognac, or persimmons." The orange-red hue was truly breathtaking and had drawn her the moment she had lain eyes on it. "Naos is even brighter than any of the stars Atticus picked out." He hadn't been looking at that however, more so as to how the constellations looked on his skin. She couldn't fault him for that.

Realizing she had been rambling her cheeks colored in a soft blush, drawing her fingers back to wipe them on the napkin in her lap. "I could take some pictures to bring you, if you wanted to see."

A rare smile touched Spardia's lips as she listened to Eden talk. Such a hopeful dreamer this one...at least she didn't harbor her own mean spirit. Spardia could be difficult and curt, that was no surprise to even the Blood Mage. But it was comforting to see that it hadn't continued too much further into her own lineage. It was a trait she'd happily let die with her. The way she spoke of this star was so full of wonderful brightness--it warmed her mother's cold heart to just listen.

"Well then, it sounds as though you have quite a hot date awaiting you," Spardia joked, the smile receding to something more befitting her usual persona. "I believe we have eaten enough sweets for the night; perhaps you should head to your observatory before the weather decides to make a change. The cold coastal breezes blow just about anything our way this time of year."

It was a warm reminder out of love and out of not wanting her daughter to miss an opportunity. "We will do this again sometime soon, and you can bring all your photographs of your stars to show me then."
