Wishing Upon Fallen Stars [P - Kallile and I]

The trek back to the Falls hadn't been terrible. The winds had died down once she left the coast behind, the waters themselves bringing the temperature to a more comfortable level. Shielded in the observatory however the weather mattered little. Adjusting the telescope from the last person who used it Eden carefully honed in on what she wanted to see.

Naos. On this clear night she could see the star with such clarity it was eerie. A smile played on her lips as she took a few pictures to take back to her mother. Naos himself, and the rest of the constellation, as well as its neighbor, the Hyrda. The familiar stars were inked into her brother's skin, he may appreciate the picture as well.

There had been a thought in the back of her mind, growing for some time now. Perhaps she would like to ink her own skin with her constellation. Something she could share with Atticus. Perhaps even Hexia as well, would she be opposed to such a small tattoo? Finding her an appropriate constellation may be a task. Her sister was very picky.

Everything in the universe is connected.

It may first be gravity together, but it's soon a common love that holds the stars in their orbit. And once every so often, that love becomes eternally binding. Even when the star must end its time in the heavens and come down to the Earth that it once watched evolve.

Naos hung weightlessly in the sky, his form burning brightly in the void of space as his unclogging eyes watched the worlds around him. It had been a century since her light had extinguished from view, which meant that somewhere out there his love was born anew. The universe wasted nothing, every soul was renewed at some point or another. He'd been getting glimpses of her familiar light from a nearby planet...she was coming Awake. By the time he arrived, she'd be ready to meet him again. And hopefully she would remember.

Several times he had felt her eyes on him from light years away and he longed to see her once more. Now those same eyes were on him again and he would contain himself no longer. Tonight he would see her again, and for the first time all at once.

Though his star would, to the Evelon observatory, never truly disappear, it suddenly dimmed as Naos began his descent to Earth. He knew not what awaited him there, he only hoped she was Awake enough to listen.
"I have been hidden, scorned, adored, worshiped, forsaken, coveted and banished more times than I care to count. But the one thing all those experiences cannot steal from me is the gentle soul I was born with, the kind heart I have molded, and the bright ideals for the future that have lit my way through the darkness of the past."

There was a sharp gasp as Eden watched the star dim before her eyes. Pulling back she readjusted the telescope twice, frowning at the scene before her. What had happened? "Naos.... Where did you go?" She asked herself softly, looking through her pictures and then back to the constellation. The pictures showed him just as she remembered, burning brilliantly in the sky. But now?

Another picture was taken before Eden sighed, sitting down and rubbing a hand across her temple. This was all she had wanted to do, why was it so distressing? Stars brightened and dimmed all the time, she could still see Naos, and that was the important part.

Every constellation, though science would say a common gravity held them in orbit, was actually a family. A family of stars built from stars pulled together by forces stronger than themselves and the planets they might circle. The lightyears of space in between was like nothing to the celestial lovers--their light was constantly touching and dancing--playing off one another in what would seem an eternal ballet of light.

The feeling of falling was something new to him, he'd never been anything more than weightless. But to will himself into movement was exhilarating; Naos curled tighter into himself to prepare for the crash landing ahead of him. There was no reasonable way to just appear on Earth if one was still a living star--there was only a crash landing. It was something he'd never done or even really thought about doing. But he could see her familiar light shining, no matter how dim, on that distant planet and he had to find her again. Even if there was no way to bring her home to the sky again, he had to find her...

The bond of stars lasts much longer than any living thing could possibly fathom. Once pulled together, they would be pulled together again and again as their spirits were reborn. For one star who died without the other, this could often be tricky. Few had dared to leave the vast emptiness to prematurely reconnect with their soulmate--they simply waited. The few who dared to love deeper than reason were legend.

With the pictures tucked tightly into her bag Eden ventured another look at the sky. No reason for concern, she could come back tomorrow and watch again. The constellation was supposed to be visible for the next few nights, brighter than ever. Why was there this feeling of dread in the pit of her stomach though? It was unlike anything she'd really ever felt before.

Another gasp was given as she saw a star streaking across the sky. There weren't supposed to be any meteor showers tonight! She had checked to be sure nothing would obstruct her view or her pictures. Hesitating for a few moments she rushed down from the observatory, watching the streak across the sky. Compelled, she followed to where it may land, unsure of what was pulling her, but willing to follow the urge.

In the heavens, stars are kings and queens of their own domains. There are few laws of reason that apply to them and they form bonds and worlds at their will. Coming down to an already created world was a different story. They had to bend to those realities, those laws. They were walking gods among peasants, but they were gracious and kind. Some of the greatest leaders of peaceful movements had, in fact, been stars who could no longer take viewing the sufferings of the human race. But they stayed too long, and they died a mortal death. For a star to survive, they had to return to their nebula every so often to replenish their eternal spirits. Going back was easy. Making an entrance was messy.

The star was rushing to Earth, feeling the changes of gravity on his more gaseous form as he entered the atmosphere. His vision changed as flames circled him, plaguing his guidance. He was close, he could feel his beloved so near. As fate would have it she was near an ocean and Naos could only hope that his aim would hold true despite his lack of sight. He took a moment to wonder what form he might take before focusing all his energy on seeking out the spirit of his soulmate. Become what she was...become what she was...

The star came screaming closer to the beach, filling the sky with brilliant reds and yellows as if the clouds themselves had been set on fire as it passed. The ocean soon caught this fire as well when the star went crashing into the waves of the beach out around the drop off that the humans often stopped at. The waters boiled and were still after several minutes as the luminary fires in the skies died down.

Then, when the lighthouse turned it's light away from the ocean, Eden may notice one bright spot still glowing in fiery tones underneath the water.

At the very edge of the docks made for a wonderful view of what was happening. The meteor lit up the beach with vibrant fire, dancing across the white sands. Staring in amazement she followed as far as she could, watching the molten rock sink beneath the gentle waves. The wind had died down as if it knew something important were happening though it made Eden feel no less exposed as the only one on the beach.

Continuing to stare at the brilliant spot as it sank she fidgeted with her sleeves for a moment, wanting desperately to follow it down. A meteor like that? Perhaps it held something interesting within it. Retrieving it from the water was only a matter of letting it cool enough to grasp.

The feeling of something touching him was a new one, the empty vacuum was replaced with something warm and wet. The foreign feelings cooled his super-heated form as he propelled himself back to the surface. He could feel the molten gases and dusts that made up his form begin to shift into something his soulmate would find more familiar on this world. He wondered what she was to be-- their souls could reincarnate into anything. A simple ant to a giant whale and everything in between.

As he broke the waves on the surface, he was still a glowing-hot mass yet to take form. He was close though--perhaps neck-deep in the water with waves still overtaking his brilliant colors every so often. It was hard to tell the changes taking place with the water so rhythmically distorting the view, but Naos was opening new eyes into the world, scanning for whatever sign of life he happened to be closest to.

Deciding she needed a better view Eden pulled off her socks and shoes, pulling up her pant legs to wade carefully into the water. The molten mass that had landed had warmed it considerably, though she could hardly feel that. It was of little consequence, what she was truly after was what exactly had fallen here. The figure that emerged from the water was striking, almost looking as if the night sky itself had fallen and slowly melded into a familiar shape.

Stopping short of touching range her breath caught for a moment, unsure of this feeling of familiarity. What was going on here?

Though outwardly they still appeared as nebula, Naos' eyes were slowly fixed onto the singular form rushing towards him. Though she took the form of a human, to the star she shone as a sun on Earth. His newly forming heart skipped its first beat and caused the starry creature before her to lurk forward a little at the unfamiliar sensations. Slowly he took a more human form with starscape for skin as he in turn began to move towards this most precious creature before him. He'd always love her, no matter her form, but oh how beautifully she shone as she stood in the flame-hued waters with him. He held out a hand, reaching for her gently. Would she run? Would she remember?

He didn't know her earthly name, he could only hope enough of her memories were still intact that they would remember the name he had once called her in their home in the skies. His skin slowly turned from the radiant red nebula to a more subtle shade of dark olive, his blazing red eyes slowly replacing the stars. Tenatively he parted his newly forming lips, giving them a small test of motion before uttering his first word on Earth; the first word he would ever hear his raspy, unpracticed voice utter.

"Vela..."

Though she should have been frightened that was far from her mood. Even as the form before her jerked forward with the motions of one unfamiliar with their body she moved forward. Without powers of her own she had still never felt exposed, never fearful. She had seen the best and the worst of things, and always depended on her own wit instead of blood or magic. Thus far it had not failed her.

With the changing of his skin and the hand reaching to her she reached back, compelled to stalk forward to gain more contact as their fingers twined in an almost familiar sensation. The warmth he radiated was so familiar, it made her shudder pleasantly as she brought her other hand to rest over his strong jaw, brushing his smooth skin.

The raspy utter of a true name triggered something, even if her mind wouldn't allow her to fully realize it yet. Soft blue eyes watched the blazing ones in front of her with a confused attachment, unwilling to remove her hands as if he would disappear.

"Naos?"

Naos watched this lithe human, entranced by her as she moved towards him. He had only ever seen them from light years away, seeing one up close was something he could only equate to a human seeing the complexity of a star through a microscope for the first time. The touch of her cool skin against his made him draw in a sharp breath and fill his new lungs completely. He didn't really have the need to breathe but the motion of it would be calming to other humans and make him less suspicious. He reached a hand up as the glowing red faded to the end of each finger tip, slowly replaced by the olive skin. He brushed her hair away from her face a little, taking in every detail of her face.

"It has been so many centuries...I was beginning to fear I would never find you again, my love." His words came more assuredly now as his voice adapted quickly. His eyes tamed from the blinding fires of space to a move subtle amaranthine shade as they waded in the ocean and his form made it's final adjustments.

"The heavens haven't been the same since the day you faded away."

Confusion etched across her delicate features, though she did not pull away. Centuries? She was starting to piece things together, but some of it still did not make sense. "I feel like I have known you forever, Naos." She spoke softly as her fingers continued to brush his skin. "I found your star, and I was drawn. You scared me, fading like that."

This wasn't the first time something intensely strange had happened like this, she could accept that this was her star, the brightness in her life. "Why have you come now? Not before? I've felt so lost."

Naos studied the way her face fell and creased as she contemplated his words. There was so much history in her very being that she had yet to remember--too much information to process over again with her short life as a human to this point. He could only imagine how she felt. He reached out and pulled her into his arms--his body still radiating more celestial heat as they stood in the chilled night ocean. "You have known me since the day were were both born, the day we both began burning as stars. We lived and loved in our shared gravity for eons...but even stars must face their time. You faded in your prime, and I've been left in the sky without you, Vela. Your light might yet still shine here, but you've been absent from the sky for centuries."

He tried to speak slowly, tried to offer her the time to let it all sink in and let the memories return to her. "I've been waiting for your soul to reappear and awaken...and now you have. From that first moment you first looked to the sky and saw me, I saw you shining from the face of the earth in return. And I've been preparing to come for you." His arms tightened around her ever so slightly more, and the new body of a man resisted the urge to sweep her off her feet and cradle her. It just felt good to hold her, instead of just share gravity together. To actually touch her, feel her skin and her breath on his chest.

"Tonight, when you looked to the sky again, everything was finally lined perfectly. I've been waiting for this day since I first saw your light reappear, my darling Vela."

It was impossible to not lean into the warmth that was offered. Eden folded herself into his chest, hair whispering across his shoulder as her head laid there. "Vela..." The name was so familiar - and not just because it was the name of a dimmer star near Naos' place in the sky. "There is so much to remember." Too much to comprehend fully right now. Perhaps some thing that she could not, not in this form.

"I have always felt something was missing from me, Naos. My siblings..." She paused, for a moment. "I have always been different from them. They have powers, magical abilities, and yet I have none. My destiny was so much greater." She turned to smile, fingertips dancing gently over his jaw once more, touching his temple before stroking through his hair. Everything was familiar and yet different, it was the oddest feeling she had experienced. Like a much stronger deja vu.

Shivering suddenly as she was pulled closer Eden pulled back, gently pulling his arms with her. "The water is cold... Let me take you  home. Atticus has clothes he's left, they'll fit you." Perhaps be a little snug, Naos was built more muscularly than her lanky brother, but they would suffice.
