Neo and Scotch

It was mid-day as Neopolitain and Butterscotch walked silently along the shore. Neo had an idea of why Scotch had asked to take her out on a walk but she didn't want to bring it up. In fact she didn't want to talk to him about it at all. She was so glad that she invited her kids Eliot and Berry to come save her later.  The sun danced along the water in an almost blinding spectacle of light. The waves washed up against the shore almost touching the kuhnas. Neo looked out at the water. It was such a pretty turquoise today, it reminded her of Cay's fur color. He seemed like a good match for her Berry, but time would tell for sure.

Scotch knew that Neo's mind was elsewhere. He only hoped it wasn't on another kuhna. He fought every urge to just admit his feelings right then, but it wasn't the right time. He looked over at her framed by sand and palm trees. She was just the sweetest thing in the world. If only she felt the same way.

Scotch pushed the sand around with his paws. Poor thing was so nervous about telling Neo how he really felt. His thoughts were all a swirling blur. By the time he comes back to earth Neo is calling his name. He looks up and Neo has walked significantly ahead of him towards a rocky outcrop. She was peering into something, but Scotch couldn't see what it was

"Scotch! Come here and look at this!"

He walked up to her and found her with her face so close to a tidal pool that her nose almost grazed the water.

"Look at this neat tidal pool I found. It's full of starfish and sea urchins."

Scotch leaned forward for a closer look and saw inside of the pool. It was filled with small starfish and sea urchins, some were no bigger than a pencil eraser. It would figure that she would find something so unique like this.

The kids would love this. Neo thought to herself as she looked at all the starfish and sea urchins. They were in such an array of colors that she never thought possible. She twitched her tail back and forth in excitement. How cool was this!

"Look at that pink starfish. It looks like a cranberry."

Scotch cocked his head to one side "Maybe a squished cranberry."

'Oh your no fun. Use your imagination silly."

Scotch chucked "Sorry I guess I'm not as right brained as you." she was different than any other kuhna that he knew. He loved that about her.

[Sitara]

Neo went back to watching the starfish and sea urchins with interest. But Scotch kept his eyes on Neo. He sighed as he sat down on the warm rocks. How could he get her to notice him as more than just a friend? There were times where he just wanted to shake her in order for her to see the obvious. All the other kuhnas could see it and have frequently reminded him about that fact. Gods in heaven this was frustrating!

At that moment Neo happened to look up and noticed Scotch's pained face. "Hey Scotch... are you ok?"

Scotch took a deep breath to push his thoughts else where for the time being. "Yes I'm ok. I just have a lot on my plate right now."

"Do you need to head home to work? I'll understand if you..."

"No no. It's ok. I just have been letting my thoughts wander unnecessarily." He jumps down off the rocks and back onto the sand. "Let's keep walking."

Neo agreed and after saying goodbye to the tide pool she hops down to join Scotch.

Neo watched scotch for a while as they continued to walk down the shore. What could be causeing him this much pain. Surely it wasn't her. Lets be realistic here, Neo thought to herself, I'm not that pretty and true there were other kuhnas that were stranger than her but she ranked herself pretty high up there. She had realized long ago that Scotch had feelings for her, but they couldn't be that strong right? It's not like anyone becides him had felt like that about her. And that was so long ago.

[Sitara]

As she snapped out of her thoughts Neo realizes that she has stopped walking and has fallen behind. She shakes her head to clear out her thoughts then trots back up to Scotch who had stopped to wait for her.  
"Sorry about that. Guess I got trapped up in some thoughts too." She smiles at him. "Let's keep going."
They walk a little further down the beach. The water was such a pretty blue Neo thought to herself.
"We should go for a swim today sometime. The water looks really nice and I bet it's warm too."

"I think that's a great idea. I haven't been swimming in a while. Maybe we can go after lunch."

"Oh? Did you plan a lunch for us?"

"No, but your daughter asked me ahead of time if it would be alright if she and her new beau joined us for lunch and offered to bring a picnic lunch. It seemed like a good idea to me."

Neo would have to ask Berry later why she had gotten permission from Scotch after she had already told her to meet up with them, but oh well. It was the same outcome in any event.

As they continued along the soft white sand they came across a boardwalk. Scotch asked Neo to wait for just a minute while he went up to scope out the area beyond it. Neo was a little confused by the request, but she said that she would stay put as Scotch dashed away. Neo sat down and stared at the sea. There were so many new things that were coming into her life now. I male actually found her attractive, which she never thought would happen again, and it seemed as if her family would be growing even more with the addition of Cay to it. He was such a nice boy. She sighed, if only she could find a good female for Eliot. It will happen when it happens though, no sense in trying to force a girl on him.

Neo heard footsteps on the boardwalk behind her. She turned to look and she found Scotch climbing down the steps headed back towards her. "Would you mind if we stopped here for a little while. This is where Berry and Cay are going to meet us."

"Sure thing. It will be nice to have lunch with them."

[Sitara]

Scotch sat down in the sand next to Neo. They watch the waves crest and fall against the white sand. It seemed so much like a dream that Scotch wasn't sure if he was awake or asleep. He subconsciously reached out for Neo's paw, he realized what he was doing at the last second and quickly pulled away his paw. This was so hard keeping his emotions inside. Scotch wanted to just let them out so that way Neo would know how he felt and this weight would be lifted off his chest.

"You know Scotch, if you want to hold my paw you can."

Scotch was a pit taken aback at how forward she had been when she said that. He still put his paw over hers though. This felt wrong, he knew that these emotions were only one sided. He wanted to be selfish and just keep this moment ongoing forever. Scotch knew he couldn't because it would eat him up inside too much. He would just have to swallow his pride and ask her bluntly how she felt about him. Blunt usually worked best with Neo anyway. "Neo, I..." Footsteps interrupted his statement. The pair turned to see Cay and Berry heading towards them a small basket clasped in Berry's jaws. Neo took her paw back from Scotch and greeted her daughter. Scotch slightly irritated at the unfortunate interruption made a note to pick up on this conversation later.

Berry and Cay

Berry hummed to herself as she and Cay made their way down to the shoreline.

"You're so cute hunny." Cay told Berry with a big grin on his face. Her joy was so infectious he was always happy with her.

"Wha? Iphs no punny" her speech slightly muffled by the basket in her mouth.

"I'm not laughing at you hunny. I just think your so cute and you aren't even aware of it." He licks her cheek suddenly realizing that he was within eyesight of Berry's mother, Neo. Oops.

Berry puts down the basket so she can speak properly. "Ignore him mom. He's just not aware of his surroundings." she turns her attention to Scotch "Hello Scotch, how's the walk been so far with mom?" she starts unpacking the basket as she waits for Scotch's responce.

[Sitara]

Neo rolls her eyes at Cay, but she pretends to ignore him. Even if the whole scene had her slightly grossed out and disturbed. After all that was her daughter for gods sake. How could she not be affected?! "Anyway Berry, let me help you unpack all this food." After looking inside the basket she couldn't help but give a small hooray. It was all home-made, which means that Berry had cooked. Her daughter was such a good cook she had no idea where she got it from, she thanked the gods every day for it though. Going through the basket she pulled out fresh cake, cookies, strawberry pie, baked sweet potatoes, and glazed carrots. It was a good thing that everyone eating needed a primary diet of sugar otherwise there might have been a heart attack.

Scotch was very glad for food. He didn't realize how hungry he was. As the food was being pulled out his mouth started to water. Everything smelled so delicious and Neo was always raving about her daughter's cooking. This was the first time he had been able to try it and had high expectations. "Thank you very much Berry. Everything smells wonderful." He looked over at Neo pulling out dishes with such a big smile on her face. Her family made her so happy and he hoped that some day he would be able to make her this happy.

Berry started helping her mother unpack the picnic basket. She was very flattered by all the compliments she was getting. "Well hopefully everything meets your expectations." Cay started peering into the basket. He knew that Berry's family main diet was sugar and he needed it to. However that much sugar without some protien would make him sick. Berry saw him looking through the basket. "Don't worry Cay. There's some baked fish in there for you." Cay breathed a small sigh of relief. "Thanks Berry. You always think of everything."
"I do try to plan ahead occasionally." Berry giggled to herself. Cay worried to much sometimes.

Neo crinkled her nose at the word fish. She didn't eat fish that often, preferring a more vegetarian diet. However if it was cooked correctly she would eat some. She did quite enjoy Berry's pineapple glazed baked fish recipe very much. Even if she did occasionally have to add some extra sugar on top. She smiled unconsciously as she watched her daughter and her new beau. Yes they would make a good couple. She loved her daughter so much. And yet as she watched on she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness. Could it be that she missed being in love with someone. It had been so long and taking care of two kits had been a challenge driving all other thoughts from her head. Although now since  her kits were kuhnas now and fully independent she had more time to focus on herself. Maybe she should get out there and find a nice male to try and heal her old wounds.  Now was not the time to be thinking of that though, there was too much delicious food to be had, so she starts to fill her plate and fill her stomach. "Full marks all around sweetie. You never cease to amaze with your culinary talent."

Scotch filled his plate with many sugary treats and a few potatoes and carrots for good measure. No fish for him thanks very much. That could stay in the sea where it belonged. When he took his first bite of pie and was amazed. Berry's cooking was wonderful. "This is a real treat. Absolutely wonderful! I will have to make eating you're cooking a habit." He took another bite of pie. "Do you get your cooking technique from your lovely mother?" He hoped that he hadn't been to forward with that last statement, but she was lovely in every sense of the word. She was beautiful and one of the sweetest kuhnas he had met. He would get the courage to tell her all of this soon. Just as soon as the kits had left.

If there was still daylight, it would be near impossible to see, and if it was past nightfall, only few would actually notice it. Some people reported seeing a comet shooting overhead, while others saw the 'comet' landing in a bright flash of light in a nearby bush, or in the middle of the path in front of them.

It seemed, this Valentines, that the Legend of Love was indeed true, for the item that lay nearby, ready for your discovering, was Valentines related.

Berry giggled at Scotch's comment. "No it's not from mamma. Not that she's a bad cook mind you." she directs her attention to Neo "If you would only play around more with spices you could be really good." she turns her attention back to Scotch. "To be quite truthful we're not sure how I got my culinary talent at all." It could have been from her father but she couldn't even remember him.it was strange to think abt her father. All she knew was that he was a berry kuhna named Tanzanite. She hoped to find him one day, just to know what he's like.

Cay started eating his fish with gusto. He Thanked the gods for his lovely Berry. He would be so lost with out her and her delicious cooking. "Thank you darling this is wonderful." He nuzzles her cheek. He loved her so much. Then he grabbed himself a slice of pie. Strawberry his favorite. Berry always knew how to everything to make a moment special. Suddenly a small gleam caught his eye. Although it was so very difficult to see he managed to track its fall into a clump of sea oats nearby. He finished his mouthful of pie and decided to investigate. "I'll be right back." He trots off to see what that speck could have been.

"Wait honey, I'll go with you" Berry finishes the last of her sweet potatoes and scurries off after him. As they work their way through the sea oats they find a single red rose. "The legins about this place are true. Berry looks up at Cay "we should let Scotch have this. He's been working so hard to impress mom and he really is a good match for her. Plus I can't remember the last time she actually got flowers from a male, if ever. I think she needs it." Cay sighed "I suppose your right. I had been hoping to give it to you though, since I had found it. But for some reason it doesn't feel like mine anyway. I'll head back to sit with your mom and get Scotch over."
"Thank you." Berry kisses Cay.
"No problem. Good luck with Scotch." He kisses her back "I love you Berry."
"I love you too."
Cay climbs out of the bushes and heads back to the others. "Hey Scotch. We found an interesting shell that you should see."
