Lady In Waiting [Cita and I][Quest]

The backdrop of the prestigious Idalani Falls was hard to turn down--which is why Teuta had chosen the new, upscale restaurant in the first place. It was more than that, a resort some might call it, with rooms available and an itinerary of things to do and places to see complete with fully guided tour times. It was hardly her normal haunt by any means with its more rustic appeal and quiet, romantic atmosphere. But then again, Teuta didn't often find herself on many dates. Not...that she currently found herself on one either.

Her crimson eyes trailed down to the silver and gem inlay watch hanging delicately on her wrist once more. Half an hour...the man was half an hour late without so much as a text to explain himself. She had clearly given him too much credit as she had done with the few she'd allowed close to her before him. Ah, well, the expensive bottle of wine had been ordered and she was in a semi-private room with a gorgeous view of the falls. She even had a room for a few days (for if things went well...or some much needed 'me time' if things did not) so there was no sense in letting a drop go to waste. She'd taken a leave from her job for this trip and this meeting after all.

She reached out a slender arm and took the bottle in her hand to turn it over. Her blue and orange tinted hair was pulled back into a loose bun with a few expertly teased bangs framing her face. The gown was a silken and flowing maxi style dress with a high-waisted belt and a shawl that hung around her neck and over her shoulders. It was a color which some might refer to as 'creamsicle orange' with some cerulean blue designs placed here and there to add texture and flair. Her shoes--hardly up for any tours tonight--were thinly spiked stilettos in a royal shade of blue as well. She looked dressed to impress for whomever it was who had decided not to show on the high-class lady.

Ah well, might as well try not to be too brooding over yet another failed attempt at love.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

"This is a real fancy gig you have here, Rhys." Teuta may recognize the bubbly, familiar voice of the young man who was getting a tour of this restaurant. Argo wasn't lying when he said he had connections - the man at his side in the chef's uniform was one of the biggest rising stars in the culinary world. Everyone knew Rhys the chocolateur, his creations being seen at plenty of four and five star restaurants. Along with the rest of his teigu clan they had been making a large splash on the culinary scene this year.

"We've worked hard for it." Rhys' deeper voice came  little closer, rounding the corner and just within sight of Teuta, if she looked out of the doorway and towards the kitchens. "Heard you've been doing well for yourself."

"Enough to pay the bills and all, that's all I need." Argo stretched out his arms for a moment before coming back down, looking around but not catching Teuta's eye. "It was nice of you to bring me out here though to see the place, I appreciate it. Some time away from the city is just what I needed."

The conversation happening outside her room was for a moment ignored. She wasn't moping. but Teuta was taking a much deserved moment to wallow in the sorrows of her failed love life. She was sought after by many...but apparently she had a poor taste in men. None she chose ever proved of any worth in the end. It was this very train of thought however that narrowed her focus to a more tangible level--a level which allowed her to find some common comfort in one of the voices outside.

Of course Rhys she was familiar with--she'd seen him at a distance on several occasions at various events. His deep, smooth voice was about as rich and silken as the chocolates he crafted and certainly hard to miss. It was the other voice that brought some degree of comfort...and distress. The man who had ruined and then saved her precious one-of-a-kind, custom made coat. She hadn't been certain at first but as the pair walked ever closer she became sure of it. It was Argo.

She stole a glance towards the kitchens just to be sure--confirmation that was swiftly met. Ah yes, she'd been hard pressed to forget that goofy smile and demeanor. Of course he would be out here on his own holiday now of all times. She leaned forward a little and debated just letting the pair move on for her to dine by her lonesome. But then, coat incident aside, his company hadn't been all that bad the first time. And he did seem to know Rhys personally...what would the harm be to try and lure him into a night already ruined? The unopened bottle of wine in her hands gave her the perfect excuse.

"Excuse me," she called out softly as she rose from her chair to peek around the door frame a little more boldly. "Would one of you gentlemen mind to uncork my wine? My second party seems to have gotten lost and I would hate to break a nail opening it myself..." it wasn't her finest or proudest moment despite her cool gaze and otherwise unamused features, but she was getting desperate. She didn't want to eat another meal alone...not on her little holiday.

The pair both paused as the quiet voice and then the woman stepped into their view. Argo's soft smile broke into a wide grin, though he knew better than to reach out to hug Teuta. "I didn't expect you to be here too! It's pretty far from home." She knew that of course, but he couldn't help but point it out. He frowned just a little at the question though, glancing to Rhys. "As for wine I have no clue, I don't have any tools on me." He didn't think she would much appreciate a bottle opened by a pocket knife.

Rhys chuckled deeply as he nodded. "Of course." He took the bottle gently, producing a corkscrew from his apron to delicately open the bottle and let it breathe. "If you grew tired of waiting, perhaps you'd like to dine with Argo? I do owe him a meal." He offered, since they knew one another.

"Ah, I wouldn't want to impose my company if you're waiting for someone else, Teuta." Argo said politely. "I was just going to eat in the kitchen so you could still work, Rhys."

The woman feigned ignorance for a moment until Argo said her name. She widened her eyes in recognition of his face and let a light smile touch her face. "Why Argo, how nice to run into you so far away from the city. Always a pleasure to see a friendly face," She did her best to hide the relief from her face that she hadn't totally driven him off after their first meeting. The first positive thing to happen all evening.

Teuta relented the bottle to Rhys' without hesitation and accepted it back with a gracious nod of her head. She was ever the lady in public even if it made her come off as stuffy and stuck-up. "Oh, that sounds like a lovely idea. We're past the point of being fashionably late and I did order this whole bottle...it'd be a shame to waste it on only my own company." She fixed her crimson gaze onto Argo with a polite smile. "Please, I insist, come and join me."

While the blue-haired man had opened his mouth to offer a rebuttal Rhys gave him a careful nudge in the ribs. "I still have three hours on my shift and it isn't good for you to eat standing. Sit, enjoy a meal with your lady and I'll bring by your meals and dessert." Rhys didn't leave it up for debate, smiling kindly to Teuta before he disappeared from the room and presumably went to make their meals.

Argo sighed - not at Teuta, but the frustration at his friend. He gave her a cheerful smile anyway. "As long as I'm not intruding." Walking back to the table with her he sat opposite, carefully unfolding the napkin and laying it over his lap. He did have manners, after all, even if they were rarely used in such a fancy setting.

"Rhys and I went to school together. He broke his laptop and I saved the hard drive - and his final grades. We've been keeping in touch, he's doing real well out here." It was hard to find some common ground between them, he figured explaining his relationship with the chocolateur would help. "I trust him with our meals, he knows what he's doing."

Teuta seated herself with a flip of her dress to make herself comfortable. She smiled genuinely to Argo when she caught a glimpse of his unfolding the napkin--maybe he wasn't a total lost cause in many of the respects she had given into believing. She leaned in a little and listened to him talk as she poured them both a sampler portion of the wine Rhys had so kindly opened. She could only assume such perfectly aged quality might be a little over his usual drinking experience...but he might still surprise her yet.

"I guess I underestimated just how many connections you really do have," she replied as she loosely replaced the cork and then the entire bottle back into its chilled bath. "I have every confidence in the man--his reputation certainly proceeds him. And, as much as I hate to admit it, you haven't steered me wrong on your judgement yet."

He had saved her coat after all...even though he was the one who had nearly ruined it in the first place. "I couldn't help but overhearing that you are out here on a sort of holiday as well. Purely by invitation on the Chef's part, or had you planned on visiting this part of Evelon?"

With the confident smile he usually wore it was easy to see Argo was fairly happy with the arrangement, even if it wasn't what he had planned. When Teuta wasn't angry about something she was pleasant company after all, and there seemed to be no reason for her to be angry. He jut had to remember some of those fancier manners that Rhys had been teaching him.

"I meet a lot of people with my work, and most people like me." He offered with a soft chuckle. There was little reason not to. He was easy-going and certainly not picky about much. Friends came easily with that sort of attitude.

Nodding slightly he picked up the wine glass and took a careful smell of it before tasting. Wine wasn't exactly his thing, but he wouldn't turn it down. This one was quite good, he had to admit, though he didn't over-do it. "It's a little bit of both I think. There was a plan for me to come and visit Rhys, but the date wasn't certain until he invited me? If that makes sense. He was having some troubles with his ordering system, so I decided to help fix it and make a holiday of the whole thing."

He paused, setting the glass down and smiling to her genuinely. "And you? Just decided a get-away was in order?" She had mentioned a date stiffing her but he wasn't about to bring that up. Anyone who did that had to be an idiot.

Everything sounded like thing she would have expected the young man to say. He did have a particular charm about him even if he wasn't quite at her usual level of company; but for the most part that wasn't a bad thing. It was nice to not have to be quite so stiff and proper all the time...even if she did like to keep up appearances. She'd already let an elbow settle on the table for more than three seconds and that was practically a landmark moment for the prissy fashionista. But he wasn't one to call people out on such petty things and that was truly the refreshing part of his company.

"Ever the loyal friend, that's quite an admirable quality." Though none of her other words had lacked genuine tone, these words seemed to carry them in a heavier dose. He was, after all, taking time out of his day to have an unexpected lunch with her when he was really here to visit a long-time friend. She was hardly a friend--she'd always been so harsh and distant with the man there was hardly a way he might consider them anything besides acquaintances.

"I am here on a planned holiday, yes. I've heard marvelous things about this place and simply had to come see it for myself. The wayward company is a bit of a damper...but that's no reason why I can't enjoy the view with unexpected company instead," she smiled at him and rose her glass of wine ever so slightly in a modest toasting motion before taking a sip herself. The liquid ran down her throat like velvet and she sighed contently as she put the glass down to stop herself from being a lush and guzzling the entire thing. "Despite their romantic background, the falls here are a true splendor of nature. I can see why so many would choose to come here for a couples retreat rather than a simple escape from the hustle and bustle of the city."

Admirable wasn't quite on the list of things Argo had been called before but he liked it. He was indeed a loyal friend, even of those friends weren't close to him. Teuta, while quite harsh in some respects, could prove to be a valuable friend anyway. It wasn't unpleasant to be around her, and he was being treated to a nice meal otherwise.

"Perhaps it was meant to be. I have to be much better company than whoever flaked out on you. I hope you leave them a nasty voicemail." He flashed her a soft grin, hoping to lessen the blow that it must have been to have someone stiff her on a date. Sure, she was harsh, but really? Not meeting someone for a date was pretty low.

Nodding slightly he took another small sip of his wine. It would go down easier the more they had of it, but he didn't want to upset his empty stomach either. "The falls are amazing. I understand why couples come here but it's a nice holiday too. There's plenty to do and tourist-y things everywhere, and seeing the actual falls themselves. It's a nice change of pace from the concrete jungle."

It wasn't much longer before Rhys brought them their dinners with an accompanying side-salad, though the main course was much more appealing. Delicately roasted roosken, the fat having been used to make the skin crispy and golden. Root vegetables had been sliced thin and sauteed with real butter and fresh herbs, adding a pop of color to the plate. Fresh sugar peas rounded out the green portion of the plate, caramelized onions and a dash of thyme adding to the appeal of the entire dish. "Enjoy." He smiled to the both of them. "I'll have desert for you when you're finished." He winked before leaving them to enjoy the dish.

Teuta stifled a laugh with the back of her hand. "Oh, I have much better plans that simple voicemail. We met on the cutting room floor at the magazine studio, so he will find himself the butt of several jokes when I return looking refreshed and relaxed." She didn't rightfully know what she was going to do, but rarely did fiery women let cowardly men get away with their actions seemingly unnoticed. She wouldn't go so far as getting him fired...but she'd make sure her first few days back to work were rather miserable for him if there wasn't some form of acceptable apology made before she left the resort.

She looked to Rhys as the food arrived and fawned over the plating for a moment. "It looks almost too good to eat. Thank you, Chef," she said, carefully taking a fork and turning to her salad first. It was an age old 'beauty' secret--eat a salad prior to a meal to keep from filling up on the fattier things. She turned back to Argo before she gathered her first forkful of greens, smiling gently at him."I believe you're going to be right again, food that looks this heavenly is never bad."
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. Argo couldn't help his own grin at Teuta's idea of revenge. She wasn't one to be trifled with, that was for sure, and he hoped that whoever had left her here knew that they were in for some trouble. "Good. He deserves it for leaving you here unattended. Though, you've found some better company out of his disgrace." He felt confident enough to say that Teuta at least enjoyed his company. Most did, anyway, even if it was only for short doses.

"Thank you Rhys." The plate smelled delicious though he too started on his salad first. The mixed baby lettuces were complimented with a tangy vinaigrette and fresh grated cheese. Not too heavy, a good start to a meal. "I've never had a meal I didn't like cooked by Rhys. He even makes instant noodles better." He shook his head a bit, taking another bite of the salad. "I loved being his roommate. He got to bring home leftovers from class, so we never went without something tasty to eat."

Teuta weighed her response carefully while smiling at her 'better company'. While he may not have been her first choice, he was not her last either. And yes, why not? He was certainly better company than the equally prissy man-child her date probably would have turned out to be. She had predictable tastes that way--and while her choices were often cute they never had been second date material. But here she was, having yet another meal of some sort with this little IT goofball. She supposed that qualified this as a second date.

"Yes, his grave mistake did work out in my favor. Another glass?" she asked as she pulled the bottle free from the ice and refilled her own glass. What the heck, she was miles from anyone she knew and there were no events to draw them here. Why not have a little fun?

"I'm sure it was quite a treat as you went through your college years. I remember plenty of nights filled with greasy pizzas and cheap beer because that's what we could afford with such a high tuition. I'm a little envious." Of course she had never partook in many of those nights, but they had been common place. She's have sooner eaten a houseplant than a greasy slice of pizza topped with heavily processed meats and cheeses.

Though it was obvious that she was thinking about her response Argo didn't mind. He knew he wasn't most girls' ideal date but he didn't care. He was having fun, and so was she if the second glass of wine was anything to go by. Perhaps this was their second date, and farther than he'd gotten with a girl before.

"Please and thank you." He moved his glass a bit closer so she didn't have to reach, again raising it in a toast before taking a sip. "It's his loss, we'll have a wonderful night." Perhaps he could sneak a few pictures if she would let him, let the man stew over the loss. Teuta may be high maintenance, but she was painfully beautiful and truly good to be around.

"It really was." Argo reminisced as he smiled to her, starting in on his proper meal, slicing open the roosten breast to let it cool slightly before he'd take a few bites. "My last year Rhys was already gone and I missed him terribly. I practically lived at the pizza place on campus between working there and my classes."

"Indeed it is," Teuta purred back in agreement with a little twitter of a laugh as she mock-toasted Argo as well. She had been let down by most men in her adult life, so it was nothing new really. But it certainly got old to realize all the sensible, classy gentlemen were either far too old for her tastes or jut rich brats in disguise. Of course she had her own moments of brattiness, she wasn't above admitting that, but she had worked hard for her wealth and standing. She deserved to be a little demanding every now and again. She cut and took delicate bites of her green spread and chicken, savoring every dainty mouthful.

"You worked at your campus pizza place? Seems an odd first job for someone working with technology. My first true job was organizing the scrap fabrics of a designer. It wasn't glamorous or even fun, but it got my foot in the door somewhere." Perhaps it would be a bit hard to believe that the fashionista hadn't simply been born with an expensive fabric spoon in her mouth. She truly had been 'common' for most of her life. The look she gave Argo following the statement seemed to echo the moment of vulnerability--she was letting him into a different layer of herself she didn't often share with just anyone.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count.
