"Ah..." Nitidus knew that question would have come up at some point. Of course, she didn't blame him for not being around, really. She'd made her own choices. As she prepared to explain, she found all of the kids' interest peaked as well. Heh. They'd never really heard the full story as to why he was gone as much as he was, especially when their other grandmother, whom apparently knew him very well, was around just about everyday. "He left...when I was equivalent to a fifteen year old human, before any of the... mess...picked up. Perhaps you've heard of that stupid war? He was sent to fight, without much of a choice. The way he explained it before he left was that, sometimes, one had to take responsibility and take a hit for everyone else. Because he was going, one of our friends wouldn't have to risk their lives. I was both happy and terribly sad to see him go, happy only because he pampered me so much as a child it was annoying by then. I was still young and ignorant enough to find freedom from that little annoyance something to be happy about. I didn't feel that way very long..." How so much Zelosis had wanted a daughter, Nitidus ended up being his dream come true.
There was only a small break, which she forked a few bites carefully into her mouth, chewed and swallowed before pressing on. "My older half brother, Validus, watched over me for a time in his place. So did the Elder woman from his homeland, Kay. My full blooded brother, Viaticus, well, he left a long time ago. He didn't find himself worthy of the family or something. But, anyway, I went off on my own. Even as a child, though Father didn't know it, I was friends with Strages and Ente. Strages, their father. Once Father was gone, I stayed with them and their mother, Akaona. She's the grandmother they grew up knowing." She glanced around at Aeron, Crozel and Adra. Yep. They were still listening...
"As for everything that happened while Father was away, he never heard any of it. I don't want him to... Something bad would happen to them, he and Strages, if they fought. Besides, it was never my father's decision, and worrying him isn't something I want to do. He and I are, perhaps, more alike then we seem." Of course, Zelosis never told her the bad stories from his life previous to coming to this world, but she saw it in glimpses. There were tons of scars permanently etched into his back that he couldn't always hide, most of which looked as if they had come from a whip. Some sort of self sacrifice must have been put forth for such to happen in a royal family. Then there was that demon, Af, that was let loose in their home... When he fought and bound himself to that horrible creature, the conditions of the binding being that it could only attack him and as often as it pleased, it wasn't hard to see her father's intentions.
