At Last I See The Light [P--Cita and I]

Kahewai inhaled the gentle, cool air into her lungs as the group neared the Falls. They hadn't had much time to dwell on things while seeking out their new home...and more than a few little surprises had joined them along the way. Kahewai couldn't complain--really it was just what she had wanted despite the fact the going had been slow since the addition of hatchlings to their family. But they were on a completely different continent than Quil now, and the Fairy could finally relax and revel in the joys of motherhood and her mate.

Which was part of why they had chosen to stop here. As they had been travelling they had heard about the romantic spot that was safe and open. It would be the perfect spot to let their children play and possibly even snag some alone time.

"Come on now, little ones. Stay close." Kahewai called back as she noted that some were beginning to lag behind.

"Coming mom!"

"No, me first!"

The yellow female that answered last came charging over top of her green brother--both sporting little Sails just like their father. Kahewai smiled and shook her head. They would all wear themselves down soon at this rate.

But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

"No need to push, little ones."

Orthos chuckled gently, keeping in close to Kawhewai so that he could keep a watchful eye on his children. They were quite the pleasant little surprises. At least they were close to home now, so they could settle down and get these hatchlings all rounded up. Neither had quite expected such a large brood.

Image
"Can we play in the water dada?"

The littlest of them asked at his side, happy not to push around with her other siblings. At least she was calm... She stuck close, and was happy to listen to her parents, at least most of the time.

Image
Kyra seemed to have other ideas. She was stalking her golden-sailed brother with quite a bit of determination, lagging behind, but trying to be stealthy with catching up to them. It wasn't as if the family was hard to find or anything.

Image
Rounding out their little band, Kepheus ran to catch up with his brother at their mother's heeding. He pushed on him playfully, nipping at his sister's wings. "Nuh-unh! I caught you first!"

Smiling to her mate, her eyes drifted down to the little Fairy nearest them. So polite...Kahewai felt her heart swell with pride a little. Now the others...oh they were just being children. She could only chuckle and shake her head lightly at them. "We should be at the wading pools soon, just be patient my little ones." She soothed, knowing fully well that their enthusiasm wouldn't be curbed by tone of voice alone. She looked to Orthos and adjusted her wings slightly. "Perhaps we will finally get a moment of peace while they splash each other." She chuckled.

Kalida shrilled as her brothers fought and played, fluttering her young and delicate wings excitedly. Oh, she would show those silly boys! Well, if she had been claimed as "caught first"...then she would pass it on! She glanced around and decided her fairy-sister would be no fun; finally her eyes fixed on Kyra. "Tag, you're it!" She chirped as she launched herself at her fellow Sailfin sibling.

Alexio sidestepped as he was pushed on and squealed lightly. "Hey!" He yelled as he began to playfully tackle his brother...and then he heard Kalida's words. Instantly his eyes flashed to Kyra and he fluttered his wings excitedly. "Kyra's it! Kyra's it!" He chirped and took off running. Of course, taking the time to give Kepheus a light tail smack as he went past.

"I think that they do not know the meaning of that word, my love." Orthos chuckled softly. Patience... Hopefully they would learn it, as they planned a trip to the Mountains once they were big enough to make the journey. He looked to his small daughter and smiled, leaning in for a gentle nuzzle to her wings. "Of course, Davina. We can play in the water."

Kyra was a little taken aback, but giggled and flitted her own wings as she danced away from Kalida. "I'm not gonna be it for long!" She took off after her siblings though glanced back at their parents briefly. They didn't lag too far behind, so she ran over to the water.

Kepheus grunted at the soft smack, laughing and nipping at Alexio. He lagged behind a little, he didn't have wings to help propel him forward, but he had developed quite the muscle on his legs to follow after them. "Kyra's gonna get to the water first!" He teased.

Davina was completely happy to stick close to her parents, happily giggling, fluttering a little and going a little closer to her mother, tail waving to help her keep her balance. "Are you going to play too mama?"

Kahewai chuckled back softly and gave a happy yet defeated sigh. "I think you're right..." She said quietly as she watched her little ones run about. It felt so different this time--she had been a mother before this, but to have them all gathered with their father still by her side. Now that was a feeling she could truly revel in. Looking down to Davina she smiled brightly. "Of course, we will all go and play in the water."

"Even me, momma?" A small voice piped up from Orthos' back. A small Placid head peered out from above the folded webbed wings of her father and looked timidly down at the ground. She was obviously small; paling in comparison even with her Fairy sister. But a runt was to be expected in such a large clutch, Kahewai supposed. She had still thrived regardless. The adult Fairy beamed up at her youngest. "Yes, Chara, even you."

Kalida chirped again and raced closer to the water with Kyra in hot pursuit. It was so hard to run and laugh at the same time! She pumped her tiny legs as fast as they would go--fluttering her butterfly wings to try and earn herself some lift even though she was still months away from learning to fly. She did not even slow as she hit the water--a tiny wadding pool of crystal clear water far enough away from the falls to be left still. She stopped once the water was lapping at her feet and spun around, wriggling her tail in the air behind her playfully. "I beat 'ya!"

Alexio ran after the two females and looked behind him to his brother. Being the only two boys, it was only natural for them to stick together among the gaggle of sisters. "Come on slow poke!" He laughed, taking a few bouncing leaps to try and give him time to catch up. "Kyra's going to catch you and then you'll be it!"

Orthos didn't understand how anyone could have left Kahewai alone with three little hatchlings. Sure, they had their hands full with these rowdy ones, but... Well, doing it alone had to have been hard. He couldn't really imagine it. This was so amazing to have this family together, a clutch of babies to look after, a new home to make their own. This was more than he could have ever imagined for his life.

Shifting his wings a little to let the smallest see as they approached the water he couldn't help his large grin. Chara was the runt, but the other hatchlings seemed to understand, and she wasn't bullied about it. "Of course. We'll all play when we reach the water." He scooped up Davina onto his back to keep her sister company for a few more feet.

Giggling happily as she slid into place next to her smaller sister Davina playfully nuzzled at her wings. "Dada says that the water is wonderful pretty, Chara! Do you wanna swim too?" All of the hatchlings were pretty close, but being the smallest and most delicate of the bunch, they turned out to be the closest.

Kyra was going as fast as she possibly could, wings flapping and trying their hardest to pick her up off of the ground. They were far from learning to fly, but the muscles were still there and the instinct ran deep. "So? Let's get the boys!" She giggled, splashing in the water and as soon as Alexio got there drenching him in the cool liquid.

The biggest of the hatchlings laughed and tried to shift his pace a little, taking longer strides and catching up with all of them; leaping off of the grass and into the water, soaking everyone around them. He laughed, spikes shimmering slightly now that he was covered in water. He shook a little, just happily playing with his siblings. He may be slow... But he was turning to be quite the strong little thing, taking after his papa in many ways.

Kahewai shifted her gaze to watch the larger siblings as they all began to splash around. They would all be fine, even from her meager height she could see the bottom of the pools and they weren't deep enough to engulf any of the hatchlings. Maybe up to their tummies at the deepest. But with four rowdy siblings all splashing in one pool it would do best to find the more frail sisters another pool to splash in...at least until everyone calmed down some and was more attentive to their surroundings.

"This looks like a good spot here, Orthos. Chara, Davina, what do you think?" The pool was adjacent to their siblings and same in many ways only this one still had calm, clear waters and if the babies looked closely enough, a few snail shells and polished rocks.

Chara giggled and nuzzled her sister back, nodding enthusiastically. She was worn out easily, but her sister never wore her out too much to play! "I'm going to swim with you, Davina. Maybe mama will let us ride down her tail and splash." She looked over to Kahewai hopefully. She was brave...but Orthos was a good deal larger than Kahewai. Starting with the smaller tail slide first sounded much more likable to the little Placid.

Alexio didn't stand a chance. As soon as he saw what Kyra was planning he started to backpedal and try to stop himself before it was too late. Instead he skidded into the soft sand and pebbles that surrounded the pool and slid right into her attack; drenched by both her and his own doing. He made theatrical movements as if each splash was a fatal wound, groaning and moaning between giggles. "G-goodbye cruel world!"

Kalida gave a shrill giggle as she gleefully accepted the idea. She watched her sister drench Alexio and moved to wait for Kepheus to come within range...only to see him sailing in over top of them. She shrieked and giggled as the water rose in a miniature tidal wave as the largest hatchling splashed down, now drenched herself. "Hey, that was cheating! She giggled as the pawed the water towards Kepheus playfully. "Everyone get Kepheus!"

Orthos was beaming at his children. He loved to watch them grow and play, and soon they would be learning to fly... Becoming independent, and leaving the nest. He planned on enjoying this time while he could. Hopefully none of them would stray too far, he didn't know if he could bear to have them gone. "I think it is a perfect little pool for our girls. What do you think?" He asked as he softly nosed the littlest onto his muzzle and then Kahewai's back to slide. She would let them, he was sure of that.

"Oooh. Yes! Let's slide." Davina giggled as she fluttered her wings, clinging to their father before clutching at her sister once more. "Ready? One... Two... Three!" She pulled her sister with her down Kahewai's back, the water deep enough to break their fall and splash their parents lightly.

Kyra's laughs turned into sputters as they were all drenched by their brother. She wasn't angry - but she did shake heartily to rid herself of the clinging waters. "Get 'im!" She rallied behind Kalida and tackled her biggest brother, playfully chomping on his baby-soft spikes.

The biggest of the hatchlings looked concerned for a moment for his brother - at least before he was mauled himself. He could only laugh, lashing out playfully with his tail, careful not to hit anyone too hard. "Nooo! Alexio, I'm drowning!" He flopped onto his side in the water. "Brother, avenge me!"

Kahewai would, of course, let her little ones do almost anything if it was both safe and would bring them happiness. This was both of these things, and she was hard pressed to deny little Chara of anything that would let her feel as big and capable as her siblings. "Alright my dears, are you ready?" she asked softly before lowering herself just enough that their smooth scales met in just the right way and sent Chara and Davina down towards the pool.

The runt giggled and squealed as she slid and finally splashed into the shallow pool, giggling loudly once she entered the cool water. "Oh! This water is cool!" She called to her fairy sister. She stood, splashing her claws and her tiny wings in the water to splash around further. Kahewai laughed, leaving her tail to rest in the pool like a great yellow serpent for the girls to climb on and for her own peace of mind that she could always scoop one of them out more quickly that way if needed.

With Kyra on her side, Kalida felt even more empowered to continue her 'attack' on Kepheus. When Kara went in for a more direct approach, Kalida was happy to follow along. Pouncing on her largest brother with a squeal, she playfully nibbled at his tail.

Now free from his own assault, Alexio stood and shook off some of the extra water droplets that clung to his scales. At Kepheus' call, Alexio answered with his own theatrics. "No, my only brother! This will not stand!" Spreading his webbed wings he lowered them into the water and began to gallop along as best he could, carrying with him a small tide which he happily sloshed onto his trio of siblings.

"Take that, you evil sisters! You will not get away with this!"
