A Well-Deserved Break [Ari/Silver][M:E just in case]

Jackson sighed and pushed some of his newly-cut hair behind his ear as he strolled down the path along the boardwalk, taking in the sights and sounds of seaside life. There were vendors all over the place, artists, street performers... People walking or jogging, and a lot of kids. Granted, there were a lot of kids at most parts of the seaside, but especially here on the boardwalk. His gaze traveled across the bustle to the sea beyond, and he paused in his traversing the path to walk over to one of the retaining walls and look over the crashing waves.

There was a sense of peace that came from spending the day away from work, and he let it wash over him like the salty sea air and the gentle breeze from the water. As he relaxed, he let his mind wander and his eyes close. There wasn't much that he wanted to do right now - other than being out of that ER, and out of ambulances for the time being. EMT work was rewarding, and it earned a high place in his book of things that mattered. Even so, it was weary work. His feet ached more from running around trying to save lives, than they'd ever ached from long walks, or taking a jog. Medical professionals had it rough. EMTs had it far rougher in his opinion.

It had been an perfect morning so far. This was only Swirl's second day here, but she had already grown a liking to this place. Wonderful weather and a view of the sea; all she could ever need! There was an enthusiastic, honest smile on her face as she whirled up cone after cone of soft, fluffy candy. The whir of the engine was tuned out by the cheerful tune she hummed as she worked.

After a few hours of that, it was time to take a little break. Swirl looked through the cabinets on the back of her cart and pulled out a little plastic sign. 'Back in 5!' it said, with a smiley face drawn on in marker. She plopped it on the front of the cart where the cotton candy machine was, and grabbed herself a bottle of lemonade from her own personal cooler. Then she flopped down in the first shady spot she could find, just off the path and still in view of her cart, of course. With a sigh of content, she took a long sip of her drink,
nearly emptying the bottle in one gulp.

"Perfect," she hummed to herself, turning her gaze to the beach where she could watch the people walk by.

I'm just here flying off the deep end.
I'm just here to become the best yet.
I'm just here for the psych assessment.
I'm just here for the, for the...

The telltale sight, and scent, of a cotton candy cart, wafted by Jackson, and he turned in his musings to watch a young lady wheeling by selling the stuff. That was honestly a bit of a trip - he didn't really see those old-fashioned carts around anymore. She looked as though she were on a break, and... well... Jackson had an extra sandwich. He pushed himself away from the railing, opened his pack, and pulled out a PB&J. There were four since he hadn't known how long he was going to be here. Offering it to this young lady wouldn't make too much of a difference. As a matter of fact, that was exactly what he did, fishing in his back to draw one out, and crouching beside the lemonade-drinking young woman.

"You picked a nice day for it," he said conversationally, sliding himself down on the grass, and offering her the sandwich in his hand. "You look hungry - here. I made it myself. Well, I made four of them. I don't think I'm going to eat that many."
